This paper describes a novel implementation of a dual-frequency liquid crystal optical shutter of the guest–host type. The transmissive state of the filter is obtained by applying a low-frequency electric field that brings the dichroic dye in a homeotropic orientation. The light-absorbing state is realised by a twisted planar configuration for which the absorption is quasi-independent of the polarisation. Switching between the two states occurs in about 1 ms and the devices show no scattering for wavelengths inside or outside the absorption band of the dichroic dye. Simulations and experiments reveal how a twisted state is obtained through the backflow phenomenon. 相似文献

Microfluidic CE (MCE) is an effective solution for rapid and sensitive determination of multiple analytes. Herein, a dynamic coated cyclic olefin copolymer microchip was developed having an on-chip micropump for fluid velocity adjusting in electrophoretic separations. This micropump was fabricated by constructing a polyacrylamide gel membrane at one channel terminal. Once applying electric field across the membrane, a pressure-driven flow generated automatically to balance the electroosmotic flow (EOF) mismatch at the channel-membrane interface. The influence of gel precursor concentration and operating voltages on the fluid velocity was carefully evaluated. Moreover, the highly integration of injection, separation, and pumping units of the MCE system minimized the dead volume and provides satisfied column efficiency. Experiments showed that by adjusting of pumping voltage reduced the fluid velocity by a factor of 6, resulting six- and threefold resolving power enhancements of rhodamine dye mixture and amino acid mixture, respectively. Furthermore, the developed MCE method was applied for rhodamines and amino acids quantitation in food and cosmetics, with standard addition recoveries of 87.3–106.9% and 89.9–117.4%, respectively. These results were also confirmed by standard HPLC method, revealing the application potential in fast and onsite analysis of complex samples. 相似文献

We report on chiral-nematic mixtures containing viscous chiral dopants, composed of rigid rod-like chiral molecules, in order to solve the problem of backflow in the middle layers of the liquid crystal cells. During the study, the viscoelastic properties of the liquid crystal compositions have been optimised, as well as the helical twisting power of the chiral compounds, the anchoring energy and the pre-tilt angle of alignment materials, the ratio between the cell gap and the helical pitch (d/P0). After optimisation, we prepared test cells with low operating voltage – from 1.5 till 5.0 V, fast response time (τon + τoff) – less than 1 ms, wide operating temperature range from ?40°C till +100°C, and good thermal stability. It should be noted that the response time of the new electro-optical mode does not strongly depend on the cell gap, which is in contrast to other known operating modes. We have achieved rather linear than quadratic dependence of the response time when changing the thickness of the cell. 相似文献

Our results has shown that both overshooting and backflow are observed in the case of subdiffusion. 建立了离子发动机羽流的物理模型,采用粒子网格对羽流中的交换电荷离子的分布进行了模拟,电场方程使用完全近似格式的代数多重网格方法求解。利用计算设备统一架构技术开发出一套基于图形处理器的3维并行粒子模拟程序。计算结果表明,交换电荷离子在径向扩张型电势结构下会向束流区外运动,一部分交换离子在电场力作用下会向发动机上游运动,从而形成返流。发动机上游区域的交换电荷数密度与束流等离子体数密度相比降低了3~4个数量级。通过降低电子温度可有效降低返流电流。 相似文献

National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) designed a shrinking-bed reactor to maintain a constant bulk packing density of
cellulosic biomass. The high solid-to-liquid ratio in the pretreatment process allows a high sugar yield and avoids the need
to flush large volumes of solution through the reactor. To scale up the shrinking-bed reactor, NREL investigated a pilot-scale
screw conveyor reactor in which an interrupted flight between screws was employed to mimic the “shrinking-bed” effect. In
the experiments with the screw conveyor reactor, overmixing and uneven flow occurred. These phenomena produce negative effects
on biomass hydrolysis. The flow behavior inside the reactor was analyzed to allow redesign of the screw to achieve adequate
mixing and even flow. In the present study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was utilized to simulate the fluid flow in
the porous media, and a new screw design was proposed. CFD analysis performed on the redesigned reactor indicated that an

We report the dielectric relaxation behaviour in the antiferroelectric SmCA* and ferrielectric SmCγ* phases of the antiferroelectric liquid crystal 4-[5-(4-octloxyphenyl)-2-pyrimidinyl]phenyl 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-(methoxyphenyl)butanoate which shows an antiferroelectric transition at around 88±0.1°C. In the SmCA* phase, two dielectric relaxation modes have been found, namely the usual antiferroelectric Goldstone mode and another arising from molecular rotation around its short axis. In the SmCγ* phase, one dielectric relaxation mode has been observed due to the ferrielectric Goldstone mode. Dielectric increments and relaxation frequencies of the antiferroelectric and ferrielectric phases are estimated from the fits of the Cole–Cole function of the dielectric spectrum. The dependence of the bias field in the ferrielectric phase is also discussed. 相似文献

以小分子液晶Leslie-Ericksen理论为基础,建立液晶盒上基片游离状态的计算模型,在给出边界初始条件的基础上,运用二阶Runge-Kutta(龙格-库塔)法与中心差分法对方程组进行时空离散,通过MATLAB编写计算程序,调整计算参数得出液晶盒厚度、液晶盒两端所施加电场参数对液晶引流的影响.结果表明:液晶指向矢的大小随液晶盒上下基板所施加电场的交变而交变,并引起液晶引流速度大小交变;随着液晶盒厚度的增加,液晶盒上基片在一个周期内移动的位移也在增加;液晶盒两端所施加电场的占空比基本上不影响液晶盒上基片速度的大小,对液晶盒上基片速度最大值出现的时间点影响很大;通过与实验数据相对比,液晶盒上基片位移数值大小在同一个数量级,运动轨迹比较吻合. 相似文献
