A graph-theoretic approach to modeling metabolic pathways

Summary The metabolic pathways of medazepam, oxazepam, and diazepam were modeled using graph-theoretic transforms which are incorporable into computer-assisted metabolic analysis programs. The information, represented in the form of a graph-theoretic transform kit, which was obtained from these pathways was then used to predict the metabolites of other benzodiazepine compounds. The transform kits gave statistically significant predictions with respect to a statistical method for evaluating the performance of the transform kits.     

Some properties of the Owen T-function

Some new relations for the Owen function are obtained including differentiation and integration formulas, integral representations and series. Applications of the Owen function in probability theory and in communication theory are shown.     

Mei symmetry and Mei conserved quantity of Appell equations for a variable mass holonomic system

Mei symmetry and Mei conserved quantity of Appell equations for a variable mass holonomic system are investigated. Appell equations and differential equations of motion for a variable mass holonomic system are established. A new expression of the total first derivative of the function with respect of time t along the systematic motional track curve, and the definition and the criterion of Mei symmetry for Appell equations under the infinitesimal transformations of groups are given. The expressions of the structural equation and Mei conserved quantity for Mei symmetry in Appell are obtained. An example is given to illustrate the application of the results.

Families of multisums as mock theta functions

In view of the Bailey lemma and the relations between Hecke-type sums and Appell–Lerch sums given by Hickerson and Mortenson, we find that many Bailey pairs given by Slater can be used to deduce mock theta functions. Therefore, by constructing generalized Bailey pairs with more parameters, we derive some new families of mock theta functions. Meanwhile, some identities between new mock theta functions and classical ones are established. Furthermore, based on the proofs of the main theorems, many q-hypergeometric transformations are obtained.     

Convergence of Appell Polynomials of Long Range Dependent Moving Averages in Martingale Differences

We study limit distribution of partial sums S_N,k(t) = _{s = 1} ^{[N t]} A_k(X_s) of Appell polynomials of the long-range dependent moving average process X_t> = _{i t} b_{t - i i}, where {_i} is a strictly stationary and weakly dependent martingale difference sequence, and b_i i^{d - 1} (0 < d < 1/2). We show that if k(1-2 d)<1, then suitably normalized partial sums S_N,k(t) converge in distribution to the kth order Hermite process. This result generalizes the corresponding results of Surgailis, and Avram and Taqqu obtained in the case of the i.i.d. sequence { _i}.     

The relation of the d-orthogonal polynomials to the Appell polynomials

We are dealing with the concept of d-dimensional orthogonal (abbreviated d-orthogonal) polynomials, that is to say polynomials verifying one standard recurrence relation of order d + 1. Among the d-orthogonal polynomials one singles out the natural generalizations of certain classical orthogonal polynomials. In particular, we are concerned, in the present paper, with the solution of the following problem (P): Find all polynomial sequences which are at the same time Appell polynomials and d-orthogonal. The resulting polynomials are a natural extension of the Hermite polynomials.

A sequence of these polynomials is obtained. All the elements of its (d + 1)-order recurrence are explicitly determined. A generating function, a (d + 1)-order differential equation satisfied by each polynomial and a characterization of this sequence through a vectorial functional equation are also given. Among such polynomials one singles out the d-symmetrical ones (Definition 1.7) which are the d-orthogonal polynomials analogous to the Hermite classical ones. When d = 1 (ordinary orthogonality), we meet again the classical orthogonal polynomials of Hermite.     

On singular univariate specializations of bivariate hypergeometric functions

It is tempting to evaluate F₂(x,1) and similar univariate specializations of Appell's functions by evaluating the apparent power series at x=0 straight away using the Gauss formula for ₂F₁(1). But this kind of naive evaluation can lead to errors as the ₂F₁(1) coefficients might eventually diverge; then the actual power series at x=0 might involve branching terms. This paper demonstrates these complications by concrete examples.     

Hermite-based Appell polynomials: Properties and applications

By employing certain operational methods, the authors introduce Hermite-based Appell polynomials. Some properties of Hermite-Appell polynomials are considered, which proved to be useful for the derivation of identities involving these polynomials. The possibility of extending this technique to introduce Hermite-based Sheffer polynomials (for example, Hermite-Laguerre and Hermite-Sister Celine's polynomials) is also investigated.
