Generalized quantum measurements with two outcomes are fully characterized by two real parameters, dubbed as sharpness parameter and biasedness parameter and they can be linked with different aspects of the experimental setup. It is known that sharpness parameter characterizes precision of the measurements and decreasing sharpness parameter of the measurements reduces the possibility of probing quantum features like quantum mechanical (QM) violation of local-realism (LR) or macro-realism (MR). Here we investigate the effect of biasedness together with that of sharpness of measurements and find a trade-off between those two parameters in the context of probing QM violations of LR and MR. Interestingly, we also find that the above mentioned trade-off is more robust in the latter case.  相似文献

The subject of BCS-Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) crossover is particularly exciting because of its realization in ultracold atomic Fermi gases and its possible relevance to high temperature superconductors. In this paper we review the body of theoretical work on this subject, which represents a natural extension of the seminal papers by Leggett and by Nozières and Schmitt-Rink (NSR). The former addressed only the ground state, now known as the “BCS-Leggett” wave-function, and the key contributions of the latter pertain to calculations of the superfluid transition temperature Tc. These two papers have given rise to two main and, importantly, distinct, theoretical schools in the BCS-BEC crossover literature. The first of these extends the BCS-Leggett ground state to finite temperature and the second extends the NSR scheme away from Tc both in the superfluid and normal phases. It is now rather widely accepted that these extensions of NSR produce a different ground state than that first introduced by Leggett. This observation provides a central motivation for the present paper which seeks to clarify the distinctions in the two approaches. Our analysis shows how the NSR-based approach views the bosonic contributions more completely but treats the fermions as “quasi-free”. By contrast, the BCS-Leggett based approach treats the fermionic contributions more completely but treats the bosons as “quasi-free”. In a related fashion, the NSR-based schemes approach the crossover between BCS and BEC by starting from the BEC limit and the BCS-Leggett based scheme approaches this crossover by starting from the BCS limit. Ultimately, one would like to combine these two schemes. There are, however, many difficult problems to surmount in any attempt to bridge the gap in the two theory classes. In this paper we review the strengths and weaknesses of both approaches. The flexibility of the BCS-Leggett based approach and its ease of handling make it widely used in T=0 applications, although the NSR-based schemes tend to be widely used at . To reach a full understanding, it is important in the future to invest effort in investigating in more detail the T=0 aspects of NSR-based theory and at the same time the T≠0 aspects of BCS-Leggett theory.  相似文献

We obtain a non-Markovian quantum master equation directly from the quantization of a non-Markovian Fokker–Planck equation describing the Brownian motion of a particle immersed in a generic environment (e.g. a non-thermal fluid). As far as the especial case of a heat bath comprising of quantum harmonic oscillators is concerned, we derive a non-Markovian Caldeira–Leggett master equation on the basis of which we work out the concept of non-equilibrium quantum thermal force exerted by the harmonic heat bath upon the Brownian motion of a free particle. The classical limit (or dequantization process) of this sort of non-equilibrium quantum effect is scrutinized, as well.  相似文献

In this work, momentum-space decoherence using minimum and nonminimum-uncertainty-product (stretched) Gaussian wave packets in the framework of Caldeira–Leggett formalism and under the presence of a linear potential is studied. As a dimensionless measure of decoherence, purity, a quantity appearing in the definition of the linear entropy, is studied taking into account the role of the stretching parameter. Special emphasis is on the open dynamics of the well-known cat states and bosons and fermions compared to distinguishable particles. For the cat state, while the stretching parameter speeds up the decoherence, the external linear potential strength does not affect the decoherence time; only the interference pattern is shifted. Furthermore, the interference pattern is not observed for minimum-uncertainty-product-Gaussian wave packets in the momentum space. Concerning bosons and fermions, the question we have addressed is how the symmetry of the wave functions of indistinguishable particles is manifested in the decoherence process, which is understood here as the loss of being indistinguishable due to the gradual emergence of classical statistics with time. We have observed that the initial bunching and anti-bunching character of bosons and fermions, respectively, in the momentum space are not preserved as a function of the environmental parameters, temperature, and damping constant. However, fermionic distributions are slightly broader than the distinguishable ones and these similar to the bosonic distributions. This general behavior could be interpreted as a residual reminder of the symmetry of the wave functions in the momentum space for this open dynamics.  相似文献

The existence of triple solutions for a second-order nonlocal functional boundary value problem is proved by using a fixed-point theorem on cones in Banach spaces due to Leggett and Williams. The obtained results are new even in the ordinary case for three-point boundary value problems discussed quite recently in [Xiaoming He and Weigao Ge (2002).
