Vaginal bleeding patterns — the problem and an example data set

Data concerning the vaginal bleeding patterns of women using different forms of fertility regulation are presented. The data were collected in the form of diaries which were completed by the women themselves by recording the presence or absence of vaginal bleeding on a daily basis. The object of the paper is to invite suggestions for suitable methods of presentation and analysis of such data so that the results of studies on methods of fertility regulation can be better summarized and interpreted.

关于命题逻辑系统中相似度性质的修正

通过对计量逻辑的再研究,发现对计量逻辑中公式间相似度,逻辑距离的理解方面存在着一些偏差,并且造成这些偏差存在的根源是对公式间相似度性质理解的偏差.本文的目标是通过构造实例说明这些偏差的存在性并对这些偏差给予修正.本文的结果将有助于对计量逻辑中公式间的相似度,逻辑距离等概念更加深入,正确的理解.

The generation and use of graphical examples in calculus classrooms: The case of the mean value theorem

We analyzed video data of five instructors teaching the Mean Value Theorem (MVT) in a first-semester calculus course as part of a broader project investigating how active learning strategies were being implemented and supported in calculus courses. We sought to identify the ways examples of functions that did or did not satisfy the conclusion of MVT were generated and used in instruction. Using thematic analysis, we identified four themes that serve as characterizations of examples, which then allowed for the analysis of trends and patterns. We propose that attention to the generation and use of examples serves as one lens for considering how students can be engaged in the mathematical activity of the classroom, with implications for learning. This work contributes to an evolving notion of what is entailed in students’ active learning of mathematics and the role of the instructor in facilitating active learning opportunities.

The structuring of personal example spaces

This paper elaborates the notion of a personal example space as the set of mathematical objects and construction techniques that a learner has access to as examples of a concept while working on a given task. This is different from the conventional space of examples that is represented by the worked examples and exercises in textbooks. We refer to three studies spanning the age range of learners, from school-age learners to pre-service teachers learning maths and professional mathematicians. Their constructions of examples are used as evidence of their personal example spaces. From these, we identify characteristics of such spaces that provide insight into learning mathematics. This perspective informs teaching by giving access to how personal knowledge is structured and what might enhance that structure.     

大学化学课程德育的设计与实践

Based on the teaching practice of chemistry courses in university and guided by the training specifications of talents, this paper carried out the ideology of moral education in the course and designed the moral education contents. Specifically, there were five aspects, including the patriotism sentiment, the collaborative spirit, the social responsibility, the innovation and entrepreneurship, the logical thinking and dialectical thinking. Moreover, this paper also putted forward the implementation strategy with combination of the teaching and the self-education.     

Effect of example weights on prediction of protein-protein interactions

Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) prediction is an important issue in biology. Recently many computational methods have been proposed to determine PPIs. However, there is no golden standard dataset for these methods now. Furthermore, there exists different quality among training examples and the quality is always ignored by the current methods. In the condition of low-quality examples, the system should tolerate the data noise. Example weighting strategy is used in this paper to build a robust system and solve the problem of data noise. Training examples are investigated and a new example selecting/using strategy is proposed. Training example weighting method based on confidence is proposed. Different weight setting strategies are discussed and the corresponding results are given in the experiment. A new model integrating example weighting strategy, attraction-repulsion (AR) weight model, is proposed. Experimental results on Saccharomyces cerevisiae demonstrate that the new model outperforms the original AR model in the ROC score measure by over 8%. Furthermore, the example weighting strategy is applied to another domain-based PPIs prediction method, maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) method, and the modified MLE method obtains better performance than the original MLE method. At same time, our examples weighting strategy can be applied to any other training example based PPIs prediction methods.
