In this Note we study the effects of the temperature modulation, applied at the horizontal boundaries, on the onset of convection of a horizontal liquid Maxwellian layer. It is assumed that the temperature imposed features a steady component and a time dependent component. To analyse the effect of the temperature modulation, the study is restricted to a linear stability analysis. Thus the Floquet theory and a technique of converting a boundary value problem to an initial value problem are used to solve the system of equations corresponding to the onset of convection. Results obtained may be used to characterize the influence of modulation effects and that of the viscoelastic nature of liquid on the critical Rayleigh number. To cite this article: B. We consider a fully discrete scheme for a quasistatic frictional contact problem between a viscoelastic body and an obstacle. The contact is bilateral, the friction is modeled with Tresca's law and the behavior of the material is described with a viscoelastic constitutive law with long memory. We state an existence and uniqueness result for the discrete solution, followed by error estimate results. Then, we present numerical simulations in the study of a two-dimensional test example. We consider a quasistatic problem of frictional contact between a viscoelastic body and a moving foundation. The contact is with wear and is modeled by normal compliance and a law of dry friction. The novelty in the model is that it allows for the diffusion of the wear debris over the potential contact surface. Such kind of phenomena arise in orthopaedic biomechanics and influence the properties of joint prosthesis. We derive a weak formulation of the problem and state that, under a smallness assumption on the problem data, there exists a unique weak solution for the model. In this paper, we propose a new explicit analytical formula of the critical buckling load of double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNT) under axial compression. This formula takes into account van der Waals interactions between adjacent tubes and the effect of terms involving tube radii differences generally neglected in the derived expressions of the critical buckling load published in the literature. The elastic multiple Donnell shells continuum approach is employed for modelling the multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The validation of the proposed formula is made by comparison with a numerical solution. The influence of the neglected terms is also studied.  相似文献

Transient growth of energy is shown to be possible in the lateral dynamics of passenger cars. This mechanism might be generated during one vehicle overtaking another. Starting from a simple linearized quasi-steady model, which couples the lateral displacement and the yaw angle of the vehicle, the transient growth appears when an initial condition in the yawing rate is applied. We present a model describing the surface changes of an elastic preconstrained material which is valid for large deformations. The surface profile is described by a parametric curve that allows the emergence of infinite tangents and back return point as the surface evolves. The proposed model covers a number of classic models: Spencer (1994), Yang (1993), Kassner (1994), Chiu (1994). The modeling of the linear free vibration of a sandwich structure including viscoelastic layers yields a complex nonlinear eigenvalue problem. In this paper, the sensitivity of eigensolutions is computed using a homotopy-based asymptotic numerical method, then a first-order automatic differentiation. The generality of the proposed method enables us to consider any analytical frequency-dependent viscoelastic law in the modeling and the sensitivity computation. Its application potential is demonstrated by computing the sensitivity of eigenmodes, eigenfrequencies and modal loss factors of sandwich beams and plates to various perturbations.  相似文献

A brief overview is given of specific features that can (or cannot) appear in the dispersion spectra of traction-free elastic homogeneous plates due to anisotropy. Its effect on the overall spectral configuration and on the short and long wave trends is illuminated with a link to anisotropic traits of bulk and surface waves. The present work concerns a method of continuous approximation by block of a continuous function; a method of approximation combining the Approach in Stages with the finite domains Least Squares. An identification procedure by sub-domains: basic generating functions are determined step-by-step permitting their weighting effects to be felt. This procedure allows one to be in control of the signs and to some extent of the optimal values of the parameters estimated, and consequently it provides a unique set of solutions that should represent the real physical parameters. Resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (also known as resonant X-ray Raman spectroscopy when only valence and conduction states are involved in the final state excitation) has developed into a major tool for understanding the electronic properties of complex materials. Presently it provides access to electron excitations in the few hundred meV range with element and bulk selectivity. Recent progress in X-ray optics and synchrotron radiation engineering have opened up new perspectives for this powerful technique to improve resolving power and efficiency.
