Ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) measurement combined with unsupervised neurocomputing is considered as a new potential method for on-line monitoring of fermentation and other processes producing volatile compounds that involve micro-organisms. This was demonstrated in a model system in which a strain of brewer’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) was cultivated in a bench-top fermenter. Five phases of yeast growth could be detected from measurements of the exhaust gases from the fermenter, as indicated by the changes in ion mobility spectra analysed by computational methods.The data were first processed using the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) algorithm, the results showing that the phases of fermentation can be detected and identified. The cultivations were also shown by Sammon’s mapping to be comparable to a certain level of accuracy. Contaminated cultivation could be detected by its distinctive ion mobility spectrometry profile.  相似文献

Previous studies on mathematical characterization of proteomics maps by sets of map invariants were based on the construction of a set of distance-related matrices obtained by matrix multiplication of a single matrix by itself. Here we consider an alternative characterization of proteomics maps based on a set of matrices characterizing local features of an embedded zigzag curve over the map. It is shown that novel invariants can well characterize proteomics maps. Advantages of the novel approach are discussed.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of Hopf-flip bifurcation of high dimensional maps. Using the center manifold theorem, we obtain a three dimensional reduced map through the projection technique. The reduced map is further transformed into its normal form whose coefficients are determined by that of the original system. The dynamics of the map near the Hopf-flip bifurcation point is approximated by a so called ‘‘time-2τ2 map’’ of a planar autonomous differential equation. It is shown that high dimensional maps may result in cycles of period two, tori T1 (Hopf invariant circles), tori 2T1 and tori 2T2 depending both on how the critical eigenvalues pass the unit circle and on the signs of resonant terms’ coefficients. A two-degree-of-freedom vibro-impact system is given as an example to show how the procedure of this paper works. It reveals that through Hopf-flip bifurcations, periodic motions may lead directly to different types of motion, such as subharmonic motions, quasi-periodic motions, motions on high dimensional tori and even to chaotic motions depending both on change in direction of the parameter vector and on the nonlinear terms of the first three orders.The project supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (10472096)The English text was polished by Ron Marshall.  相似文献

Flattened representations are a useful approach to represent the convoluted complex surface of the neocortex of primates and other large-brained mammals. In this study, we compared the flattened representation of neocortical areas obtained from the recently published MRI and histology atlas of the rhesus monkey brain (Saleem KS, Logothetis NK. A combined MRI and histology atlas of the rhesus monkey brain in stereotaxic coordinates. London: Academic; 2007) with other previously published maps. Our results confirm that flat map representations are advantageous due to their ease of use and that current flat maps are well comparable to each other. Some differences arise due to different distinguishing criteria and here too flat maps can help to reveal them.  相似文献

Biharmonic maps are generalizations of harmonic maps. A well-known result on harmonic maps between surfaces shows that there exists no harmonic map from a torus into a sphere(whatever the metrics chosen) in the homotopy class of maps of Brower degree±1. It would be interesting to know if there exists any biharmonic map in that homotopy class of maps. The authors obtain some classifications on biharmonic maps from a torus into a sphere, where the torus is provided with a flat or a class of non-flat metrics whilst the sphere is provided with the standard metric. The results in this paper show that there exists no proper biharmonic maps of degree±1 in a large family of maps from a torus into a sphere.  相似文献

A k-orbit map is a map with k flag-orbits under the action of its automorphism group. We give a basic theory of k-orbit maps and classify them up to k?4. “Hurwitz-like” upper bounds for the cardinality of the automorphism groups of 2-orbit and 3-orbit maps on surfaces are given. Furthermore, we consider effects of operations like medial and truncation on k-orbit maps and use them in classifying 2-orbit and 3-orbit maps on surfaces of small genus.  相似文献
