The aim of this study was to develop an analytical method to determine the organochlorine concentrations in sediments. Combination of Microwave assisted Solvent Extraction (MASE) and capillary gas chromatography with specific detection (electron capture detector) was a viable approach for the determination of pesticides in solid matrixes. In this study, MASE development was focused on the selection of a suitable extraction solvent for all the target analytes. MASE procedure was validated by comparison with conventional methods such as Soxhlet and sonication extraction. The proposed method was then applied to determine the organochlorine insecticides concentrations in samples from Authie Bay (France). Environmental water samples were analysed and five target analytes were detected in concentrations from 0.03 to 0.56 ng/g of dry sediment. These investigations showed the accumulation and the persistency of these products in sediments in spite of the fact they were banned a few decades ago.  相似文献

The rivers in the Hungarian Upper Tisza Region are frequently polluted mainly due to mining activities in the catchment area. At the beginning of 2000, two major mining accidents occurred in the Romanian part of the catchment area due to the failure of a tailings dam releasing huge amounts of cyanide and heavy metals to the rivers. Surface sediment as well as water samples were collected at six sites in the years 2000–2003, from the northeast-Hungarian section of the Tisza, Szamos and Túr rivers. The sediment pollution of the rivers was compared based on measurements of bulk material and selected single particles, in order to relate the observed compositions and chemical states of metals to the possible sources and weathering of pollution. Non-destructive X-ray analytical methods were applied in order to obtain different kinds of information from the same samples or particles. In order to identify the pollution sources, their magnitude and fate, complementary analyses were carried out. Heterogeneous particulate samples were analyzed from a large geographical territory and a 4-year time period. Individual particles were analyzed only from the “hot” samples that showed elevated concentrations of heavy metals. Particles that were classified as anthropogenic were finally analyzed to identify trace concentrations and chemical states of heavy metals.  相似文献

The presence of vinclozolin in the environment as far as the endocrine disruption effects in biota are concerned has raised interest in the environmental fate of this compound. In this respect, the present study attempts to investigate the feasibility of applying a novel quantitative method, liquid-phase microextraction (LPME), so as to determine this environmental andiandrogen in environmental samples such as water and sediment samples. The technique involved the use of a small amount (3 microL) of organic solvent impregnated in a hollow fiber membrane, which was attached to the needle of a conventional GC syringe. The extracted samples were analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with electron-capture detection. Experimental LPME conditions such as extraction solvent, stirring rate, content of NaCl and pH were tested. Once LPME was optimized, the performance of the proposed technique was evaluated for the determination of vinclozolin in different types of natural water samples. The recovery of spiked water samples was from 80 to 99%. The procedure was adequate for quantification of vinclozolin in waters at levels of 0.010 to 50 microg/L (r> 0.994) with a detection limit of 0.001 microg/L (S/N= 3). Natural sediment samples from the Aliakmonas River area (Macedonia, Greece) spiked with the target andiandrogen compound were liquid-liquid extracted and analyzed by the methodology developed in this work. No significant interferences from the samples matrix were noticed, indicating that the reported methodology is an innovative tactic for sample preparation in sediment analysis, with a considerable improvement in the achieved detection limits. The results demonstrated that apart from analyte enrichment, the proposed LPME procedure also serves as clean-up method and could be successfully performed to determine trace amounts of vinclozolin in water and sediment samples.  相似文献

The effects of ultrasonication on the leaching of trace metals form sediments as a function of pH have been investigated using atomic absorption spectrometry. Cu, Pb, Ni, Zn and Mn were leached from sediments by ultrasonic effect using phthalate buffers at pH values of 2.2-6.0. Parameters influencing leaching, such as leaching time, solution matrix, wet or dry sample and final pH were evaluated. Results from ultrasonic leaching experiments were comparable to those of conventional procedure. In addition, this ultrasonic-assisted leaching method reduces the time required for conventional method approximately from 12 h to 25 min. Depending on the metal and sample type, metal removal increased linearly or exponentially with decreasing pH. The accuracy of the method was tested by comparing obtained results with this of conventional method. The average relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) of ultrasonic-assisted leaching method (ULM) varied between 1.71 and 3.00% for N = 36, depending on the analyte. This technique shows promise for studying chemical and biological availability and uptake/release processes for metals in sediment and soil as a function of pH.  相似文献

In this paper we present an alternative method for detection of meat and bone meal (MBM) in feedstuffs by near-infrared microscopic (NIRM) analysis of the particles in the sediment fraction (dense fraction (d >1.62) from dichloroethylene) of compound feeds. To apply this method the particles of the sediment fraction are spread on a sample holder and presented to the NIR microscope. By using the pointer of the microscope the infrared beam is focussed on each particle and the NIR spectrum (1112–2500 nm) is collected. This method can be used to detect the presence of MBM at concentrations as low as 0.05% mass fraction. When results from the NIRM method were compared with the classical microscopic method, a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.87 was obtained. The results of this study demonstrated that this method could be proposed as a complementary tool for the detection of banned MBM in feedstuffs by reinforcement of the monitoring of feeds.  相似文献

