Local linear convergence analysis of Primal–Dual splitting methods

In this paper, we study the local linear convergence properties of a versatile class of Primal–Dual splitting methods for minimizing composite non-smooth convex optimization problems. Under the assumption that the non-smooth components of the problem are partly smooth relative to smooth manifolds, we present a unified local convergence analysis framework for these methods. More precisely, in our framework, we first show that (i) the sequences generated by Primal–Dual splitting methods identify a pair of primal and dual smooth manifolds in a finite number of iterations, and then (ii) enter a local linear convergence regime, which is characterized based on the structure of the underlying active smooth manifolds. We also show how our results for Primal–Dual splitting can be specialized to cover existing ones on Forward–Backward splitting and Douglas–Rachford splitting/ADMM (alternating direction methods of multipliers). Moreover, based on these obtained local convergence analysis result, several practical acceleration techniques are discussed. To exemplify the usefulness of the obtained result, we consider several concrete numerical experiments arising from fields including signal/image processing, inverse problems and machine learning. The demonstration not only verifies the local linear convergence behaviour of Primal–Dual splitting methods, but also the insights on how to accelerate them in practice.

The fixed point property for multivalued nonexpansive mappings

We show some properties concerning geometrical constants of Banach spaces which imply the existence of fixed points for multivalued nonexpansive mappings and we study the relationship between these properties.     

Numerical differentiation from a viewpoint of regularization theory

In this paper, we discuss the classical ill-posed problem of numerical differentiation, assuming that the smoothness of the function to be differentiated is unknown. Using recent results on adaptive regularization of general ill-posed problems, we propose new rules for the choice of the stepsize in the finite-difference methods, and for the regularization parameter choice in numerical differentiation regularized by the iterated Tikhonov method. These methods are shown to be effective for the differentiation of noisy functions, and the order-optimal convergence results for them are proved.

     

Solutions in Sobolev spaces of vector refinement equations with a general dilation matrix

In this paper, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of solutions in a Sobolev space W_p^k(ℝ^s) (1≤p≤∞) to a vector refinement equation with a general dilation matrix. The criterion is constructive and can be implemented. Rate of convergence of vector cascade algorithms in a Sobolev space W_p^k(ℝ^s) will be investigated. When the dilation matrix is isotropic, a characterization will be given for the L_p (1≤p≤∞) critical smoothness exponent of a refinable function vector without the assumption of stability on the refinable function vector. As a consequence, we show that if a compactly supported function vector φ∈L_p(ℝ^s) (φ∈C(ℝ^s) when p=∞) satisfies a refinement equation with a finitely supported matrix mask, then all the components of φ must belong to a Lipschitz space Lip(ν,L_p(ℝ^s)) for some ν>0. This paper generalizes the results in R.Q. Jia, K.S. Lau and D.X. Zhou (J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 7 (2001) 143–167) in the univariate setting to the multivariate setting. Weighted approximation of functions on the real line by Bernstein polynomials

The authors give error estimates, a Voronovskaya-type relation, strong converse results and saturation for the weighted approximation of functions on the real line with Freud weights by Bernstein-type operators.     

正系数多项式倒数逼近的点态和整体估计

利用Ditzian-Totik光滑模对于[0,1]上定义的非角连续函数f(x)，且f(x)≠0，文中证明存在正系数多项式Pn(x)及常数C，使得|f9x)-1/Pn(x)|≤Cωψ^λ（f,n^-1/2(ψ(x) 1/√n)^1-λ)。当λ＝1时，上述结果导出已有的整体估计，而当0≤λ＜1时，得到倒数逼近一个新的点态局部估计。     

Approximation by a class of modified Szász-Durrmeyer operators

We modify Szász-Durrmeyer operators by means of three-diagonal generalized matrix which overcomes a difficulty in extending a Berens-Lorentz result to the Szász-Durrmeyer operators for second order of smoothness. The direct and converse theorems for these operators inL _p are also presented by Ditzian-Totik modulus of smoothness.This project is supported by Zhejiang Provincial Foundation of China.
