Two species of edible clams Venerupis aurea laeta and Cerastoderma edule glaucum from Ganzirri Lake (Sicily, Italy) were investigated to determine OCP and PCB residues by GC-MS. Thirty-five samples were examined for two years in order to perform: a) their actual contamination; b) the daily dietary exposure of seafood consumers to the pollutants in question. In all the clams analysed in this study, PCB and OCP (4,4′-DDE) residues are always below the limits fixed by law. It seems that there is some seasonality of concentrations observed. In fact the more high concentrations of residues are detected in the hot months, for both species and years. Given the consumption of clams and the values obtained in this study for the two species analysed, it is possible estimate that the average daily dietary intake of NDL-PCB and of 4,4′-DDE for adults is really low.  相似文献

Taurine (Tau) has some important ameliorating effects on human health and is present in bivalve. For the selective analysis of Tau with other amino acids, we designed a derivatization reagent, 2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl(4-(((2-nitrophenyl)sulfonyl)oxy)-6-(3-oxomorpholino)quinoline-2-carbonyl)pyrrolidine-3-carboxylate (Ns-MOK-β-Pro-OSu). After derivatization with Ns-MOK-β-Pro-OSu, amino acids with Tau in Japanese littleneck clams were determined through ultra-high-performance-liquid chromatography with high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS/MS) using an octadecyl silica column. We could detect 18 amino acids within 10 min. Tau, valine, glutamine, glutamic acid, and arginine in the clams were determined in the negative ion mode using the characteristic fragment ion, C6H4N1O5S, which corresponded to the 2-nitrobenzenesulfonylate moiety. The fragment ion, C6H4N1O5S, was recognized as a common feature regardless of the amino acid to be derivatized, and it was convenient for detecting amino acid derivatives with high selectivity and sensitivity. Therefore, highly selective quantification using UHPLC-HRMS/MS was possible using Ns-MOK-β-Pro-OSu.  相似文献

The Atlantic jackknife clam, Ensis directus, is currently being researched as a potential species for aquaculture operations in Maine. The goal of this study was to describe the hemocytes of this species for the first time and provide a morphological classification scheme. We viewed hemocytes under light microscopy (using Hemacolor, neutral red, and Pappenheim’s stains) as well as transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The 2 main types of hemocytes found were granulocytes and hyalinocytes (agranular cells). The granulocytes were subdivided into large and small granulocytes while the hyalinocytes were subdivided into large and small hyalinocytes. The large hemocytes had both a larger diameter and smaller nucleus to cell diameter ratio than their smaller counterparts. A rare cell type, the vesicular cell, was also observed and it possessed many vesicles but few or no granules. Using TEM, granulocytes were found to contain both electron-lucent and electron-dense granules of various sizes. These numerous granules were the only structures that took up the neutral red stain. Hyalinocytes had few of these granules relative to granulocytes. Large hyalinocytes had both various organelles and large vesicles in their abundant cytoplasm while small hyalinocytes had little room for organelles in their scant cytoplasm. Total hemocyte counts averaged 1.96 × 106 cells mL−1 while differential hemocyte counts averaged 11% for small hyalinocytes, 12% for large hyalinocytes, 59% for small granulocytes, and 18% for large granulocytes. The results of this study provide a starting point for future studies on E. directus immune function.  相似文献

A survey of organotin compounds comprising tributyltin (TBT), dibutyltin (DBT) and monobutyltin (MBT) in sediment and clam (Meretrix meretrix) was undertaken in Vietnam in 2003. Samples were collected from dry docks and cargo harbours in Ho Chi Minh (south), Da Nang (centre) and Hai Phong (north) cities. Measurable amounts of TBT, DBT and MBT were found in all samples. The total concentration of the butyltin compounds (ΣBTs) in sediment from shipyards and vessel repair yards (Nam Trieu, Song Cam, Lach Tray and Ba Son) were always higher than those measured in cargo ports (Hai Phong, Da Nang, and Sai Gon). The highest ΣBTs concentration (as tin: 122 ng g?1 dry wt) was found in the sediment from Song Cam station, where seven shipyards are located. The lowest concentrations of ΣBTs occurred in sediments from the Da Nang and Hai Phong cargo ports (as tin: 21–22 ng g?1 dry wt). This implies that the major source of BTs in the marine environment in Vietnam is from the shipbuilding activities. The ratio of TBT to Σ(MBT + DBT) in sediment was 0.67 ± 0.03 for all the sampling sites, indicating the recent use of TBT in Vietnam. For the clam (M. meretrix), the concentration of ΣBTs (as tin) varied in the range 11.2–60.1 ng g?1 wet wt. There was a good correlation (R2 = 0.85) between total organic matter‐normalized ΣBTs in sediment and hexane‐extractable organic matter‐normalized ΣBTs in clam soft tissue. The mean biota–sediment accumulation factors (organic carbon/lipid) for MBT, DBT and TBT in clam's soft tissue were found to be 1.83 ± 0.66, 1.44 ± 0.23 and 1.16 ± 0.47 respectively, indicating that sediment‐bound BTs might be an important source of contamination for the clam. The separation of arylarsonic acids by HPLC on a reverse-phase C18 column is described. Solutions containing these arsenicals and others such as arsenobetaine are photo-oxidized to arsenate by ultraviolet (UV) radiation (1200 W, 1 h exposure). This allows the analysis of the solution for arsenic by hydride generation techniques. The method, UV HGAA, is developed and applied to the determination of arsenic in the methanol extracts of the Manila clam (Verupis japonica) and the Horse clam (Schizothoerus nutalli).  相似文献

The water-soluble arsenic compounds in five species of clams – Butter clam (Saxidomus giganteus), Horse clam (Schizothoerus nuttalli), Soft-shelled clam (Mya arenaria), Native littleneck clam (Protothaca staminea), and Manila clam (Venerupis japonica) – are described. Varying amounts of arsenobetaine and tetramethylarsonium ion are the major arsenicals found in all species. Butter clams show the presence of a third compound which appears to be trimethylarsine oxide. Small amounts of as-yet-unidentified arsenicals can also be isolated.  相似文献
