Based on geometrically non-linear theory for extensible elastic beams, governing equations of statically post-buckling of a beam with one end hinged and the other fixed, subjected to a uniformly distributed, tangentially compressing follower forces are established. They consist of a boundary-value problem of ordinary differential equations with a strong non-linearity, in which seven unknown functions are contained and the arc length of the deformed axis is considered as one of the basic unknown functions. By using shooting method and in conjunction with analytical continuation, the non-linear governing equations are solved numerically and the equilibrium paths as well as the post-buckled configurations of the deformed beam are presented. A comparison between the results of conservative system and that of the non-conservative systems are given. The results show that the features of the equilibrium paths of the beams under follower loads are evidently different from that under conservative ones.  相似文献

The paper shows the effects of behaviour of loading during the buckling process on the value of critical force and initial stability of post-buckling path for elastic, non-prismatic columns. Perturbation method combined with Croll's manoeuvre makes it possible to derive general formulae for the first or the second correction of the force, and hence to analyze stability in the post-buckling range. The effects of behaviour of active and reactive forces may be essential: in numerous examples the boundary values of structural parameters separating stability and instability are evaluated. Pre-buckling geometry changes are analyzed as well.  相似文献

Post-buckling of a cantilever column is examined under a combined load consisting of a tip-concentrated load and a distributed axial load, through dynamic formulation. The formulation of the problem is based on the moment–curvature relationship. The two-point boundary value problem described by the governing equations is dependent on the frequency parameter and the two load parameters. The buckling loads are those loads at which the eigencurve, namely, the load versus frequency curve of the column meets the load axis. A simple and reliable iterative procedure to convert the two-point boundary value problem into an initial value problem is followed and solved the non-linear differential equations utilizing a fourth-order Runge–Kutta integration scheme. To demonstrate the potentiality of the adopted numerical scheme, linear vibration frequencies of truncated, tapered cantilever wedges and cones are determined and compared with the published analytical and test results. Buckling and post-buckling loads of a simply supported stepped column are obtained and compared with the published test results. The loads and deflections of non-uniform cantilever columns are obtained for various slopes at the tip. The interaction of load parameters for a free–free truncated conical column has also been examined. The numerical results indicate that the path represented by the two load parameters turns out to be nearly a straight line.  相似文献

We propose a wavelet method in the present study to analyze the large deflection bending and post-buckling problems of rods composed of non-linearly elastic materials, which are governed by a class of strong non-linear differential equations. This wavelet method is established based on a modified wavelet approximation of an interval bounded L2-function, which provides a new method for the large deflection bending and post-buckling problems of engineering structures. As an example, in this study, we considered the rod structures of non-linear materials that obey the Ludwick and the modified Ludwick constitutive laws. The numerical results for both large deflection bending and post-buckling problems are presented, illustrating the convergence and accuracy of the wavelet method. For the former, the wavelet solutions are more accurate than the finite element method and the shooting method embedded with the Euler method. For the latter, both bifurcation and limit loads can be easily and directly obtained by solving the extended systems. On the other hand, for the shooting method embedded with Runge–Kutta method, to obtain these values usually needs to choose a good starting value and repeat trial solutions many times, which can be a tough task.  相似文献

The nonlinear governing equation of microbeam based on the strain gradient theory is derived by using a combination of the strain gradient theory and the Hamilton’s principle, and the nonlinear static bending deformation, the post-bucking problem and the nonlinear free vibration are analyzed. The nonlinear term in the nonlinear governing equation is associated with the mean axial extension of the microbeam. The static bending deformation of the clamped–clamped microbeam subjected to transverse force, the critical buckling loads and the nonlinear frequencies of the simple supported microbeam with initial lateral displacement are discussed. It is shown that the size effect is significant when the ratio of characteristic thickness to internal material length scale parameters is approximately equal to one or two, but is diminishing with the increase of the ratio. The results also indicate that the nonlinearity has a great effect on the static and dynamic behavior of microbeam. To attain accurate and reliable characterization of the static and dynamic properties of microbeam, therefore, both the micro structure dependent parameters and the nonlinear term have to be incorporated in the design of micro structures in MEMS or NEMS.  相似文献

