Global existence and time decay of the non-cutoff Boltzmann equation with hard potential

This paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem on the Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff assumption for hard potential in the whole space. When the initial data is a small perturbation of a global Maxwellian, the global existence of solution to this problem is proved in unweighted Sobolev spaces $H^N\left({\mathbb{R}}_{x,v}^6\right)$ with $N\ge 2$. But if we want to obtain the optimal temporal decay estimates, we need to add the velocity weight function, in this case the global existence and the optimal temporal decay estimate of the Boltzmann equation are all established. Meanwhile, we further gain a more accurate energy estimate, which can guarantee the validity of the assumption in Chen et al. (0000).     

Maximal Subrings and Covering Numbers of Finite Semisimple Rings

We classify the maximal subrings of the ring of n×n matrices over a finite field, and show that these subrings may be divided into three types. We also describe all of the maximal subrings of a finite semisimple ring, and categorize them into two classes. As an application of these results, we calculate the covering number of a finite semisimple ring.     

Radial breathing-mode frequency of elastically confined spherical nanoparticles subjected to circumferential magnetic field

Knowledge of the vibrational properties of nanoparticles is of fundamental interest since it is a signature of their morphology, and it can be utilized to characterize their physical properties. In addition, the vibration characteristics of the nanoparticles coupled with surrounding media and subjected to magnetic field are of recent interest. This paper develops an analytical approach to study the radial breathing-mode frequency of elastically confined spherical nanoparticles subjected to magnetic field. Based on Maxwell's equations, the nonlocal differential equation of radial motion is derived in terms of radial displacement and Lorentz's force. Bessel functions are used to obtain a frequency equation. The model is justified by a good agreement between the results given by the present model and available experimental and atomic simulation data. Furthermore, the model is used to elucidate the effect of nanoparticle size, the magnetic field and the stiffness of the elastic medium on the radial breathing-mode frequencies of several nanoparticles. Our results reveal that the effects of the magnetic field and the elastic medium are significant for nanoparticle with small size.

Microwave‐assisted polycondensation of 4‐octylaniline with dibromoarylene

The Pd‐catalyzed polycondensation of 4‐octylaniline with various dibromoarylenes was carried out under microwave heating. Microwave heating led to a decrease in the reaction time and an increase in the molecular weight of the polymers as compared to conventional heating. Microwave heating also allowed the catalyst loading to be reduced to 1 mol %, yielding polymerization results that were comparable to those under conventional heating and 5 mol % catalyst. Investigations regarding field‐effect transistors and organic photovoltaic cells using the obtained poly(arylamine) with azobenzene units revealed that increasing the molecular weight of the polymer led to improved device performance, including hole mobility and power conversion efficiency. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two-dimensional vortex sheets for the nonisentropic Euler equations: Nonlinear stability

We show the short-time existence and nonlinear stability of vortex sheets for the nonisentropic compressible Euler equations in two spatial dimensions, based on the weakly linear stability result of Morando and Trebeschi (2008) [20]. The missing normal derivatives are compensated through the equations of the linearized vorticity and entropy when deriving higher-order energy estimates. The proof of the resolution for this nonlinear problem follows from certain a priori tame estimates on the effective linear problem in the usual Sobolev spaces and a suitable Nash–Moser iteration scheme.
