In this paper, we investigate the evolution of joint invariants under invariant geometric flows using the theory of equivariant moving frames and the induced invariant discrete variational complex. For certain arc length preserving planar curve flows invariant under the special Euclidean group , the special linear group , and the semidirect group , we find that the induced evolution of the discrete curvature satisfies the differential‐difference mKdV, KdV, and Burgers' equations, respectively. These three equations are completely integrable, and we show that a recursion operator can be constructed by precomposing the characteristic operator of the curvature by a certain invariant difference operator. Finally, we derive the constraint for the integrability of the discrete curvature evolution to lift to the evolution of the discrete curve itself.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the existence of the uniformly minimum risk equivariant (UMRE) estimators of parameters in a class of normal linear models, which include the normal variance components model, the growth curve model, the extended growth curve model, and the seemingly unrelated regression equations model, and so on. The necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the existence of UMRE estimators of the estimable linear functions of regression coefficients, the covariance matrixV and (trV)α, where α > 0 is known, in the models under an affine group of transformations for quadratic losses and matrix losses, respectively. Under the (extended) growth curve model and the seemingly unrelated regression equations model, the conclusions given in literature for estimating regression coefficients can be derived by applying the general results in this paper, and the sufficient conditions for non-existence of UMRE estimators ofV and tr(V) are expanded to be necessary and sufficient conditions. In addition, the necessary and sufficient conditions that there exist UMRE estimators of parameters in the variance components model are obtained for the first time.  相似文献

The paper presents a procedure for constructing smooth actions of finite perfect groups on spheres with fixed point sets having certain prescribed properties (Theorem A); in particular, having any prescribed configuration of Chern and Pontryagin numbers (Corollary C). We characterize orbifolds in terms of their sheaves, and show that orbifolds correspond exactly to a specific class of smooth groupoids. As an application, we construct fibered products of orbifolds and prove a change-of-base formula for sheaf cohomology.  相似文献

Block-diagonalization of sparse equivariant discretization matrices is studied. Such matrices typically arise when partial differential equations that evolve in symmetric geometries are discretized via the finite element method or via finite differences. By considering sparse equivariant matrices as equivariant graphs, we identify a condition for when block-diagonalization via a sparse variant of a generalized Fourier transform (GFT) becomes particularly simple and fast. Characterizations for finite element triangulations of a symmetric domain are given, and formulas for assembling the block-diagonalized matrix directly are presented. It is emphasized that the GFT preserves symmetric (Hermitian) properties of an equivariant matrix. By simulating the heat equation at the surface of a sphere discretized by an icosahedral grid, it is demonstrated that the block-diagonalization is beneficial. The gain is significant for a direct method, and modest for an iterative method. A comparison with a block-diagonalization approach based upon the continuous formulation is made. It is found that the sparse GFT method is an appropriate way to discretize the resulting continuous subsystems, since the spectrum and the symmetry are preserved. Let G denote a complex linear algebraic group. In this paper we establish several forms of equivariant Riemann–Roch valid for the category of Gquasiprojective complex varieties. The main application is to the operation of convolution that appears in the construction of modules over convolution algebras, for example the Hecke algebras associated to a complex reductive group as well as in the representation theory of quantum groups. The paper concludes with a discussion of some of these applications. The results in this paper hold mostly at the level of Grothendieck groups. The second part of this paper will discuss the extension to higher Ktheory in detail.  相似文献

Let T be a monad over a category A. Then a homotopy structure for A, defined by a cocylinder P : A A, or path-endofunctor, can be lifted to the category A T of Eilenberg–Moore algebras over T, provided that P is consistent with T in a natural sense, i.e. equipped with a natural transformation : T P P T satisfying some obvious axioms. In this way, homotopy can be lifted from well-known, basic situations to various categories of algebras for instance, from topological spaces to topological semigroups, or spaces over a fixed space (fibrewise homotopy), or actions of a fixed topological group (equivariant homotopy); from categories to strict monoidal categories; from chain complexes to associative chain algebras. The interest is given by the possibility of lifting the homotopy operations (as faces, degeneracy, connections, reversion, interchange, vertical composition, etc.) and their axioms from A to A T , just by verifying the consistency between these operations and : T P P T. When this holds, the structure we obtain on our category of algebras is sufficiently powerful to ensure the main general properties of homotopy.  相似文献
