Biosynthesis of phytoecdysteroids in Ajuga hairy roots: clerosterol as a precursor of cyasterone, isocyasterone and 29-norcyasterone

Feeding studies of six ¹³C-labeled sterols, including clerosterol, to hairy roots of Ajugareptans var. atropurpurea have established that clerosterol is a precursor of three phytoecdysteroids, cyasterone, isocyasterone and 29-norcyasterone.     

Phytoecdysteroids of Silene viridiflora

The known ecdysteroids polipodin B, 2-deoxyecdysterone, ecdysterone, 26-hydroxypolipodin B, integristerone A, and sileneosides A and D were observed in the aerial part of Silene viridiflora L. (Caryophyllaceae). 26-Hydroxypolipodin B was observed in this species for the first time.

Circular Dichroism Spectra of 5- and 7-Bromo-6-ketosteroids

Circulardichroismspectra of 5- and 7-bromo-6-ketosteroidsof the cholestane and stigmastane serieswere studied. A negative Cotton effect corresponding to the n-* -transition of the ketone was observed in the CD spectra of 5-bromo-6-ketosteroids at 300 nm. The analogous Cotton effect was positive in CD spectra of 7-bromo-6-ketosteroids.
