von Neumann’s trace inequality for Hilbert–Schmidt operators

von Neumann’s inequality in matrix theory refers to the fact that the Frobenius scalar product of two matrices is less than or equal to the scalar product of the respective singular values. Moreover, equality can only happen if the two matrices share a joint set of singular vectors, and this latter part is hard to find in the literature. We extend these facts to the separable Hilbert space setting, and provide a self-contained proof of the “latter part”.

Equivalences of comodule categories for coalgebras over rings

In this article we defined and studied quasi-finite comodules, the cohom functors for coalgebras over rings. Linear functors between categories of comodules are also investigated and it is proved that good enough linear functors are nothing but a cotensor functor. Our main result of this work characterizes equivalences between comodule categories generalizing the Morita-Takeuchi theory to coalgebras over rings. Morita-Takeuchi contexts in our setting is defined and investigated, a correspondence between strict Morita-Takeuchi contexts and equivalences of comodule categories over the involved coalgebras is obtained. Finally, we proved that for coalgebras over QF-rings Takeuchi's representation of the cohom functor is also valid.

Higher Order Peak Algebras

Using the theory of noncommutative symmetric functions, we introduce the higher order peak algebras (Sym(N))_N≥1, a sequence of graded Hopf algebras which contain the descent algebra and the usual peak algebra as initial cases (N=1 and N=2). We compute their Hilbert series, introduce and study several combinatorial bases, and establish various algebraic identities related to the multisection of formal power series with noncommutative coefficients. Partially isometric dilations of noncommuting -tuples of operators

Given a row contraction of operators on a Hilbert space and a family of projections on the space that stabilizes the operators, we show there is a unique minimal joint dilation to a row contraction of partial isometries that satisfy natural relations. For a fixed row contraction the set of all dilations forms a partially ordered set with a largest and smallest element. A key technical device in our analysis is a connection with directed graphs. We use a Wold decomposition for partial isometries to describe the models for these dilations, and we discuss how the basic properties of a dilation depend on the row contraction.

     

On topological properties of the Hartman-Mycielski functor

We investigate some topological properties of a normal functorH introduced earlier by Radul which is some functorial compactification of the Hartman-Mycielski construction HM. We prove that the pair (H X, HMY) is homeomorphic to the pair (Q, σ) for each nondegenerated metrizable compactumX and each denseσ-compact subsetY.     

A remark on the Riemann‐Hilbert problem with a vanishing coefficient

This paper concerns the existence of nontrivial solutions of the Riemann‐Hilbert problem with a continuous coefficient whose values belong to two rays in the complex plane.
