An account is given of the use of Gaussian quadrature product formulae in the evaluation of certain six-dimensional, two-centre integrals involving one-electron Green's functions. These integrals occur in a new molecular variational principle recently proposed by Hall, Hyslop and Rees [1] from which an approximate energy may be derived which can be shown to be at least as good as that obtained from the Rayleigh-Ritz principle. Reductions in computing time are realized by removing certain singularities using a subtraction technique and also by using an empirically determined Richardson-type extrapolation formula. This paper was presented during the session on numerical integration methods for molecules of the 1970 Quantum Theory Conference in Nottingham. It has been revised in the light of the interesting discussion which followed. 相似文献

Our aim in this article is to study singularly perturbed problems which display boundary layers in the interior of the domain. These interior boundary layers which supplement the usual boundary layers at the boundary, are generated by discontinuities in the data. Second-order linear elliptic one-dimensional and multi-dimensional problems are considered in this article. 相似文献

In this paper we study a one-dimensional model equation with a nonlocal flux given by the Hilbert transform that is related with the complex inviscid Burgers equation. This equation arises in different contexts to characterize nonlocal and nonlinear behaviors. We show global existence, local existence, blow-up in finite time and ill-posedness depending on the sign of the initial data for classical solutions. 相似文献

A novel singular superelement (SSE) formulation has been developed to overcome the loss of accuracy encountered when applying the standard finite element schemes to two-dimensional elliptic problems possessing a singularity on the boundary arising from an abrupt change of boundary conditions or a reentrant corner. The SSE consists of an inner region over which the known analytic form of the solution in the vicinity of the singular point is utilized, and a transition region in which blending functions are used to provide a smooth transition to the usual linear or quadratic isoparametric elements used over the remainder of the domain. Solution of the finite element equations yield directly the coefficients of the asymptotic series, known as the flux/stress intensity factors in linear heat transfer or elasticity theories, respectively. Numerical examples using the SSE for the Laplace equation and for computing the stress intensity factors in the linear theory of elasticity are given, demonstrating that accurate results can be attained for a moderate computational effort. 相似文献

The solutions of Einsteins's equations in a constant energy-momentum tensor field are Ricci curvature homogeneous. Convenient perturbations of a Lorentz solvmanifold yield such curvature homogeneous metrics, prescribing redshift of light and singularities. 相似文献

We consider the quad curl problem in smooth and non smooth domains of the space. We first give an augmented variational formulation equivalent to the one from [25] if the datum is divergence free. We describe the singularities of the variational space which correspond to the ones of the Maxwell system with perfectly conducting boundary conditions. The edge and corner singularities of the solution of the corresponding boundary value problem with smooth data are also characterized. We finally obtain some regularity results of the variational solution. 相似文献

Abstract In the present article, we study the system of eikonal and transport equations arising in geometrical optics. The mathematical analysis is performed by using the suitable notion of solution, i.e., the viscosity solution for the Hamilton–Jacobi equation and the measure solution for the transport equation defined via the generalized Filippov characteristics. We study the stability as well as the geometry of the solution to the system. 相似文献
