The effect of voice lessons on the clinical and perceptual skills of graduate students in speech-language pathology

Two groups of 10 speech-language pathology graduate students were each given 7 weeks of singing lessons to determine whether voice lessons could have an effect on their clinical and perceptual skills. Pre-, mid-, and posttests to measure various skills were designed and implemented. With use of paired sample statistical testing, statistically significant results were obtained. In addition, the subjective responses of the students show that the lessons were effective in improving pitch perception, breath control, and legato production or easy onset. This study supports efforts to integrate curricula in vocal performance and speech-language pathology.

Extensions of Banach Lie-Poisson spaces

The extension of Banach Lie-Poisson spaces is studied and linked to the extension of a special class of Banach Lie algebras. The case of W∗-algebras is given particular attention. Semidirect products and the extension of the restricted Banach Lie-Poisson space by the Banach Lie-Poisson space of compact operators are given as examples.     

Assignment of chemical shifts in benzohydroxamic acid and structure of its silylated derivatives by 15N enrichment

¹⁵N isotopic enrichment was necessary for the unequivocal assignment of the ¹H NMR lines to the protons in the NH–OH fragment of benzohydroxamic acid, BHXA, C₆H₅CONHOH, in dry dimethyl sulfoxide solutions. The assignment [δ(NH) = 11.21, δ(OH) = 9.01, ¹J(¹⁵N,¹H) = 102.2 Hz, ²J(¹⁵N,¹H) <1.5 Hz], which is opposite to that used by other authors, confirms the assignment extended to BHXA by Brown and co‐workers from the spectra of acetohydroxamic acid. The enrichment allowed also assignment of the ²⁹Si lines in the spectra of disilylated benzohydroxamic acid, (Z)‐tert‐butyldimethylsilyl N‐tert‐butyldimethylsilyloxybenzoimidate (2) and (Z)‐tert‐butyldiphenylsilyl N‐tert‐butyldiphenylsilyloxybenzoimidate (3), and confirmed structure of the monosilylated products, N‐tert‐butyldiphenylsilyloxybenzamide (4) and N‐tert‐butyldiphenylsilyloxy benzoimidic acid (5). L3C宇宙线实验中Z0数据的分析

μ子动量谱的精确测量是L3C宇宙线实验最重要的目标之一.事例重建的好坏是该测量的关键,而能量确定的衰变为双μ子的事例是检验重建程序的最好手段.该数据分析利用在2000年中获取的数据作为样本,筛选出了LEP在2000年4月、5月、8月和9月等Z⁰能量运行期间L3C宇宙线实验数据中记录的Z⁰→μ⁺μ^－事例数据,得到通过重建程序后动量为45GeV的μ子动量分辨率为(5.4?7±0.25)%.

（Ｚ）－３－丁烯基苯酞和它的衍生物广泛地存在于微形科植物，如当归、川芎等，这些植物有些是重要的中药材。（Ｚ）－３－丁烯基－４，５－二羟基苯酞是（Ｚ）－３－丁烯基苯酞的类似物；它对前列腺素Ｆ２α具有抑制作用。本文以３，４－二甲氧基苯甲醇（２）或价廉易得的胡椒醇（６）为起始原料，分别经四步反应顺利地合成了（Ｚ）－３－丁烯基－４，５羟基苯酞（１）。和一步是本方法的关键，即利用杂原子诱导的区域选择性的芳环     

An experimental and theoretical study of vibrational spectra of picolinamide, nicotinamide, and isonicotinamide

The molecular structures and vibrational spectra of the three isomers of pyridinecarboxamide (picolinamide, nicotinamide, isonicotinamide) were calculated with the Density Functional Theory (DFT) method using the B3LYP function and the 6-31++G(d,p), Z2PolX, Z3PolX basis sets. The calculations were performed by using the Gaussian98W packet program set. The total energy distributions (TED) of the vibrational modes of these molecules were calculated by using the Scale 2.0 program and the vibrational modes of the molecules were determined. The Scaled Quantum Mechanical (SQM) method was used in the scaling procedure. In the experimental part of the study, the solid phase FT-IR and Micro Raman spectra of the three isomers of pyridinecarboxamide have been recorded in the range of 4000-650 and 1200-100 cm⁻¹, respectively. The calculated wavenumbers were compared to the corresponding experimental values. As a result, the observed bands of the three isomers of pyridinecarboxamide were assigned with good accuracy.     

Investigation of the phosphinyl analog of α-ketoglutaric acid

It was shown by³¹P and¹³C NMR spectroscopy that methyl(3-carboxy-3-oxopropyl)phosphinic acid (4-methylhydroxyphosphinyl-2-oxobutyric acid) (1) and the amide (2) of the latter exist in keto forms in non-aqueous solutions. In aqueous solutions an equilibrium between the keto,gem-diol, and enol forms has been observed. The proportions of the diol and enol forms increase as the acidity of the media increases. Silylation of acid 1 with hexamethyldisilazane gives the tris(trimethylsilyl) derivative of enol form (3) (Z- andE-isomers).Translated fromIzyestiya Akadetnii Nauk. Stereospecific syntheses of sex pheromones of the californian red scale and white peach scale (Homoptera:Diaspididae) based on 1,4-cis-hydrogenation of dienes

Stereospecific syntheses of (±)-3-methyl-6-isopropenyl-3(Z),9-decadien-1-yl acetate and (±)-3,9-dimethyl-6-isopropenyl-3(Z),9-decadien-1-yl propionate (the Racemoc forms of the pheromones of the scalesAonidiella aurantii andPseudaulascaspis pentagona) with a geometrical purity of the (Z)-trisubstituted double bond not lower than 99 % were performed. The key step in both syntheses was the 1,4-cis-hydrogenation of the corresponding ethyl 3-methyl-6-(1, 1-ethylenedioxyethyl)-2,4,9-decatrienoates catalyzed with chromium carbonyl complexes. These 2,4-dienes were obtained in five conventional steps including the alkylation of ethyl acetoacetate by the appropriate 1-bromo-3-butenes and the Horner-Emmons olefination of the corresponding -branched aldehydes.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk.
