Diffraction in electron stimulated desorption has revealed a propensity for Cl+ desorption from rest atom vs. adatom areas and unfaulted vs. faulted zones of Cl-terminated Si(1 1 1)-(7 × 7) surfaces. We associate the 15 eV ± 1 eV threshold with ionization of Si-Cl σ-bonding surface states and formation of screened two-hole states with Si 3s character. Similar specificity is observed from A and B reconstructions. This can be due to reduced screening in unfaulted regions and increased hole localization in Si back-bonds within faulted regions. 相似文献

The formation of a well-ordered p(2 × 2) overlayer of atomic nitrogen on the Pt(1 1 1) surface and its reaction with hydrogen were characterized with reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS), temperature programmed desorption (TPD), low energy electron diffraction (LEED), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The p(2 × 2)-N overlayer is formed by exposure of ammonia to a surface at 85 K that is covered with 0.44 monolayer (ML) of molecular oxygen and then heating to 400 K. The reaction between ammonia and oxygen produces water, which desorbs below 400 K. The only desorption product observed above 400 K is molecular nitrogen, which has a peak desorption temperature of 453 K. The absence of oxygen after the 400 K anneal is confirmed with AES. Although atomic nitrogen can also be produced on the surface through the reaction of ammonia with an atomic, rather than molecular, oxygen overlayer at a saturation coverage of 0.25 ML, the yield of surface nitrogen is significantly less, as indicated by the N2 TPD peak area. Atomic nitrogen readily reacts with hydrogen to produce the NH species, which is characterized with RAIRS by an intense and narrow (FWHM ∼ 4 cm−1) peak at 3322 cm−1. The areas of the H2 TPD peak associated with NH dissociation and the XPS N 1s peak associated with the NH species indicate that not all of the surface N atoms can be converted to NH by the methods used here. 相似文献

The effect of the amount of desorbed water on the mechanical properties of composites based on low-density polyethylene and linen yarn production waste (LW) is analyzed by statistical methods. It is shown that the amount of absorbed water decreases during the desorption process at room temperature both for specimens modified and unmodified with diphenylmethane diisocyanate (DIC.) The most sensitive to the action of water is the elastic modulus, which decreases considerably under the effect of water and is fully restored in the desorption process. The tensile strain also increases with the amount of absorbed water. It is found that the elastic modulus of the unmodified composite correlates linearly with the amount of desorbed water. Between the amount of desorbed water and the tensile strain, as well the specific work of deformation, a negative linear correlation is revealed. To better understand the effects of diverse substituents on reactions leading to porphyrins, pyrrole+aldehyde condensations and related reactions of dipyrromethanes were examined. The course of pyrrole+aldehyde condensations was investigated by monitoring the yield of porphyrin (by UV-Vis spectroscopy), reaction of aldehyde (by TLC), and changes in the composition of oligomers (by laser desorption mass spectrometry). Reaction reversibility was examined via exchange experiments. Reversibility of reactions leading to porphyrin was further probed with studies of dipyrromethanes. The reaction course was found to depend on the nature of the substituent and the acid catalyst. Alkyl or electron-donating substituents displayed levels of reversibility (exchange/scrambling) on par or greater than that of the phenyl substituent, whereas electron-withdrawing or sterically bulky substituents exhibited little to no reversibility. The results obtained provide insight into the electronic and steric effects of different substituents and should facilitate the design of synthetic plans for preparing porphyrinic macrocycles. 相似文献

An automated procedure was developed for monitoring fast changes in the size of spherical samples of polymers during their
contact with a solvent or drying. The kinetics of bulk deformation in these processes was studied for a series of cross-linked
polymers, viz., gel-type and porous styrene—divinylbenzene copolymers and poly(divinylbenzenes), and hypercrosslinked polystyrenes. Gel,
macroporous, and hypercrosslinked polystyrenes are substantially different in the rate, mechanism, and degree of swelling,
which is associated with the principal differences in their physical structures. An unusual effect of a sharp decrease followed
by a temporary increase in the volume of porous polystyrene and poly(divinylbenzene) materials were observed during desorption
(evaporation) of organic solvents. Water desorption is accompanied by an excessive bulk compression of porous granules giving
rise to negative deformations, which gradually relax to the state equilibrium for the dry polymer. The results of dynamic
desorption porometry (for water desorption) are indicative of a bimodal size distribution of micropores in hypercrosslinked
polystyrene.

