Consistent Lyapunov exponent Estimation for one-dimensional dynamical systems

Summary  The author proves the consistency of a nearest neighbor estimator of the Lyapunov exponent for a general class of one-dimensional ergodic dynamical systems. The author shows that this estimator has good practical properties on a set of simulations.

A graph G = (V, E) on n vertices is primitive if there is a positive integer k such that for each pair of vertices u, v of G, there is a walk of length k from u to v. The minimum value of such an integer, k, is the exponent, exp(G), of G. In this paper, we find the minimum number, h(n, k), of edges of a simple graph G on n vertices with exponent k, and we characterize all graphs which have h(n, k) edges when k is 3 or even.

Foundational ways of thinking for understanding the idea of logarithm

This study explored two undergraduate precalculus students’ understandings of the idea of logarithm as they completed conceptually oriented exploratory lessons on exponential and logarithmic functions. The students participated in consecutive, individual teaching experiments that focused on Sparky – an animated mystical saguaro that doubled in height every week. The exponential lesson focused on developing students’ conceptions of growth factors and tupling (e.g., doubling) periods as a foundational understanding for conceptualizing logarithms and logarithmic properties meaningfully. This paper characterizes conceptions that are productive for students to acquire in introductory lessons on exponential and logarithmic growth, and discusses two understandings that were revealed to be foundational for students’ development of productive meanings for exponents, logarithms and logarithmic properties.     

Construction of Exponent matrix compatible for multiple lifting sizes for 5G New Radio

Rate-compatible non binary LDPC codes are used as coding scheme for data transmission in fifth generation new radio. In this paper, we have presented a method for construction of exponent matrix. We first discuss about the types of the cycles and analyze the cycles that are responsible for the degradation of the error performance of the LDPC codes. At low SNR and higher code rates the occurrence of errors will be high, as the parity bits are less at higher code rates. This becomes a challenge while constructing the exponent matrix. In order to fulfill the challenge, we propose a simple and practical algorithm to construct the exponent matrix. The constructed matrix can be used for various code rates and information lengths. The constructed matrix is based on second lifting size set of 5G standard. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is effective and exhibits that the constructed LDPC codes can even perform well at low SNR and at higher code rate.

We study here some linear recurrence relations in the algebra of square matrices. With the aid of the Cayley–Hamilton Theorem, we derive some explicit formulas for Aⁿ (nr) and e^tA for every r×r matrix A, in terms of the coefficients of its characteristic polynomial and matrices A^j, where 0jr−1.
