Over the last 20 years a large number of algorithms has been published to improve the speed and domain of convergence of continued fractions. In this survey we show that these algorithms are strongly related. We study digit expansions with arbitrary integer digits in base q (q integer) and the Fibonacci base such that the sum of the absolute values of the digits is minimal. For the Fibonacci case, we describe a unique minimal expansion and give a greedy algorithm to compute it. Additionally, transducers to calculate minimal expansions from other expansions are given. We investigate the six-dimensional Schrödinger equation for a three-body system with central pair interactions of a more general form than Coulomb interactions. Regular general and special physical solutions of this equation are represented by infinite asymptotic series in integer powers of the distance between two particles and in the sought functions of the other three-body coordinates. Constructing such functions in angular bases composed of spherical and bispherical harmonics or symmetrized Wigner D-functions is reduced to solving simple recursive algebraic equations.
