A generalized Tu formula and Hamiltonian structures of fractional AKNS hierarchy

In this Letter, a generalized Tu formula is firstly presented to construct Hamiltonian structures of fractional soliton equations. The obtained results can be reduced to the classical Hamiltonian hierarchy of AKNS in ordinary calculus.     

On the Continuity of the Generalized Nemytskii Operator on Spaces of Differentiable Functions

We obtain sufficient conditions for the continuity of the general nonlinear superposition operator (generalized Nemytskii operator) acting from the space of differentiable functions on a bounded domain to the Lebesgue space . The values of operators on a function are locally determined by the values of both the function itself and all of its partial derivatives up to order inclusive. In certain particular cases, the sufficient conditions obtained are proved to be necessary as well. The results are illustrated by several examples, and an application to the theory of Sobolev spaces is also given.     

A class of differentiable toral maps which are topologically mixing

We show that on the 2-torus there exists a open set of regular maps such that every map belonging to is topologically mixing but is not Anosov. It was shown by Mañé that this property fails for the class of toral diffeomorphisms, but that the property does hold for the class of diffeomorphisms on the 3-torus . Recently Bonatti and Diaz proved that the second result of Mañé is also true for the class of diffeomorphisms on the -torus ().

     

A geometric method in nonlinear programming

A differential geometric approach to the constrained function maximization problem is presented. The continuous analogue of the Newton-Raphson method due to Branin for solving a system of nonlinear equations is extended to the case where the system is under-determined. The method is combined with the continuous analogue of the gradient-projection method to obtain a constrained maximization method with enforced constraint restoration. Detailed analysis of the global behavior of both methods is provided. It is shown that the conjugate-gradient algorithm can take advantage of the sparse structure of the problem in the computation of a vector field, which constitutes the main computational task in the methods.This is part of a paper issued as Stanford University, Computer Science Department Report No. STAN-CS-77-643 (Ref. 45), which was presented at the Gatlinburg VII Conference, Asilomar, California, 1977. Approximate fixed point sequences and convergence theorems for Lipschitz pseudocontractive maps

Let be a nonempty closed convex subset of a real Banach space and be a Lipschitz pseudocontractive self-map of with . An iterative sequence is constructed for which as . If, in addition, is assumed to be bounded, this conclusion still holds without the requirement that Moreover, if, in addition, has a uniformly Gâteaux differentiable norm and is such that every closed bounded convex subset of has the fixed point property for nonexpansive self-mappings, then the sequence converges strongly to a fixed point of . Our iteration method is of independent interest.

     

A Note on the KAM Theorem for Symplectic Mappings

The mapping version of Pöschel's theory on differentiable foliation structures of invariant tori is presented and the relevant estimates explicitly in terms of the diophantine constant and the nondegeneracy parameters of frequency maps are given. As a direct application of the main result, a generalization of Moser's small twist theorem to high dimensions is given.     

Manifold of nondegenerate affinor fields

We consider the quotient set of the set of nondegenerate affinor fields with respect to the action of the group of nowhere vanishing functions. This set is endowed with a structure of infinite-dimensional Lie group. On this Lie group, we construct an object of linear connection with respect to which all left-invariant vector fields are covariantly constant (the Cartan connection).