In photochemical vapor deposition of aluminum film on silicon using dimethylaluminum hydride, (CH3)2AlH, a surface reaction dominated below a (CH3)2AlH pressure of 0.3 m Torr at 200°C, which was induced only with the 160 nm band emitted from a deuterium lamp. A gas-phase reaction occurred above 0.3 mTorr at 200°C, which could be induced by both 160 nm and 240 nm emission bands from the lamp. To distinguish between surface ad gas-phase reactions, a thickness profile was used. At 240°C the surface reaction could be induced even by the 240 nm band, while the deposits formed under illumination of the two bands were thinner than those obtained with only the 240 nm band, indicating occurrence of vacuum ultraviolet (VUV)-enhanced desorption. The mechanism responsible for the observed wavelength dependence in unclear. The electrical resistivity of the films deposited at 200°C was 4.5 μΩ cm, which did not change with wavelength. 相似文献

We present data showing hyperfine transitions in an atomic deuterium beam induced by the (476 MHz) radio-frequency field of
a 704 MeV electron beam in a storage ring. A polarized deuterium beam, produced in an atomic beam source, was crossed with
a stored electron beam and analyzed with a Breit--Rabi polarimeter. Electron-beam induced transitions were singled out by
injecting different combinations of hyperfine states. Transition probabilities as high as 70% were measured at large currents
(~ 100 mA). All possible deuterium transitions for a radio-frequency of 476 MHz were observed. In addition, a 1--6 transition
resulting from the first harmonic (952 MHz) was observed.
The effects of these transitions are of general importance for the polarized internal target technique applied in nuclear
and particle physics experiments. The data are reasonably described by numerical estimates. The observed mechanism can be
exploited to create nuclear polarized atoms when injecting electron polarized atoms with no net nuclear polarization into
a storage cell. However, when nuclear polarized atoms are injected, care should be taken to avoid this mechanism, since it
would result in depolarization of the atoms. The studies enabled us to choose the magnetic guide field during our spin-dependent
electron--deuteron scattering experiments, such that electron-beam induced depolarizing effects were avoided.

The electron-stimulated desorption (ESD) of D− and H− ions from condensed D2O and H2O films is investigated. Three low-energy peaks are observed in the ESD anion yield, which are identified as arising from excitation of 2B1, 2A1 and 2B2 dissociative electron attachment (DEA) resonances. Additional structure is observed between 18 and 32 eV, which may be due to ion pair formation or to DEA resonances involving the 2a1 orbital. The ion yield resulting from excitation of the 2B1 resonance increases as the film is heated. We attribute the increase in the ion yield to thermally induced hydrogen bond breaking near the surface, which enhances the lifetimes of the excited states that lead to desorption. 相似文献

Transesterification of a phosphodiester bond of RNA models has been studied in various buffer solutions, under neutral and slightly alkaline conditions in H2O and D2O. The results show that imidazole is the only buffer system where a clear buffer catalysis on the cleavage of a phosphodiester bond is observed. The rate enhancement in sulphonic acid buffers is smaller, and a sulphonate base, particularly, is inactive as a catalyst. The rate‐enhancing effect of imidazole is, however, catalytic, and the catalytic inactivity of sulphonate buffers can be attributed to their structure and/or charge. The catalysis by imidazole is a complex system which, in addition to first‐order reactions, involves a process that shows a second‐order dependence in imidazole concentration. The latter reaction becomes significant in acidic imidazole buffers (pH < pKa), as the buffer concentration increases. The kinetic solvent deuterium isotope effect kH/kD, referring to first‐order catalysis by imidazole base, is 2.3 ± 0.3.
