Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)–halloysite (PNIPAM‐HNT) nanocomposites exhibited inverse temperature solubility with a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) in water. Palladium (Pd) nanoparticles were anchored on PNIPAM‐HNT nanocomposites with various amounts of HNT from 5 to 30 wt%. These Pd catalysts exhibited excellent reactivities for Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reactions at 50–70 °C in water. In particular, Pd anchored PNIPAM/HNT (95:5 w/w ratio) nanocomposites showed excellent recyclability up to 10 times in 96% average yield by simple filtration. In this study, polyamide 12 (PA12)/untreated halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) nanocomposites are prepared in a semi‐industrial scale extruder using a non‐traditional “one step” water‐assisted extrusion process. A morphological study is carried out using a combination of scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analyses to evaluate the influence of water injection and filler content on the quality of clay dispersion. The use of water injection slightly improves the nanoscale dispersion at low HNTs content (<8 wt.%), while this effect is more pronounced at higher filler loading (16 wt.%). A mechanism explaining the physico‐chemical action of water during extrusion is proposed. The materials are characterized with respect to their mechanical, thermo‐mechanical, thermal and fire properties. A strong correlation is found between nanostructure and physical properties; the more uniform dispersion of the clay nanotubes, the higher mechanical reinforcement, thermal stability and fire retardancy of PA12 nanocomposites. Tensile tests results are interpreted in terms of three mechanical models: the Halpin–Tsai's model for stiffness and the interfacial strength model and the Pukanszky's equation for yield strength. Linear fits of the experimental data confirm that the superior reinforcement of nanocomposites prepared using water injection results from improved clay dispersion and better interfacial adhesion between PA12 and HNTs. In view of these promising results, the proposed direct melt compounding method could be easily scaled‐up towards the production of PA12–HNTs nanocomposites at an industrial scale. In the present research, a multifunctional hierarchical reinforcement was prepared by chemical modification of carbon fibers (CFs) with halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) by the bridging diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) for improving interfacial microstructures and properties of composites. Surface structures and groups of modified HNTs and CFs were characterized systematically. The uniform distributions of the introduced DTPA and HNTs helped to increase fiber polarity, surface energy, and wettability. As a consequence, significant enhancements of interfacial properties and hydrothermal aging resistance of composites were achieved, and interfacial reinforcing mechanisms have also been studied. Moreover, the storage modulus showed a 17.95% improvement, and the glass transition temperature was enhanced by 17°C by dynamic mechanical analysis testing.  相似文献

Nanofiltration (NF) membranes have been widely used for the treatment of electroplating, aerospace, textile, pharmaceutical, and other chemical industries. In this work, halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) were directly anchored on the surface of commercial nanofiltration (NF) membrane by dopamine modification following advantageous bio‐inspired methods. SEM and AFM images were used to characterize the HNTs decorated membrane surface in terms of surface morphology and roughness. Water contact angle (WCA) was employed in evidencing the incorporation of HNTs and dopamine in terms of hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity. Augmentation of HNTs was found to obviously enhance the hydrophilicity and surface roughness resulting in improved water permeability of membrane. More importantly, the rejection ratios of membrane also increased during the removal of heavy metal ions from wastewater. The permeability and Cu2+ rejection ratio of modified NF membrane were as high as 13.9 L·m?2·h?1·bar?1 and 74.3%, respectively. Incorporation of HNTs was also found to enhance the anti‐fouling property and stability of membrane as evident from long‐term performance tests. The relative concentration of HNTs and dopamine on membrane surface was optimized by investigating the trade‐off between water permeability and rejection ratio.  相似文献

In this work, we prepared amino-modified halloysite nanotubes (PEI-DHNTs) via the co-deposition of self-polymerized dopamine and polyethylenimine (PEI) on the surface of nanotubes, which was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). A series of composite proton exchange membranes (PEMs) were prepared by incorporating PEI-DHNTs and phosphotungstic acid (HPW) into sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK). It was found that both PEI-DHNTs and HPW were well dispersed in the polymer matrix, exhibiting excellent filler-matrix compatibility. The composite membranes demonstrated enhanced proton conductivity, reaching as high as 0.078 S cm−1 with 33.3 wt.% HPW loading, which was ~90% higher than that of SPEEK control membrane. Such improvement was mainly attributed to the strong acid–base pairs formed by PEI-DHNT with both SPEEK and HPW, which shortened proton hopping distance and created more continuous proton conduction pathways. Furthermore, the membrane conductivity remained almost constant after 1 year's immersion in liquid water, indicating the successful immobilization of HPW in the composite membranes.  相似文献

The correlation between the mechanical strength and the crystallization behavior of natural rubber (NR)/halloysite nanotubes (HNT) composites is discussed. The tensile strength of NR is improved with the addition of HNT. This improvement is attributed to the unique structure of HNT, which facilitates good dispersion and strong interfacial interaction. HNT also play an important role in assisting the strain-induced crystallization of NR. Crystallization under strain is observed using synchrotron wide-angle X-ray scattering. The stress–strain curves and the corresponding degree of crystallinity after straining provide further evidence. Based on these analyses, a mechanistic model for strain-induced crystallization and the evolution of the orientation of the network structure is proposed.  相似文献

In this study, an ionic liquid (IL), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate, was used to prepare ionogels with microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and halloysite (Hal). SEM, XRD, TG, DSC, FTIR spectroscopy, conductometry and mechanical tests were used to study the morphology, structure, thermal behaviour and electrophysical and mechanical characteristics of synthesised ionogels. XRD analysis showed a slight decrease in the interlayer space of halloysite in ionogels containing MCC, which may have been associated with the removal of residual water molecules resulting from hydrophilic IL anions and polymer macromolecules. A change in conductivity and glass-transition temperature of the ionic liquid was revealed due to intercalation into halloysite (a confinement effect) and modification with cellulose. For triple IL/Hal/MCC ionogels, the characteristic thermal degradation temperatures were higher than the corresponding values for IL/Hal composites. This indicates that the synthesised IL/Hal/MCC ionogels are characterised by a greater thermal stability than those of IL/Hal systems.  相似文献

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/halloysite composites were prepared using melt compounding followed by compression molding. Maleic anhydride grafted styrene-ethylene/butylene-styrene (SEBS-g-MAH) was used to toughen the PLA composites. The mechanical properties of the PLA composites were studied through tensile, flexural, and impact tests. The thermal properties were characterized by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The fracture surfaces of the composites were assessed by using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The impact strength and thermal properties of the PLA/halloysite composites were increased by addition of SEBS-g-MAH.  相似文献

Halloysite is natural aluminosilicate clay with hollow tubular structure which allows loading with low soluble drugs using their saturated solutions in organic solvents. Resveratrol, a polyphenol known for having antioxidant and antineoplastic properties, is loaded inside these clay nanotubes lumens. Release time of 48 h is demonstrated. Spectroscopic and ζ‐potential measurements are used to study the drug loading/release and for monitoring the nanotube layer‐by‐layer (LbL) coating with polyelectrolytes for further release control. Resveratrol‐loaded clay nanotubes are added to breast cell cultures for toxicity tests. Halloysite functionalization with LbL polyelectrolyte multilayers remarkably decrease nanotube self‐toxicity. MTT measurements performed with a neoplastic cell lines model system (MCF‐7) as function of the resveratrol‐loaded nanotubes concentration and incubation time indicate that drug‐loaded halloysite strongly increase of cytotoxicity leading to cell apoptosis.
