Prediction of critical temperature of n-alkanes and n-alkenes from surface tension vs. temperature data

 The surface tension versus temperature data of homologous series of n-alkanes and n-alkenes is analyzed. Critical temperatures are shown to be predicted from these data, with a very high precision, after some corrections are made. The corrections are shown to arise from the effect of the critical pressure on the extrapolated data to surface tension approaching zero. Received: 29 October 1996 Accepted: 13 December 1996     

Synthesis of β-phenyl-δ,ε-unsaturated amino acids and stereoselective introduction of side chain groups into [4,3,0]-bicyclic β-turn dipeptides

(2S,3S)- and (2R,3R)-2-amino-3-phenyl-5-hexenoic acids have been synthesized in large scale by using Ni(II)-complexes as a template. The amino acids were used in the synthesis of [4,3,0]-bicyclic β-turn mimetics by a convergent methodology. The unique advantage of this strategy is the convenience of introducing side chain groups with predetermined chiralities on both the five- and six-membered heterocyclic rings.     

Photooxidation of aryl alkanes by a decatungstate/triethylsilane system in the presence of molecular oxygen

Decatungstate photocatalyzes the oxidation of aryl alkanes to the corresponding tertiary hydroperoxides and alcohols, in the presence of molecular oxygen. The addition of triethylsilane to the reaction mixture substantially increases the proportion of hydroperoxide formed.     

Maximal σ‐polynomials of connected 3‐chromatic graphs

In the set of graphs of order n and chromatic number k the following partial order relation is defined. One says that a graph G is less than a graph H if c_i(G) ≤ c_i(H) holds for every i, k ≤ i ≤ n and at least one inequality is strict, where c_i(G) denotes the number of i‐color partitions of G. In this paper the first ? n/2 ? levels of the diagram of the partially ordered set of connected 3‐chromatic graphs of order n are described. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Stereoselective electrocatalytic cyclization of 3-substituted 2,2-dicyanocyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylic acid esters to form 6-substituted (1R,5R,6R)*-4,4-dialkoxy-5-cyano-2-oxo-3-azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-1-carboxylic acid esters

Electrolysis of 3-substituted 2,2-dicyanocyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylic acid esters in alcohols in an undivided cell in the presence of NaBr or NaOAc afforded 6-substituted (1R,5R, 6R)*-4,4-dialkoxy-5-cyano-2-oxo-3-azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-1-carboxylic acid esters in 80–95% yields. BIOMARKERS INDICATING SEDIMENTARY PALEOENVIRONMENTS

Samples involved in this paper are 35 pieces of crude oils and 43 pieces of source rocks, from which a series of biomarkers, capable of indicating paleoecology and paleoenvironment. This will provide a scientific basis for tracing back to sedimenta-y paleoenvironment and paleoecology.     

A novel stereocontrolled synthesis of enantiopure bicyclic lactams

A study on the reactivity of 3,4-dihydro-2-pyridones 9, derived from (S)-phenylglycinol, toward different bases is presented. Using a catalytic amount of bases, the cis bicyclic lactams were obtained with excellent diastereoselectivities.     

Crosslinked polystyrene with improved mechanical properties

The synthesis of some divinyl monomers—bis(vinylphenyl)ethane ( 2 ), bis(vinylbenzyloxy)hexane ( 3a ), and bis(vinylbenzyloxy)dodecane ( 3b ) is reported. Copolymers of the new monomers and styrene were evaluated as an alternative to divinylbenzene-crosslinked polymers for use as matrices and absorbents. The mechanical properties and the amount of residual double bonds in the copolymers were compared. It was found that the new copolymers, unlike the divinylbenzene-crosslinked polymers, retained their mechanical strength even at high crosslinking degrees. Stress at break values of 79, 68, and 18 N/mm² were found for the polymers crosslinked with 20 mol % of 3a, 2 , and divinylbenzene; 5, 25 and 45% of the divinyl units in these polymers were left as pendant double bonds. Porous styrene– 2 copolymers were synthesized and shown to have lower surface areas than the corresponding divinylbenzene-crosslinked polymers. The pore size distribution showed that this was due to the absence of the smallest pores which are found in the divinylbenzene-crosslinked polymers in between heavily crosslinked nodules. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Investigation of carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectra-structure correlation based on novel atomic distance-edge (ADE) vector

A set of novel graph-theoretical parameters,called the atomic distance-edge (ADE) vector,was developed.Based on the connecting C-C bond number between central carbon atom and the other ones,various carbon atoms of alkanes were classified as four types,i.e.,type 1,2,3 and 4 for primary,secondary,ternary and quaternary carbon,respectively; and then four regression equations were obtained to link carbon-13 chemical shift (CS) of each type of atoms.Furthermore,these regression models were used to predict the carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of alkanes and it was found that the estimated CS were in agreement with the experimental results.
