Boundary Value Problems for Ordinary Differential Equations with Deviated Arguments

We discuss differential equations with nonlinear boundary conditions. We formulate sufficient conditions under which problems with deviating arguments have quasisolutions or solutions. To obtain the results, we apply the method of monotone iterations.

从教学内容、教学方法、实验实践环节、考核方式等角度,深入分析了《聚合物成型加工》课程的教学现状,并在此基础上指出,目前单纯的理论教学与人才培养目标相悖,缺乏系统性的实验实践教学体系和多样化的课程考核方式。《聚合物成型加工》实践教学体系改革本着培养应用型人才的原则,从实际生产问题和研发前沿问题入手,由原来单纯的课堂教学模式改为课堂教学与实践环节相结合;考核也改为"书面作业+调研报告+项目答辩+实践操作+考试"的综合考核形式;并设计了系统性的创新实践环节,使学生在掌握课程所学基础知识的同时,可以独立的根据制品性能和使用要求,进行合理的聚合物成型物料配制,选择合适的成型加工方法,利用实验室及产学研实践基地的加工条件自己动手将聚合物原材料做成制品。     

Stability and bifurcations analysis of a competition model with piecewise constant arguments

In this paper, we investigate local and global asymptotic stability of a positive equilibrium point of system of differential equations where t ≥ 0, the parameters r₁, k₁, α₁, α₂, r₂, k₂, and d₁ are positive, and [t] denotes the integer part of t ∈ [0, ∞ ). x(t) and y(t) represent population density for related species. Sufficient conditions are obtained for the local and global stability of the positive equilibrium point of the corresponding difference system. We show through numerical simulations that periodic solutions arise through Neimark–Sacker bifurcation. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

On a discretization process of fractional-order Logistic differential equation

In this work we introduce a discretization process to discretize fractional-order differential equations. First of all, we consider the fractional-order Logistic differential equation then, we consider the corresponding fractional-order Logistic differential equation with piecewise constant arguments and we apply the proposed discretization on it. The stability of the fixed points of the resultant dynamical system and the Lyapunov exponent are investigated. Finally, we study some dynamic behavior of the resultant systems such as bifurcation and chaos.     

The quality approach and fundamental research: Working towards a constructive alliance (Part II)

 An appropriate Quality approach in fundamental research should have its roots in the very principles of the "scientific method". Quality and fundamental research could thus reconcile at the condition, on the one hand, that Quality practioners understand and take into account the reality of the "science in action" and, on the other hand, that scientists improve their awareness of the new deal which is being made between science, technology and society as well as of the actual issues of Quality. A modern Quality approach, well adapted to this specific activity, should help both scientists, decision-makers and the public face the issues concerning the role of science in society in the future. In this context, I specify a number of practical proposals concerning, in particular, the adaptation of the requirements of the quality approach to the type of research, the distinction between the three major steps of a research programme (i.e. quality of the objective, the process and the results) and the encouragement of experience feedback. Reference intervals of serum folate and vitamin B12 developed from data of healthy subjects

 In this study the reference intervals for folate and vitamin B₁₂ were estimated according to the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards Approved Guideline C28-A and International Federation of Clinical Chemistry recommendations. The study included 155 women and 124 men between ages 18–40. The health status was confirmed by history, physical examination and a questionnaire. The central 95% reference intervals of serum folate and vitamin B12 for women, determined non-parametrically, were found to be 3.9–18.1 ng/ml and 101–666.7 pg/ml, respectively. The reference values of serum folate and vitamin B12 for men were also found to be 2,5–17.6 ng/ml and 100–699.57 pg/ml, respectively.
