From the de Broglie matter wave hypothesis and Planck’s energy quantization law, and assuming conservation of energy in the
absorption of a photon and its consequent conversion to kinetic energy of motion by a material particle initially at rest,
one can deduce a simple mathematical relationship between the wavelength λ (or frequency ν), of the photon absorbed by the
particle at rest, and the resulting de Broglie matter wave length, λD, of the particle with kinetic energy of motion of mv2/2. The relationship so deduced, λD∝√λ, suggests that visible wavelengths of light, from about 4000 ?, in the violet, to beyond about 7000 ?, in the red, on
absorption by an electron at rest, lead to material electron wavelengths, λD, of the order of the size of the electron transfer proteins seen in the photosynthetic reaction centers of photosynthesizing
organisms, at about a size of 50–100 ?. In addition to understanding the mechanism of photosynthesis as a material wave mediated
phenomenon, further areas of importance of the relations pointed out in this paper are in the design of experiments to gain

We develop a picosecond widely tunable laser in a deep-ultraviolet region from 175 nm to 210 nm,generated by two stages of frequency doubling of a 80-MHz mode-locked picosecond Ti:sapphire laser.A β-BaB2O4 walk-off compensation configuration and a KBe2BO3F2 prism-coupled device are adopted for the generation of second harmonic and fourth harmonics,respectively.The highest power is 3.72 mW at 193 nm,and the fluctuation at 2.85 mW in 130 min is less than ±2%. 相似文献

提出并验证了一种单-双波长可调谐掺铒光纤激光器。利用级联光纤布拉格光栅(Cascaded Fiber Bragg gratings,Cascaded FBGs)结合Sagnac环结构所产生的复合滤波效应,实现较高精细度滤波,并通过调节环内偏振控制器(Polarization Controller,PC),引入双折射效应,得到波长可调谐的光纤激光器。基于耦合模理论并使用传输矩阵法对该结构的传输特性进行了分析,在此基础上搭建实验系统,验证了理论分析的正确性。实验结果表明:通过调节PC,激光器输出激光的波长范围约为1 555.644~1 556.112 nm,双波长间隔的可调范围约为0.108~0.452 nm,单-双波长的边模抑制比(SMSR)均高于40 dB;在稳定性测试中,输出单-双波长激光的波长最大漂移量小于0.008 nm。该方法具有结构简单、调谐方便、易于实现且精细度较高的优点,可应用于密集波分复用及全光通信系统等领域。 相似文献

Elastic deformations of nematic liquid crystal layers subjected to a d.c. electric field were studied numerically. The flexoelectric properties of the nematic material and the presence of ionic space charge were taken into account. Homeotropic alignment with finite surface anchoring strength was assumed. The director orientation and the electric potential distribution were calculated; the space charge density was also determined. It was found that the threshold voltage strongly depended on the parameters of the system. In particular, a threshold as low as a few tenths of a volt occurred under suitable circumstances. In the case of a negative dielectric anisotropy, Δ ε, such low values of the threshold voltage existed when the ion concentration was sufficiently high, and given sufficiently large magnitudes of the flexoelectric coefficients and a sufficiently small anchoring energy. If the ion concentration was low or if the flexoelectric coefficients were small or if the surface anchoring was strong, the threshold was equal to several volts. In the case of positive dielectric anisotropy, the threshold amounted to several tenths of a volt for a weakly anisotropic and highly conductive material. If the dielectric anisotropy was sufficiently high or if the ion concentration was sufficiently low, the threshold voltage increased with Δ ε and reached tens of volts. These results can be explained as the effect of the inhomogeneous electric field arising in the vicinity of the surfaces, due to the ionic space charge redistributed by the external voltage. They are qualitatively consistent with earlier experiments which show the effect of the ion concentration on the elastic deformations in flexoelectric nematics. They correspond also with theoretical results concerning the effect of the electric field produced by the surface polarization or by the adsorption of ions. 相似文献

We analysed the response of a tunable liquid crystal metamaterial transducer in the terahertz frequency range. Tunability of scattering parameters is achieving by an in-plane switching (IPS) effect. The metamaterial structure is based on Ω-shape resonators. A full-wave analysis technique based on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method was performed using the QuickWave 3D electromagnetic solver. Terahertz transmission properties of the metamaterial structure can be controlled by the director of the liquid crystal layer. The effective refractive index for operation frequency varies from negative to positive values. A novel approach to switching of metamaterial transducer by IPS mode is presented. 相似文献
