Effect of borohydride as reducing agent on the structures and electrochemical properties of Pt/C catalyst

In this paper, we found that boron deposited on the surface of support when sodium borohydride used as reducing agent during the preparation of Pt/C catalyst. The deposition of boron markedly reduces particle size of Pt, raises electrochemical active surface (EAS) area of catalyst and electrochemical activity for hydrogen evolution or oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) compared with which prepared using other reducing agents (hydrogen and formaldehyde).

Borane-catalyzed hydroboration of substituted alkenes by lithium borohydride or sodium borohydride

In the presence of a catalytic amount of BH₃·Me₂S, TiCl₄ or Me₃SiCl, LiBH₄ or NaBH₄ are capable of hydroborating alkenes by following the unusual order of decreasing reactivity: tetramethylethylene > 1-methylcyclohexene > cyclohexene; the key step of the catalytic cycle is the exchange reaction between LiBH₄ and the mono- or dialkylboranes resulting from hydroboration of the more substituted alkenes with BH₃.     

Titanyl Acetylacetonate as an Efficient Catalyst for Regioselective 1,2‐Reduction of α,β‐Unsaturated Carbonyl Compounds and Conversion of α‐Diketones & Acyloins to Vicinal Diols with Sodium Borohydride

α,β‐Unsaturated aldehydes and ketones were reduced readily and exclusively to their corresponding allylic alcohols with NaBH₄ and catalytic amounts of titanyl acetylacetonate at room temperature. Reduction reactions were carried out in CH₃CN or THF. This reducing system was also efficient for the reduction of α‐diketones and acyloins to their corresponding vicinal diols in CH₃CN.     

聚合物硼氢阴离子还原剂的制备及其对酯的还原研究

氯型季我安盐型强碱性阴离子交换树脂７１１＾＃与硼氢化钾反应制得聚合物硼氢阴离子还原剂，树脂容量３．２ｍｍｏｌ ＢＨ４／ｇ。用于不同酯化合物的还原，操作简便，树脂可再生重复使用。     

Co-catalyzed reductive cyclization of azido and cyano substituted α,β-unsaturated esters with NaBH4: enantioselective synthesis of (R)-baclofen and (R)-rolipram

Sodium borohydride in combination with a catalytic amount of CoCl₂ has been found to be an excellent catalytic system in reductive cyclizations of suitably substituted azido and cyano groups of α,β-unsaturated esters to afford γ and δ-lactams in high yields. The process has been demonstrated for the enantioselective synthesis of (R)-baclofen, (R)-rolipram, and (R)-4-fluorophenylpiperidinone, a key intermediate for (−)-paroxetine.     

Borohydride reduction of acetophenone and esters of dehydrocarboxylic acids in the presence of chiral cobalt(<Emphasis Type="SmallCaps">II</Emphasis>) diamine complexes

The catalytic reduction of acetophenone, methyl α-acetamidocinnamate, and dimethyl itaconate with alcohol-modified sodium borohydride was studied in the presence of complexes CoCl₂·L₂ (L₂ are chiral C ₂-symmetric diamines: (4S,5S)-2,2-dimethyl-4,5-bis(aminomethyl)-1,3-dioxolane, (4S, 5S)-2,2-dimethyl-4,5-bis(methylaminomethyl)-1,3-dioxolane, (4S, 5S)-2,2-dimethyl-4,5-bis(dimethylaminomethyl)-1,3-dioxolane, and (4S, 5S)-2,2-dimethyl-4,5-bis(diphenylaminomethyl)-1,3-dioxolane). The maximum enantiomeric excess of (S)-1-phenylethanol was 24%, that of dimethyl α-methylsuccinate was 38%.__________Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. Sodium Borohydride – Ammonium Carbonate: An Effective Reducing System for Aldehydes and Ketones

Summary. Reduction of aldehydes and ketones to the corresponding alcohols was achieved in a simple procedure using the system sodium borohydride and ammonium carbonate. This system needs lower excesses of reducing agent and leads to significantly shortened reaction times.     

镍电极开路电位测定微量硼氢根离子

实验采用循环伏安法，用镍电极代替铂铑等贵金属电极测定了碱性体系中不同硼氢根离子浓度下的开路电位，得出了研究电极的开路电位（-0．355～-0．280vs.SCE／V）与微量硼氢根离子浓度的对应关系，并用于监测电解偏硼酸钠制备硼氢化钠体系中微量硼氢根离子，同时计算了该方法的误差。结果表明，测量结果的相对标准偏差为2．2％；回收率为98．4％。该法简单、快速，可测定10^-5～10^-3mol／L范围的硼氢根离子浓度。
