We present the design and study of waveguide structures based on porous silicon where the light confinement is not due to the usual total reflection effect but to the use of photonic crystals (PCs) as confining walls. These PC are omnidirectional mirrors (OMs), consisting of the periodic repetition of two porous silicon layers with different refractive indices and thicknesses. They reflect the radiation for all angles of incidence within a frequency range called the omnidirectional band gap (OBG). We have followed the PC formalism to investigate the properties of the OM as a multimode waveguide: the number of modes within the band gap, their field spatial distribution and their confinement as a function of the frequency and the core thickness. 相似文献

Roughness reduction of a submicron waveguide profile in chemically amplified negative resist is here performed by proper selection of an alkali-based developer, taking into account that its smaller molecules lead to smoother resist surface by altering the developing mechanism of aggregate extraction performed with standard quaternary ammonium hydroxide. Roughness is then analyzed by means of classical Atomic Force Microscope inspection; furthermore, a non-invasive line edge roughness analysis approach based on top-down scanning electron microscope acquisition gives comparable results, in terms of standard deviation and molecular aggregate periodicity. 相似文献

This paper presents a simple theory based on the diffraction integral approach for calculating the coupling efficiency in waveguide lasers which employ plane or spherical mirrors. The results obtained differ only slightly from a full rigorous approach, due to the fact that only less than one percent of the beam energy lies outside the waveguide aperture. The infinite aperture approximation employed here leads to an explicit compact formula for the coupling efficiency, whereas exact calculations lead to expressions requiring numerical integration for their evaluation. 相似文献

对一种新型结构微谐振环波长选择开关的特性进行了研究.分析了器件的工作状态和相应的开关操作,利用新型光强传递函数公式,对器件不同工作状态的光谱响应和不同开关操作的开关响应进行了数值模拟,讨论了耦合系数和损耗对光谱响应和开关响应的影响.结果表明,该器件可以实现三个信道同时接入、两个信道同时接入、单信道接入以及无信道接入等四种方式的信号波长选择性接入.多信道接入方式的开态串扰性能变差,关态的串扰性能不受影响.实现器件上述接入方式之间转换的开关操作可以分成三类,开关操作达到最佳关态串扰时的小微环折射率变化值都在6.0×10-3左右,而实现完全开关时的小微环折射率变化值小于8.0×10-4,表明易于通过热-光效应实现开关操作,并且温度调制的控制容差较大.损耗对器件开关特性的影响结果表明可根据损耗的实际数值,优化信道关闭时的微环折射率取值. 相似文献

Research activities concerned with color centers in alkali halide films started recently. The use of versatile, well-assessed, and low-cost fabrication techniques consisting of physical vapor deposition of Lithium Fluoride (LiF) films combined with direct writing lithographic processes allows the realization of miniaturized structures, like broad-band emitters, channel waveguides, optical microcavities and point-light sources emitting in the visible spectral range. Promising results have been obtained in the generation, amplification and waveguiding of visible light in LiF treated by low energy electron beams, where the efficient formation of stable primary and aggregate color centers also induces a local modification of the refractive index. A brief overview of the investigated optical properties is presented together with a short discussion about their perspectives of applications in optoelectronics. 相似文献

Abstract A model is proposed which addresses the factors involved in the axial light attenuation of a coated waveguide (collector/sensor) whose polymer coating has been sensitized to ammonia. The experimental results appear to corroborate the model predictions of high sensitivity (ppb) and independence of sample flow on the collector/sensor. Concentration and relative humidity both determine the slopes of the transmission curves, the latter factor of which can be reduced to a second order effect by controlling the relative humidity in the sample holder. 相似文献

We propose a system for measuring spectra of terahertz (THz) pulses, including single pulses, which is based on high-pass filters (HPFs). The system consists of channels for measuring amplitudes of pulses (initial pulses and those transmitted via HPFs with different cutoff frequencies) and an algorithm for processing of the obtained data. The pulse spectrum is restored by using the iteration method or the amplitude–frequency method. The iteration method of spectrum restoration is applicable in the range of THz pulse durations from 10−9 s to 10−7 s. The amplitude–frequency method is applicable to THz pulses with durations exceeding 10−8 s. The system for measuring of THz pulse spectra was simulated by using the characteristics of specially developed waveguide HPFs. The relative simulation error of determining the central frequency by the amplitude–frequency method is equal to 2 · 10−6 for THz pulse durations of 10−5 s and longer. 相似文献

We theoretically demonstrate a broadband mode converter and multiplexer based on plasmonic waveguides loaded with structured dielectrics. The proposed device can realize conversions between a fundamental TM0 mode and a first order TM1 mode, as well as (de)multiplex them with another TM0 mode. Our design exhibits as wide as 400 nm bandwidth and as short as 6~7 μm coupling length.
