Tracing back from Charnes et al. [9] many approaches have been proposed to extend the DEA production model to non-convex technologies. The FDH method were introduced by Deprins et al. [13] and it only assumes a free disposal assumption of the technology. This paper, continues further an earlier work by Briec and Horvath [7]. Among other things, a new class of semilattice production technologies is introduced. Duality results as well as computational issues are proposed.  相似文献

The measurement of technical efficiency allows managers and policy makers to enhance existing differentials and potential improvements across a sample of analyzed units. The next step involves relating the obtained efficiency estimates to some external or environmental factors which may influence the production process, affect the performances and explain the efficiency differentials. Recently introduced conditional efficiency measures (,  and ), including conditional FDH, conditional DEA, conditional order-m and conditional order-α, have rapidly developed into a useful tool to explore the impact of exogenous factors on the performance of Decision Making Units in a nonparametric framework. This paper contributes in a twofold fashion. It first extends previous studies by showing that a careful analysis of both full and partial conditional measures allows the disentangling of the impact of environmental factors on the production process in its two components: impact on the attainable set and/or impact on the distribution of the efficiency scores. The authors investigate these interrelationships, both from an individual and a global perspective. Second, this paper examines the impact of environmental factors on the production process in a new two-stage type approach but using conditional measures to avoid the flaws of the traditional two-stage analysis. This novel approach also provides a measure of inefficiency whitened from the main effect of the environmental factors allowing a ranking of units according to their managerial efficiency, even when facing heterogeneous environmental conditions. The paper includes an illustration on simulated samples and a real data set from the banking industry.  相似文献

Linearly interpolated FDH efficiency score for nonconvex frontiers   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This paper addresses the problem of estimating the monotone boundary of a nonconvex set in a full nonparametric and multivariate setup. This is particularly useful in the context of productivity analysis where the efficient frontier is the locus of optimal production scenarios. Then efficiency scores are defined by the distance of a firm from this efficient boundary. In this setup, the free disposal hull (FDH) estimator has been extensively used due to its flexibility and because it allows nonconvex attainable production sets. However, the nonsmoothness and discontinuities of the FDH is a drawback for conducting inference in finite samples. In particular, it is shown that the bootstrap of the FDH has poor performances and so is not useful in practice. Our estimator, the LFDH, is a linearized version of the FDH, obtained by linear interpolation of appropriate FDH-efficient vertices. It offers a continuous, smooth version of the FDH. We provide an algorithm for computing the estimator, and we establish its asymptotic properties. We also provide an easy way to approximate its asymptotic sampling distribution. The latter could offer bias-corrected estimator and confidence intervals of the efficiency scores. In a Monte Carlo study, we show that these approximations work well even in moderate sample sizes and that our LFDH estimator outperforms, both in bias and in MSE, the original FDH estimator.  相似文献

In this work quantum-sized CdS nanocrystals were synthesized using a quaternary water-in-oil microemulsion and immobilized onto gold working electrode by self-assembled monolayers techniques. Formaldehyde dehydrogenase was covalently immobilized onto a protecting membrane, which was stratified on part of the semiconductor nanoparticles modified electrode. The covalent enzyme immobilization has been required to improve the stability of the catalytic oxidation of formaldehyde, which occurs after light stimulation of the semiconductor through the electron/hole recombination. A study about the best electrochemical oxidation potentials under different flow conditions was performed. Preliminary sensor stability and interferences tests were also carried out, for a sensitive and selective detection of formaldehyde. A detection limit of 41 ppb of formaldehyde was calculated and an operational stability of 6 h was achieved under flow conditions by means of this novel amperometric biosensor based on FDH-semiconductor hybrid systems, not requiring NAD+/NADH as charge transfer in the enzymatic reaction.  相似文献

Directional distance functions provide very flexible tools for investigating the performance of Decision Making Units (DMUs). Their flexibility relies on their ability to handle undesirable outputs and to account for non-discretionary inputs and/or outputs by fixing zero values in some elements of the directional vector.  and  indicate how the statistical properties of Farrell–Debreu type of radial efficiency measures can be transferred to directional distances. Moreover, robust versions of these distances are also available, for conditional and unconditional measures. B?din, Daraio, and Simar (2012) have shown how conditional radial distances are useful to investigate the effect of environmental factors on the production process. In this paper we develop the operational aspects for computing conditional and unconditional directional distances and their robust versions, in particular when some of the elements of the directional vector are fixed at zero. After that, we show how the approach of B?din et al. (2012) can be adapted in a directional distance framework, including bandwidth selection and two-stage regression of conditional efficiency scores. Finally, we suggest a procedure, based on bootstrap techniques, for testing the significance of environmental factors on directional efficiency scores. The procedure is illustrated through simulated and real data.  相似文献

This paper deals with the estimation of returns to scale (RTS) in free disposal hull (FDH) models and provides some stability intervals for preserving the RTS classification. It has been shown that the proposed stability intervals can be obtained via a polynomial-time algorithm based on the calculation of certain ratios of inputs and outputs, without solving any mathematical programming problem. The results of the study have been proved via some lemmas and theorems and have been illustrated by numerical examples and a real application.  相似文献

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a method to estimate the relative efficiency of decision-making units (DMUs) performing similar tasks in a production system that consumes multiple inputs to produce multiple outputs. So far, a number of DEA models with interval data have been developed. The CCR model with interval data, the BCC model with interval data and the FDH model with interval data are well known as basic DEA models with interval data. In this study, we suggest a model with interval data called interval generalized DEA (IGDEA) model, which can treat the stated basic DEA models with interval data in a unified way. In addition, by establishing the theoretical properties of the relationships among the IGDEA model and those DEA models with interval data, we prove that the IGDEA model makes it possible to calculate the efficiency of DMUs incorporating various preference structures of decision makers.  相似文献
