The use of Disc Electrophoresis to Detect the Adulteration of Beef By Other Animal Meats

Abstract

Disc electrophoresic can be used to determine if uncookee beef and beef products have Seen adulterated with meat from horses, hogs, deer, and buffalo.     

Synthesis,characterization and antimicrobial activities of copper complexes derived from 4-aminoantipyrine derivatives

Cu(II) complexes have been synthesized from the Schiff base ligands derived from furfurlyidene-4-aminoantipyrine and aniline (L¹)/p-nitroaniline (L²)/p-hydroxyaniline (L³). They were characterized using analytical and spectral techniques. All the Cu(II) complexes exhibit square planar geometry. The X-band ESR spectra of the copper complexes in DMSO solution at 300 and 77 K were recorded and their salient features are reported. The in vitro biological screening effects of the investigated compounds were tested against the bacterial species, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and fungal species, Aspergillus niger, Rhizopus stolonifer, Aspergillus flavus, Rhizoctonia bataicola and Candida albicans by serial dilution method. A comparative study of inhibition values of the Schiff base ligands and their complexes indicate that the complexes exhibit higher antimicrobial activity than the Schiff base ligands. Superoxide dismutase and reducing power activities of the copper complexes have also been studied. Depending on the molecular structure, the [CuL²(OAc)₂] complex possess promising SOD mimetic activities.

The three-dimension model for the rock-breaking mechanism of disc cutter and analysis of rock-breaking forces

To study the rock deformation with threedimensional model under rolling forces of disc cutter,by carrying out the circular-grooving test with disc cutter rollingaround on the rock,the rock mechanical behavior underrolling disc cutter is studied,the mechanical model of disccutter rolling around the groove is established,and the theory of single-point and double-angle variables is proposed.Based on this theory,the physics equations and geometricequations of rock mechanical behavior under disc cutters oftunnel boring machine(TBM) are studied,and then the balance equations of interactive forces between disc cutter androck are established.Accordingly,formulas about normalforce,rolling force and side force of a disc cutter are derived,and their validity is studied by tests.Therefore,a newmethod and theory is proposed to study rock-breaking mechanism of disc cutters.

A new compact disc format of high density array synthesis applied to peptide nucleic acids and in situ MALDI analysis

A fully automated synthesizer was constructed and designed to perform high speed miniaturized syntheses of compound libraries using the SPOT technique. Utilizing magnetically controlled drop-on-demand ink jet nozzles, an r/phi array format of 2500 spots can be simultaneously dispensed from up to 24 separate reagent valves onto a rotating disc as the solid phase in less than three minutes. In addition, a complete wash station is on board allowing for fully programmable combinatorial syntheses without manual attention. A new carbon black/polypropylene composite solid phase disc was developed and tested for its functionalisation/loading, spot detection, durability and MALDI-TOF target capabilities. The carbon black/polypropylene composite was then successfully employed jointly as the solid phase in the syntheses of short peptide and PNA oligomers and as the target probe holder for MALDI-TOF measurement without transfer of the material. Several protocols for PNA syntheses were also investigated and an optimised PNA methodology for the carbon black/polypropylene composite is reported.

Uniform and refinable grids on elliptic domains and on some surfaces of revolution

We construct a bijection from R² to R², which maps rectangles centered at the origin O onto ellipses centered at O, and preserves area. This bijection allows us to construct uniform and refinable grids on elliptic domains. Then, we combine a particular case of this bijection (i.e. that bijection that maps squares into circles) with another area preserving projection from R² to a surface of revolution around Oz. This yields uniform and refinable grids on this surface of revolution. The lines of these grids are situated in horizontal planes, if they are images of squares centered at O. We consider the particular case of the hemisphere and show how the northern hemisphere of the Earth is projected onto a square. Thus, our equiareal maps can be useful for constructing geographical maps of one hemisphere of the Earth onto rectangles.
