Highly accurate calculation of radial spheroidal functions

A new method for calculating the radial spheroidal functions of the first kind is proposed for the arguments that are greater than unity in modulus. A well-known representation of these functions is refined and used for this purpose. The constructs and the software implementation proposed in the paper provide an efficient tool for the calculation of the functions with a desired accuracy in a wide range of parameters.

Explicit bounds for multidimensional linear recurrences with restricted coefficients

This note employs path counting techniques to extend recent results on bounds for odd order linear recurrences to higher dimensions. The results imply optimal zero-free polydisks for multivariable power series with 0, 1 coefficients. Among the applications is a result that states that the optimal zero-free polydisk has radius approximately 1/(v+1), for large dimensions v.     

Linear recurrent subsequences of generalized meta-Fibonacci sequences

In a recent paper, Frank Ruskey asked whether every linear recurrent sequence can occur in some solution of a meta-Fibonacci sequence. In this paper, we consider the natural generalization of meta-Fibonacci recurrences to more than two terms. In this context, we show, using an explicit construction, that any sequence satisfying a linear recurrence with positive coefficients occurs as an evenly-spaced subsequence in some generalized meta-Fibonacci sequence.     

Continued fractions with multiple limits

For integers m2, we study divergent continued fractions whose numerators and denominators in each of the m arithmetic progressions modulo m converge. Special cases give, among other things, an infinite sequence of divergence theorems, the first of which is the classical Stern–Stolz theorem.We give a theorem on a class of Poincaré-type recurrences which shows that they tend to limits when the limits are taken in residue classes and the roots of their characteristic polynomials are distinct roots of unity.We also generalize a curious q-continued fraction of Ramanujan's with three limits to a continued fraction with k distinct limit points, k2. The k limits are evaluated in terms of ratios of certain q-series.Finally, we show how to use Daniel Bernoulli's continued fraction in an elementary way to create analytic continued fractions with m limit points, for any positive integer m2.

Distribution Properties of Multiply-with-Carry Random Number Generators

We study the multiply-with-carry family of generators proposed by Marsaglia as a generalization of previous add-with-carry families. We define for them an infinite state space and focus our attention on the (finite) subset of recurrent states. This subset will, in turn, split into possibly several subgenerators. We discuss the uniformity of the -dimensional distribution of the output of these subgenerators over their full period. In order to improve this uniformity for higher dimensions, we propose a method for finding good parameters in terms of the spectral test. Our results are stated in a general context and are applied to a related complementary multiply-with-carry family of generators.
