This article describes a comprehensive literature review of liquid entrainment in horizontal pipes with vertical-up branches. Deficiencies in the available data and correlations were identified. The Air–water Test Loop for Advanced Thermal–hydraulic Studies (ATLATS) was constructed and entrainment onset and steady-state data were collected for a wide range of flow conditions. Using new insights gained from experimental testing, the authors developed a model for predicting the onset of entrainment and steady-state entrainment rate. Previously published correlations, along with the new model, are compared against all available data. The new model shows very good agreement with the onset data, but is not very good at predicting branch quality at high liquid flow rates.  相似文献

Emerging pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) like sulfamethoxazole (SMX), metronidazole (MNZ) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) are biopersistent and toxic to the environment and public health. In this study, UV/TiO2 photodegradation was applied in the degradation of SMX, MNZ and CIP individually and in a mixture. For a 5 mg/L SMX solution, about 97% of SMX was degraded within 360 min, which was reduced to 80% for 80 mg/L of SMX solution at the same TiO2 dosage and photodegradation time. The maximum removals of MNZ and CIP as individual components were 100% and 89%, respectively at 600 min of photodegradation reaction time. For binary mixtures, the highest removal (100%) was achieved for MNZ and CIP ([MNZ] = [CIP] = 40 mg/L) mixture at 120 min whereas the degradations were 97% and 96% for SMX and MNZ, and SMX and CIP binary mixtures, respectively, even after 600 min of experimental time at the same concentrations. For tertiary mixture, the maximum degradation 99% was observed for (SMX = CIP] = 20 mg/L and [MNZ] = [40 mg/L) at 600 min. The observed reaction rate was 0.01085 min?1 when SMX concentration was 5 mg/L, which decreased to 0.00501 min?1 for SMX concentration of 80 mg/L, indicating decreasing of reaction rate at higher concentration. The results indicate that the UV/TiO2 process is promising to apply for the treatment of pharmaceutical wastewaters.  相似文献

A series of ω-perfluorooctyl-alkyl polyacrylates has been prepared and analysed. The odd–even effect, already observed in the case of liquid crystalline polymers has been exhibited for perfluorinated ones. Values of the contact angles to advanced (θa), with withdrawal (θr), as well as the contact angle hysteresis (Δθ) of various ω-perfluorooctyl-alkyl polyacrylates in water at 20 °C are described. Contrary to the advancing contact angle which is almost independent of spacer length, the receding one varies strongly with it.  相似文献

Selected prominent problems in the analysis of advanced ceramic materials are surveyed. The importance of reliability of results is discussed in the field of elemental trace- and microanalysis in view of its interaction with economy, power of detection, local resolution and speciation selectivity. Particular problems in the analysis of major constituents, trace components and microlocal distributions are based on the striking propertics of ceramics; they are exemplified. Analytical assistance must start from the beginning of the production processing, in the preparation of the powdered base materials. Determination of the stoichiometry requires high accuracy and differentiation of chemical species in bulk and surface analysis of ceramic base powders. Element trace determination by direct instrumental methods requires standard reference materials for calibration; these are currently inavailable in a sufficient variety. For optimum reliability and power of detection, element traces must be prepared in isolated form in a small excitation volume for analysis. A review on the state-of-the-art of wet-chemical combined procedures is presented. Decomposition position procedures are emphasized, due to their risk of contributing severe systematic error. Combustion in elementary fluorine is presented for decomposition of refractory materials. The performance of some direct procedures is discussed. Very efficient methods are available for element trace determinations in ceramic materials, offering high detection power. Several approaches for high-resolution local microanalysis in non-conductive ceramic materials are identified as the most promising development in the analysis of sintered compact ceramic products and devices.  相似文献

Intermolecular association and ion-pair formation, respectively, between a cationic chiral selector, viz. o-9-(tert-butylcarbamoyl) quinine (CQN), and the both enantiomers of anionic N-(3,5-dinitrobenzoyl)leucine, (R)-DNB-Leu and (S)-DNB-Leu, were investigated by affinity capillary electrophoresis (ACE). Thus, binding constants of the both diastereomeric ion-pairs, (R) and (S)-DNB-Leu/CQN associates, were determined by different experimental setups and correction of nonlinear effects. A reciprocal setup was employed for the high-affinity (S)-enantiomer, and the experimental mobility data obtained for CQN at variable (S)-DNB-Leu concentrations in the background electrolyte were linearized and evaluated by advanced statistical model. A binding constant of KS=125.1 l mol−1 was afforded. The constant for the (R)-enantiomer, which is outside the range suitable for direct affinity CE, was obtained from indirect affinity CE utilizing the separation of the DNB-Leu racemate at a single appropriate CQN concentration in the BGE (resolution method) taking advantage of the known constant for the (S)-enantiomer yielding a binding constant of KR=2.51 l mol−1. Thereby, the so-called “constant time method” was adopted for the required precise measurement of the effective mobilities of the both enantiomers. A combined approach of reciprocal affinity CE with racemic DNB-Leu as additive and the resolution method confirmed the results. The resulting constants evidence excellent enantioselectivity of the tert-butylcarbamoyl derivative of the cinchona alkaloid quinine as chiral selector for N-(3,5-dinitrobenzoyl) derivatives of amino acids.  相似文献
