Let R be an associative ring with unit and let N(R) denote the set of nilpotent elements of R. R is said to be stronglyπ-regular if for each xR, there exist a positive integer n and an element yR such that x n=x n +1 y and xy=yx. R is said to be periodic if for each xR there are integers m,n≥ 1 such that mn and x m=x n. Assume that the idempotents in R are central. It is shown in this paper that R is a strongly π-regular ring if and only if N(R) coincides with the Jacobson radical of R and R/N(R) is regular. Some similar conditions for periodic rings are also obtained. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

In order to use dualization to study Hilbert functions of artinian level algebras we extend the notion of level sequences and cancellable sequences, introduced by Geramita and Lorenzini, to include Hilbert functions of certain artinian modules. As in the case of algebras a level sequence is cancellable, but now by dualization its reverse is also cancellable which gives a new condition on level sequences. We also give a characterization of the cancellable sequences involving Macaulay representations.  相似文献

Let R be a ring and M a right R-module. M is called -cofinitely supplemented if every submodule N of M with M/N finitely generated has a supplement that is a direct summand of M. In this paper various properties of the -cofinitely supplemented modules are given. It is shown that (1) Arbitrary direct sum of -cofinitely supplemented modules is -cofinitely supplemented. (2) A ring R is semiperfect if and only if every free R-module is -cofinitely supplemented. In addition, if M has the summand sum property, then M is -cofinitely supplemented iff every maximal submodule has a supplement that is a direct summand of M.  相似文献

We prove that for certain classes of modules such that direct sums of -covers ( -envelopes) are -covers ( -envelopes), -covering ( -enveloping) homomorphisms are always right (left) minimal. As a particular case we see that over noetherian rings, essential monomorphisms are left minimal. The same type of results are given when direct products of -covers are -covers. Finally we prove that over commutative noetherian rings, any direct product of flat covers of modules of finite length is a flat cover.  相似文献

An R-module M is said to be an extending module if every closed submodule of M is a direct summand. In this paper we introduce and investigate the concept of a type 2 τ-extending module, where τ is a hereditary torsion theory on Mod-R. An R-module M is called type 2 τ-extending if every type 2 τ-closed submodule of M is a direct summand of M. If τ I is the torsion theory on Mod-R corresponding to an idempotent ideal I of R and M is a type 2 τ I -extending R-module, then the question of whether or not M/MI is an extending R/I-module is investigated. In particular, for the Goldie torsion theory τ G we give an example of a module that is type 2 τ G -extending but not extending.  相似文献

The noncommutative Singer-Wermer conjecture states that every linear (possibly unbounded) derivation on a (possibly noncommutative) Banach algebra maps into its Jacobson radical.
