Entropy for frame bundle systems and Grassmann bundle systems induced by a diffeomorphism

A Liao hyperbolic diffeomorphism has equal measure entropy and topological entropy to that of its induced systems on frame bundles and Grassmann bundles. This solves a problem Liao posed in 1996 for Liao hyperbolic diffeomorphisms.     

Mod 2 cohomology of combinatorial Grassmannians

Matroid bundles, introduced by MacPherson, are combinatorial analogues of real vector bundles. This paper sets up the foundations of matroid bundles. It defines a natural transformation from isomorphism classes of real vector bundles to isomorphism classes of matroid bundles. It then gives a transformation from matroid bundles to spherical quasifibrations, by showing that the geometric realization of a matroid bundle is a spherical quasifibration. The poset of oriented matroids of a fixed rank classifies matroid bundles, and the above transformations give a splitting from topology to combinatorics back to topology. A consequence is that the mod 2 cohomology of the poset of rank k oriented matroids (this poset classifies matroid bundles) contains the free polynomial ring on the first k Stiefel-Whitney classes.

η-Invariant and Flat Vector Bundles

Abstract We present an alternate definition of the mod Z component of the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer η invariant associated to (not necessary unitary) flat vector bundles, which identifies explicitly its real and imaginary parts. Sub-bundles of the complexified tangent bundle

We study embeddings of complex vector bundles, especially line bundles, in the complexification of the tangent bundle of a manifold. The aim is to understand implications of properties of interest in partial differential equations.

The James constant, the Jordan-von Neumann constant, weak orthogonality, and fixed points for multivalued mappings

We give some sufficient conditions for the Domínguez-Lorenzo condition in terms of the James constant, the Jordan-von Neumann constant, and the coefficient of weak orthogonality. As a consequence, we obtain fixed point theorems for multivalued nonexpansive mappings.     

Solving large-scale semidefinite programs in parallel

We describe an approach to the parallel and distributed solution of large-scale, block structured semidefinite programs using the spectral bundle method. Various elements of this approach (such as data distribution, an implicitly restarted Lanczos method tailored to handle block diagonal structure, a mixed polyhedral-semidefinite subdifferential model, and other aspects related to parallelism) are combined in an implementation called LAMBDA, which delivers faster solution times than previously possible, and acceptable parallel scalability on sufficiently large problems.
