Transfer matrix approach of vibration isolation analysis of periodic composite structure

The transmission properties of elastic waves propagating in a three-dimensional composite structure embedded periodically with spherical inclusions are analyzed by the transfer matrix method in this paper. Firstly, the periodic composite structures are divided into many layers, the transfer matrix of monolayer structure is deduced by the wave equations, and the transfer matrix of the entire structure is obtained in the case of boundary conditions of displacement and stress continuity between layers. Then, the effective impedance of the structure is analyzed to calculate its reflectivity and transmissivity of vibration isolation. Finally, numerical simulation is carried out; the experiment results validate the accuracy and feasibility of the method adopted in the paper and some useful conclusions are obtained. Apparatus for High-Resolution Solid Hydrogen Matrix Isolation Spectroscopy and Its Application

Apparatus integrating a Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer and a mid-infrared difference frequency generation (DFG) laser spectrometer was built for the study of the matrix isolation spectrum in solid molecular hydrogen. A 3-cm-long molecular hydrogen crystal was grown in a liquid-helium Dewar, and its infrared absorption spectrum in the 1-5 μm region was recorded to test the system. The W₀(0) (ν=0←0, J=6←0) line around 2410 cm⁻¹ of solid hydrogen was investigated with the DFG laser spectroscopy. High-resolution matrix isolation spectrum of CO² co-deposited with hydrogen on a BaF₂ cold plate at liquid-helium temperature was studied.     

Detection of processed genetically modified food using CIM monolithic columns for DNA isolation

The availability of sufficient quantities of DNA of adequate quality is crucial in polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based methods for genetically modified food detection. In this work, the suitability of anion-exchange CIM (Convective Interaction Media; BIA Separations, Ljubljana, Slovenia) monolithic columns for isolation of DNA from food was studied. Maize and its derivates corn meal and thermally pretreated corn meal were chosen as model food. Two commercially available CIM disk columns were tested: DEAE (diethylaminoethyl) and QA (quaternary amine). Preliminary separations were performed with standard solution of salmon DNA at different pH values and different NaCl concentrations in mobile phase. DEAE groups and pH 8 were chosen for further isolations of DNA from a complex matrix-food extract. The quality and quantity of isolated DNA were tested on agarose gel electrophoresis, with UV-scanning spectrophotometry, and by amplification with real-time PCR. DNA isolated in this way was of suitable quality for further PCR analyses. The described method is also applicable for DNA isolation from processed foods with decreased DNA content. Furthermore, it is more effective and less time-consuming in comparison with the existing proposed methods for isolation of DNA from plant-derived foods.     

Isolation of lappaconitine from Aconitum septentrionale roots by adsorption

Extracts of Aconitum septentrionale Koelle roots obtained using chloroform, isopropanol, and ethanol were purified using chloroform and basic γ-Al₂O₃. Ballast materials were selectively adsorbed by γ-Al₂O₃, increasing the mass fraction of lappaconitine in the extract. The ethanol extract was purified most. The degree of lappaconitine extraction by chloroform was unaffected by the presence of γ-Al₂O₃. However, the mass fraction in the extract and lappaconitine extraction from Aconitum septentrionale were increased more than twice. __________ Translated from Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, No. 3, pp. 274–276, May–June, 2006.     

Bromsuperoxid: Bildung und Photoisomerisierung zu Bromdioxid

Bromine Superoxide: Generation and Photoisomerization into Bromine Dioxide Flash pyrolysis of a gas mixture containing bromine, oxygen and argon yields bromine superoxide, which can be identified IR- and UV-spectroscopically after trapping the pyrolysate at 12 K. Matrix irradiation transfers bromine superoxide into bromine dioxide. The backreaction can be induced by changing the wavelength. Even at room temperature a detectable amount of bromine superoxide is formed upon preparing a mixture of gaseous bromine, oxygen and argon.     

Preparative isolation of (+)-beta-eudesmol fromAmyris balsamifera

Summary Optically pure (+)-beta-eudesmol is a possible starting material for the synthesis of several termite defense compounds. A two step procedure for the isolation of gram quantities of (+)-beta-eudesmol from commercially availableAmyris balsamifera oil (syn. West Indian sandalwood oil), containing 8% beta-eudesmol, was developed. Step one consisted of an efficient vacuum distillation of the total oil. Step two was a medium pressure LC separation with an AgNO₃ impregnated silica gel stationary phase. Several other separation procedures failed due to the presence of many closely related sesquiterpene alcohols (75% of the oil).     

Isolation of lipase producer and its performance in enantioselective hydrolysis of glycidyl butyrate

A racemic glycidyl butyrate resolving strain, preliminarily identified as a Rhizopus sp., had been isolated from soil. Its extracellular lipase was found to enantioselectively hydrolyze the (S)-enantiomer of the chiral ester, with optimal activities at pH 5.3 and 42°C. Higher en antioselectivity of theenzyme was observed at lower temperatures, while the best anantioselectivity was obtained at pH 5.5–6.0, with an, E value (enantiomeric ratio) of 57.