An exact non-linear formulation of the equilibrium of elastic prismatic rods subjected to compression and planar bending is presented, electing as primary displacement variable the cross-section rotations and taking into account the axis extensibility. Such a formulation proves to be sufficiently general to encompass any boundary condition. The evaluation of critical loads for the five classical Euler buckling cases is pursued, allowing for the assessment of the axis extensibility effect. From the quantitative viewpoint, it is seen that such an influence is negligible for very slender bars, but it dramatically increases as the slenderness ratio decreases. From the qualitative viewpoint, its effect is that there are not infinite critical loads, as foreseen by the classical inextensible theory. The method of multiple (spatial) scales is used to survey the post-buckling regime for the five classical Euler buckling cases, with remarkable success, since very small deviations were observed with respect to results obtained via numerical integration of the exact equation of equilibrium, even when loads much higher than the critical ones were considered. Although known beforehand that such classical Euler buckling cases are imperfection insensitive, the effect of load offsets were also looked at, thus showing that the formulation is sufficiently general to accommodate this sort of analysis.  相似文献

The behaviour of tubes under conditions of pure bending is investigated for the cases where the material of which they are constructed is either orthotropic or of various Poisson's ratios. Large deflections and moderate nonlinear strains are considered and the modelling incorporates Timoshenko beam theory thereby allowing non-zero shear strains to develop. This in turn makes axially inhomogeneous deformation of the cross-section possible and, in particular, the compressed side can develop wrinkling. Numerical solutions are presented for various material types and tube dimensions and some interesting phenomena, such as mode interaction and jumping, are demonstrated.  相似文献

This paper presents formulation and solutions for the elastica of slender rods subjected to axial terminal forces and boundary conditions assumed hinged and elastically restrained with a rotational spring. The set of five first-order non-linear ordinary differential equations with boundary conditions specified at both ends constitutes a complex two-point boundary value problem. Solutions for buckling, initial post-buckling (perturbation), large loads (asymptotic) and numerical integration are developed. Results are presented in non-dimensional graphs for a range of rotational spring stiffness, tuning the analysis from double-hinged to hinged-built-in rods.  相似文献

The nonlinear models of the elastic and elasticlinear strain-hardening square plates with four immovably simply-supported edges are established by employing Hamilton‘s Variational Principle in a uniform temperature field. The unilateral equilibrium equations satisfied by the plastically buckled equilibria are also established. Dynamics and stability of the elastic and plastic plates are investigated analytically and the buckled equilibria are investigated by employing Galerkin-Ritz‘s method. The vibration frequencies, the first critical temperature differences of instability or buckling, the elastically buckled equilibria and the extremes depending on the final loading temperature difference of the plastically buckled equillibria of the plate are obtained. The results indicate that the critical buckling value of the plastic plate is lower than its critical instability value and the critical value of its buckled equilibria turning back to the trivial equilibrium are higher than the value. However, three critical values of the elastic plate are equal. The unidirectional snap-through may occur both at the stress-strain boundary of elasticity and plasticity and at the initial stage of unloading of the plastic plate.  相似文献

Basic mechanisms for the buckling of a thin cylindrical shell under torsional loading are reviewed from a post-buckling perspective. Deflections are considered so far into the large-deflection range that the shell is allowed to fold to a flat two-dimensional form, in a mechanism reminiscent of a deployable structure. Critical and initial post-buckling effects are explored through concepts of energy minimization and hidden symmetries. For comparisons with the final large-deflection folded shape, a truss element program is employed. It is shown that, as buckling develops, the mode shape must change to accommodate both the symmetry-breaking aspects of the predominately inwards deflection, and the rotation of peak and valley lines of the buckle pattern necessary to accommodate the geometry of the final folded shape.  相似文献
