The purpose of this paper is to introduce an algebra of functions on a semitopological semigroup and to study these functions from the point of view of universal semigroup compactification. We show that the corresponding semigroup compactification of this algebra is universal with respect to the property of being a nilpotent group.

It was proved in 1957 by Huber that any complete surface with integrable Gauss curvature is conformally equivalent to a compact surface with a finite number of points removed. Counterexamples show that the curvature assumption must necessarily be strengthened in order to get an analogous conclusion in higher dimensions. We show in this paper that any non compact Riemannian manifold with finite -norm of the Ricci curvature satisfies Huber-type conclusions if either it is a conformal domain with volume growth controlled from above in a compact Riemannian manifold or if it is conformally flat of dimension 4 and a natural Sobolev inequality together with a mild scalar curvature decay assumption hold. A weakly continuous, equicontinuous representation of a semitopological semigroup on a locally convex topological vector space gives rise to a family of operator semigroup compactifications of , one for each invariant subspace of . We consider those invariant subspaces which are maximal with respect to the associated compactification possessing a given property of semigroup compactifications and show that under suitable hypotheses this maximality is preserved under the formation of projective limits, strict inductive limits and tensor products.

Sols composed of dibutyltin dilaureate (DTL) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) were prepared using a mixture of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and acetone as the solvent in order to study the interaction between the oligomeric Sn and Si species. The hydrolysis molar ratio r (r=nH2O/nM (M: Si, Sn or Si+Sn) was 2. The use of an acid or basic catalyst was avoided, as the sols are intended to be used in the formulation of potential stone consolidants. The sols were studied by several spectroscopic techniques including Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS), 29Si and 119Sn NMR, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). According to the spectroscopic results the lauric acid produced by the hydrolysis of DTL modifies the condensation path of the Si species, leading to the formation of two types of oligomeric chains: linear swollen and multiparticle diffusion-limited aggregates, depending on the molar ratio Sn/Si. The 29Si NMR results indicated that the hydrolysis of DTL catalizes the condensation of the Si species, giving as a result higher condensation extents of the Si species in the Sn-Si sols compared to a pure Si sol. Based on the Radial Distribution functions (RDF) and the FTIR results, heterocondensation occurred.  相似文献

We show that an arbitrary infinite graph G can be compactified by its ends plus its critical vertex sets, where a finite set X of vertices of an infinite graph is critical if its deletion leaves some infinitely many components each with neighbourhood precisely equal to X. We further provide a concrete separation system whose ?0‐tangles are precisely the ends plus critical vertex sets. Our tangle compactification is a quotient of Diestel's (denoted by ), and both use tangles to compactify a graph in much the same way as the ends of a locally finite and connected graph compactify it in its Freudenthal compactification. Finally, generalising both Diestel's construction of and our construction of , we show that G can be compactified by every inverse limit of compactifications of the sets of components obtained by deleting a finite set of vertices. Diestel's is the finest such compactification, and our is the coarsest one. Both coincide if and only if all tangles are ends. This answers two questions of Diestel.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove that if there exists an isomorphism T from onto satisfying then K and S are homeomorphic. Here denotes the Schäffer constant of X. Even for the classical cases , and , this result is the X‐valued Banach–Stone theorem via isomorphism with the largest distortion that is known so far, namely . Gas sensing is one of the most promising applications for graphene. Using molecular dynamics simulation method, adsorption isotherm of xenon (Xe) gas on defected and perfect graphene is studied in order to investigate sensing properties of graphene for Xe gas. In this method, first generation of Brenner many-body potential is used to simulate the interaction of carbon–carbon (C) atoms in graphene, and Lennard–Jones two-body potential is used to simulate interaction of Xe–Xe and Xe–C atoms. In the simulated systems, adsorption coverage, radial distribution function, heat of adsorption, binding energy and specific heat capacity at constant volume are calculated for several temperatures between 90 K and 130 K, and various pressures. It was found that both of the defected and perfect graphene could be introduced as very good candidates for adsorption of Xe gas.  相似文献
