Maximal σ‐polynomials of connected 3‐chromatic graphs

In the set of graphs of order n and chromatic number k the following partial order relation is defined. One says that a graph G is less than a graph H if c_i(G) ≤ c_i(H) holds for every i, k ≤ i ≤ n and at least one inequality is strict, where c_i(G) denotes the number of i‐color partitions of G. In this paper the first ? n/2 ? levels of the diagram of the partially ordered set of connected 3‐chromatic graphs of order n are described. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Stereoselective electrocatalytic cyclization of 3-substituted 2,2-dicyanocyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylic acid esters to form 6-substituted (1R,5R,6R)*-4,4-dialkoxy-5-cyano-2-oxo-3-azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-1-carboxylic acid esters

Electrolysis of 3-substituted 2,2-dicyanocyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylic acid esters in alcohols in an undivided cell in the presence of NaBr or NaOAc afforded 6-substituted (1R,5R, 6R)*-4,4-dialkoxy-5-cyano-2-oxo-3-azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-1-carboxylic acid esters in 80–95% yields. BIOMARKERS INDICATING SEDIMENTARY PALEOENVIRONMENTS

Samples involved in this paper are 35 pieces of crude oils and 43 pieces of source rocks, from which a series of biomarkers, capable of indicating paleoecology and paleoenvironment. This will provide a scientific basis for tracing back to sedimenta-y paleoenvironment and paleoecology.     

Unique Reactivity of a Diphenyldisilane Unit Incorporated into the Bicyclic Ring System: Generation of a Disilanyllithium via Silicon-Phenyl Bond Cleavage with Lithium

A bicyclic diphenyldisilane bearing two tetramethylene tethers reacts with lithium to form predominantly the disilanyllithium as a result of Si-C_Ph bond fission, while the pentamethylene homolog undergoes ordinary Si-Si bond cleavage to afford the expected phenylsilyllithium. The compressed Si-Si bond incorporated in the bicyclic ring system may be kinetically stabilized (compression effect), resulting in the unusual Si-C bond fission. When the reaction is carried out in the presence of chlorotrimethylsilane, a Calas-type reaction takes place on the phenyl rings. This result suggests that electron transfer to the phenyl group is the primary process in these bicyclic disilanes, followed by Si-Si or Si-C bond cleavage to afford the corresponding silyllithium species.     

Enantioselective synthesis of 1-deoxy-d-gulonojirimycin from a phenylglycinol-derived lactam

Cyclocondensation of (R)-phenylglycinol with appropriately γ-substituted δ-oxo acid derivatives provides bicyclic lactams from which the enantioselective synthesis of 1-deoxy-d-gulonojirimycin has been reported.

Synthesis of Tricyclic (λ5)-Phosphoranes; unusual N-demethylation/N-alkylation reactions during the oxidative addition of hexafluoroacetone and tetrachloro-ortho-benzoquinone to benzodiaza-λ3-phosphorinones. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies of various products

The reaction of methylisatoic acid anhydride 1 with benzylamines led to the N-benzyl-N′-methylanthranilamide derivatives 2 – 4 . Their reaction with phosphorus trichloride furnished the 2-chloro-1-halobenzyl/benzyl-3-methyl-4(1 H)-1,3,2-benzodiazaphosphorin-4-ones 5 – 7 which, upon reaction with bis-(2-chloroethyl)ammonium chloride/triethylamine, were converted into the P-bis-(2-chloroethyl)amino-1-halobenzyl/benzyl-3-methyl-4(1 H)-1,3,2-benzodiazaphosphorin-4-ones 8 – 10 and 12 . With 2-chloroethylammonium chloride/triethyl-amine the P? NHCH₂CH₂Cl-substituted compound 11 was obtained from the P^IIICl-species 6 . The reaction of 8 – 10 and 12 with hexafluoroacetone (HFA) took an unusual course: apart from the oxidative addition of HFA and formation of the perfluoropinacolyl ring system, one of the two CH₂CH₂Cl groups was found to alkylate the CH₃N atom with formation of a five-membered (diazaphospholane) ring in the tricyclic phosphoranes 13 – 16 . The reaction of 11 with HFA also produced a spirophosphorane 17 which involved a λ⁵-oxazaphosphetidine ring system. In the reaction of 8, 10 and 12 with tetrachloro-o-benzoquinone, an oxidative addition reaction with concomitant N-alkylation and formation of the tricyclic phosphoranes 18 – 20 was found to take place. Single crystal X-ray structure determinations are described for the phosphoranes 13, 14 and 16 , and for the precursor compound 9 . The following features are common to the isostructural compounds 13 and 16 and the diethyl ether hemisolvate of 14 : the (λ⁵)-spiro phosphorus atom lies out of the plane of the other atoms of the rings to which it is common, and the dioxaphospholane rings display a twist conformation. In the λ³P-compound 9 the phosphorus atom also lies out of the plane of the other ring atoms.     

Synthesis of chiral [5]helicenes using aromatic oxy-Cope rearrangement as a key step

Both enantiomers of (P)-(+)-2- and (M)-(−)-2-acetoxy-11,14-dimethyl[5]helicenes 8 were synthesized by asymmetric aromatic oxy-Cope rearrangement of the corresponding chiral bridged bicyclic compounds, which were obtained by enzymatic resolution. The absolute configurations of 8 were assigned by their circular dichroism spectra.     

Reinvestigation of the Nazarov cyclization of 1-(3-hydroxypropynyl)cyclododecan-1-ol to bicyclo[10.3.0]pentadec-1(12)-en-13-one

Reinvestigation of the acid-catalyzed cyclization of 1-(3-hydroxypropynyl)cyclododecan-1-ol under the conditions of the Nazarov reaction demonstrated that this conversion yields two isomeric bicyclic ketones, namely, bicyclo[10.3.0]pentadec-1(12)-en-13-one and bicyclo[10.3.0]pentadec-1-en-3-one.
