A graph G is N2‐locally connected if for every vertex ν in G, the edges not incident with ν but having at least one end adjacent to ν in G induce a connected graph. For a graph A and a positive integer n, let nA denote the union of n disjoint copies of A; similarly, the union of ?0 disjoint copies of A is referred to as ?0A. It is shown that there exist (connected) graphs A and G such that nA is a minor of G for all n??, but ?0A is not a minor of G. This supplements previous examples showing that analogous statements are true if, instead of minors, isomorphic embeddings or topological minors are considered. The construction of A and G is based on the fact that there exist (infinite) graphs G1, G2,… such that Gi is not a minor of Gj for all i ≠ j. In contrast to previous examples concerning isomorphic embeddings and topological minors, the graphs A and G presented here are not locally finite. The following conjecture is suggested: for each locally finite connected graph A and each graph G, if nA is a minor of G for all n ? ?, then ?0A is a minor of G, too. Various definitions of directional derivatives in topological vector spaces are compared. Directional derivatives in the sense of Gâteaux, Fréchet, and Hadamard are singled out from the general framework of -directional differentiability. It is pointed out that, in the case of finite-dimensional spaces and locally Lipschitz mappings, all these concepts of directional differentiability are equivalent. Using the techniques of approximation and factorization of convolution operators we study the problem of irregular sampling of band-limited functions on a locally compact Abelian group G. The results of this paper relate to earlier work by Feichtinger and Gröchenig in a similar way as Kluvánek's work published in 1969 relates to the classical Shannon Sampling Theorem. Generally speaking we claim that reconstruction is possible as long as there is sufficient high sampling density. We consider quasi-isometric mappings of domains in multidimensional Euclidean spaces. We establish that a mapping depends continuously in the sense of the topology of Sobolev classes on its metric tensor to within isometry of the space. In the space of metric tensors we take the topology determined by means of almost everywhere convergence. We show that if the metric tensor of a mapping is continuous then the length of the image of a rectifiable curve is determined by the same formula as in the case of mappings with continuous derivatives. This paper proposes a method for solving optimisation problems involving piecewise quadratic functions. The method provides a solution in a finite number of iterations, and the computational complexity of the proposed method is locally polynomial of the problem dimension, i.e., if the initial point belongs to the sufficiently small neighbourhood of the solution set.
