Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), also called marrow stromal cells, are adult cells that have attracted interest for their potential uses in therapeutic applications. There is a pressing need for scalable culture systems due to the large number of cells needed for clinical treatments. Here, a tailorable thin polymer coating—poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate‐ran‐vinyl dimethyl azlactone‐ran‐glycidyl methacrylate) [P(PEGMEMA‐r‐VDM‐r‐GMA); PVG]—to the surface of commercially available polystyrene and glass microcarriers to create chemically defined surfaces for large‐scale cell expansion is applied. These chemically defined microcarriers create a reproducible surface that does not rely on the adsorption of xenogenic serum proteins to mediate cell adhesion. Specifically, this coating method anchors PVG copolymer through ring opening nucleophilic attack by amine residues on poly‐l ‐lysine that is pre‐adsorbed to the surface of microcarriers. Importantly, this anchoring reaction preserves the monomer VDM reactivity for subsequent functionalization with an integrin‐specific Arg‐Gly‐Asp peptide to enable cell adhesion and expansion via a one‐step reaction in aqueous media. MSCs cultured on PVG‐coated microcarriers achieve sixfold expansion—similar to the expansion achieved on PS microcarriers—and retain their ability to differentiate after harvesting. 相似文献

KH2PO4 single crystals were grown in aqueous solution at different pH values by using “point seeds” with a defined crystallographic direction at 59 degree to the Z axis. Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) was applied to observe the surface morphology of (100) face. It was found that at the same supersaturation, the larger steps appeared at the lower pH value before appearance of 2D nucleus. We found that 2D nucleus was occurred at σ ≤ 0.04 when pH value is <2.8. The occurrence of 2D nucleus was caused by the decreasing step‐edge free energy with the decreasing of pH value in the growth solution. In this paper, we observed the morphologies of (100) faces of KDP crystals which grew in solutions with different pH values. 2D nucleuses appeared on the terrace of growth steps when pH value down to 2.8 and 3.2 at supersaturation of 0.04, while pH value down to 2.4, only 2D nucleation control the growth. Therefore, the pH value can change the growth mechanism of KDP crystals. 相似文献

A new strategy to achieve sequence control in polymer chemistry based on the iterative application of the versatile Passerini three‐component reaction (P‐3CR) in combination with efficient thiol–ene addition reactions is introduced. First, stearic acid was used as a starting substrate to build up a sequence‐defined tetramer with a molecular weight of 1.6 kDa. Using an acid‐functionalized PEG allowed for an easier isolation of the sequence‐defined macromolecules by simple precipitation and led to a sequence‐defined pentamer in a block‐copolymer architecture. Importantly, this new strategy completely avoids protecting group chemistry. By following this strategy, a different side chain can be introduced to the polymer/oligomer backbone in a simple way and at a defined position within the macromolecule. 相似文献

The round-trip attenuating process of lasers used for guiding in artificial water mists is studied with the Monte-Carlo method. A new way for confirming the scattering directions of photons is established based on calculating Mie cumulative probability distribution function of the polydisperse mist and user defined function fitting by Matlab. Two Monte-Carlo methods for photons tracking are mentioned and their efficiencies are discussed and balanced in this paper. A conclusion is come to that the Wight method is evidently more efficiency than the Event method, and the former is adopted in this paper. The radiuses of frequently-used water mists are usually in the range of 101–102 μm which are found to be suited to attenuate the 10.6 μm laser and can be used for laser stealth. But the effect is worse for 1.06 μm laser. 相似文献