A method based on selective pressurized liquid extraction (SPLE) followed by gas chromatography–negative ion chemical ionization-mass spectrometry (GC–NCI-MS) has been evaluated for analysis of decabromodiphenyl ether (PBDE-209) in sediment samples. Instrumental operating conditions such as source temperature and system pressure were optimized in the NCI-MS system, giving an instrumental detection limit of 2 pg. The limit of determination of the entire SPLE–GC–NCI-MS procedure was around 50 pg g–1 dry weight (dw), with repeatability of replicates between 4 and 21% relative standard deviation. Application of the method to 13 different river and marine sediment samples collected in Spain revealed that levels of decabromodiphenyl ether ranged between 2 and 132 ng g–1 dry weight.  相似文献

Pressurized liquid extractions were performed on eight sediments in order to investigate if a modified US EPA method (100 °C, 100 bar, n-heptane/acetone (1:1), 2 × 5 min) provided exhaustive extractions of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from sediment, and to study if the extractability of PCBs from the different sediments was affected by characteristics of the sediment. The recovery from the eight native sediments, contaminated in nature, was between 96.4% and 98.9%, as an average of the recoveries from 10 PCB congeners. Hundred percent recovery was defined as the sum of two consecutive extractions (2 × 5 min each) at the stated conditions. The recoveries of the individual congeners were above 94%, except for one congener in one sediment, which had a recovery of 92%. When the recoveries and different characteristics of the sediments were compared, no correlation appeared between recoveries and sediment PCB concentration, total organic carbon (TOC), soot carbon (SC) or amorphous carbon (AC). The fact that carbon did not influence the extractions was somewhat surprising, since previous experiments have indicated a connection. Instead, statistically significant (p < 0.05) correlations were observed for water content and carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio. The decrease in recoveries with decreased water content was attributed to less access of the solvent to the analytes due to less matrix swelling. The lowered recoveries with increased C/N ratio can indicate that a difference in structure of the organic matter exists, which influences the binding strength between the analytes and the matrix. The difference in structure can possibly be explained by different origin of the organic matter or by aging effects. Overall the method was found to be exhaustive and the excellent recoveries show that sediment characteristics do not influence the extractions markedly.  相似文献

Sediment records of Sb and Pb stable isotopic ratios in Lake Qinghai   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A sediment core in Lake Qinghai in northwest China was collected in 2006. 137Cs and 210Pb activities were analyzed to investigate the chronology of the sediment core. Sb and Pb concentrations, and Pb stable isotopic ratios were analyzed to study the historical atmospheric deposition records and sources of Sb over the past 15 centuries. The Sb concentration was 4.21 ± 1.52 μg/g in the sediments, its vertical distribution of Sb shows three large peaks in the recent two centuries, 1799, 1896 and 1944, coincided with Sb contamination from large wars, respectively. The peak in 1920 responded the large earthquake that happened in northern China, which was not far away from Lake Qinghai. The Sb/Pb ratio, 206Pb/207Pb and 208Pb/206Pb results suggest that Sb and Pb were probably from the ores in South China and coals in North China before 1965, but obviously from uses of leaded gasoline after 1965.  相似文献

A simple and reliable method for the determination of arsenic in sediment and in coal without sample digestion, based on hydride generation from slurry samples is proposed. After grinding the samples to a particle size of 50 μm, the sample powder was mixed with aqua regia and hydrofluoric acid in an ultrasonic bath for 30 min. After diluting the mixture with hydrochloric acid, the slurry was allowed to stand for 48 h, and an aliquot was used for hydride generation with sodium borohydride. More than 80% of the arsenic was leached to the aqueous phase under these conditions, except for one sediment sample with very high silica content. The generated arsine was collected in a graphite tube, treated with 0.5 mg of iridium as a permanent modifier, and the arsenic determination was carried out by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. The same tube could be used for at least 160 cycles without any re-treatment. The greatest advantage of the method was that only a minimum of reagents and sample handling were required, reducing the risks of contamination and/or analyte loss. However, the addition calibration technique had to be used in order to obtain results within the 95% confidence level for 11 certified reference materials, 5 sediments, 5 coals and one coal fly ash. One certified sediment slurry was spiked with the analyte and the resulting addition calibration curve was used for the analysis of the certified sediments. Similarly, one certified coal was used to obtain the addition calibration curve for the coal and coal fly ash samples. The recoveries of the certified values, except for one sediment, were between 91 and 115%. The limits of detection in the samples were 0.54 and 0.7 μg g−1 for the coal and sediment samples, respectively, obtained for 1 ml of slurry containing 1 mg of sample.  相似文献

The method employing molecularly imprinted polymers for the extraction and clean up of endocrine‐disrupting compounds (estrogens, bisphenol A, and alkylphenols) from water and sediment is described. The identical extraction/clean‐up and LC‐MS/MS condition were used for the analysis of both types of samples. The method showed high recoveries ranging from 90 to 99% with excellent precision (intrabatch: 3.6–9.3%; interbatch: 5.6–11.4% for water; intrabatch: 4.3–8.5%; interbatch: 6.1–9.6% for sediment). The LOD was in the range of 0.7–1.9 ng/L and 0.3–0.6 ng/g for water and sediment, respectively. Overall extraction on molecularly imprinted polymers substantially enhanced sample clean‐up. The difference in efficiency of clean‐up was particularly pronounced when a large sample volume/weight was extracted and analyzed. Finally, the method was successfully applied for the analysis of 20 water and sediment samples.  相似文献
