Blends of recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate) (R-PET) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) were compatibilized with poly(styrene-ethylene/butyldiene-styrene) (SEBS) and maleic anhydride-grafted poly(styrene-ethylene/butyldiene-styrene) (SEBS-g-MA). Effects of compatilizer were evaluated systematically by study of mechanical, thermal and morphology properties together with crystallization behavior of PET. Tensile properties of the blends were improved effectively by the addition of 10 wt% SEBS-g-MA, elongation at break and charpy impact strength were increased with the increasing content of compatilizer. SEBS-g-MA is more effectual on mechanical properties of R-PET/LLDPE blends than SEBS. DSC analysis illustrates crystallinities of PET and LLDPE were increased by compatilizer at annealing condition. WAXD and FT-IR spectra show that annealing influences crystallization behavior of PET. Different compatilizer content results in different morphology structure, in particular, higher SEBS-g-MA content can induce the formation of a salami microstructure.  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP) is one of the most common plastics used in the manufacturing of lead-acid battery cases, where the recycling of the material has become common practice, being both economically viable and environmentally friendly. During the recycling process, the various components of the spent battery are separated, where the crushed battery case is washed in order to remove any excess acid and lead-containing particles. The plastic components are subsequently melted and extruded into pellets that are then blended with virgin material to injection mold new battery cases and lids. This study showed that a significant amount of lead-containing particles in the form of lead dioxide and lead sulfate remain in the recycled plastic, and are evenly distributed throughout the polymer matrix. TEM studies showed that the particles are less than 1 μm in size and X-ray diffraction analysis of ashed recycled PP samples showed the presence, amongst others, of talc, calcium carbonate, rutile and iron oxide. These compounds come from a range of fillers, flame-retardants, colorants and impurities that originated from the various original battery cases that were recycled. The study showed that modern X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis is a quick and reliable method to quantify the amount of the elements found in the plastic and that the concentration of Pb in the plastic can be used as a type of “tracer” to determine the amount of recycled PP used in the manufacturing of a particular battery case. The study also showed that there is possible environmental contamination, in particular with Pb and Br contained in recycled PP during the injection molding process and the burning of the plastic. The Pb- and Br-containing particles are small enough to become air-borne during the burning process of the plastic, resulting in them being part of the soot and other hydrocarbon oils that are emitted. No Pb was observed in the gases emitted during simulated low-temperature injection molding conditions; however, a significant amount of Br was detected in the gases at the lower temperatures. Clear environmental waste classification of the battery case plastic should be done before its final incineration where the amount of trace metals present and its possible contamination to the environment should be considered. Care should also be taken for machine operators who work with the recycled plastic, that no excessive exposure to the halogenated compounds is experienced.  相似文献

This paper deals with the study of volatile compounds present in a set of three paper and board (P&B) samples of different composition, surface treatment, grammage and thickness. The volatile compounds released by the packaging material (P&B) can be trapped on the food and may then affect the safety and health of consumers. To evaluate if the recycled P&B could be used as food packaging material, adsorption studies have been performed with a selection of chemical substances. The adsorption isotherms are provided. Partition coefficients between paper and air have been calculated for a series of volatile compounds used as model compounds to represent different families of contaminants commonly present in P&B. Values from 4 to 3243 were obtained at different temperatures. The analysis of volatile compounds have been carried out by automatic headspace coupled on-line with GC/MS in SIM mode. The results obtained are shown and discussed.  相似文献

The recovery of plastic waste but also its applicability in product development may be an incentive to industry, since the use of such plastics represents a cheaper source of raw material. The aim of the present paper is to study the feasibility of recycling polyolefins as additives to improve the rheological properties of lithium 12-hydroxystearate lubricating greases. The effects that both soap and recycled low-density polyethylene (LDPE) concentration exert on the rheology of lithium lubricating greases and its relationship with grease microstructure are discussed in this work. In this way, different lubricating grease formulations were manufactured by modifying the concentration of lithium 12-hydroxystearate and content of recycled LDPE, according to a RSM statistical design. These lubricating greases were rheologically characterized through small-amplitude oscillatory shear (SAOS) and viscous flow measurements. In addition to these, scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) observations and mechanical stability tests were also carried out. Recycled LDPE was found to be an effective additive to modify grease rheology, acting as filler in the soap entangled microstructure. The values of both apparent viscosity and viscoelastic functions in the linear viscoelastic region increase with soap and recycled polymer concentrations. However, the addition of recycled LDPE distort the microstructural network of these greases resulting greases with less relative elastic characteristics and poorer mechanical properties as LDPE content increases.  相似文献

Recycling of mixed plastic wastes composed of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) matrix and polypropylene (PP) was carried out by compounding using single-screw or twin-screw extruders. Blends of virgin polymers have been prepared to compare mechanical properties of both virgin and regenerated materials. First, a model composition of virgin LDPE/PP blend was prepared to study the effect of process parameters and that of different types of compatibilizers. Second, the results were applied to plastic wastes coming from industrial post-consumer plastic wastes. By adding compatibilizing agents such as ethylene-propylene-diene monomer, ethylene-propylene monomer, or PE-g-(2-methyl-1,3-butadiene) graft copolymer, elongation at break and impact strength were improved for all blends. The effect of these various copolymers is quite different and is in relation with their chemical structure. The recycled blends exhibit suitable properties leading to applications that require good mechanical properties.  相似文献

The composition and ultrastructural arrangement of cell wall polymers in wood fibres have determining influence on the properties of wood derived materials. It is therefore important to improve our understanding of the relationship between fibres organisation, the modifications induced by pulping treatments, and the resulting paper sheet mechanical properties. The different treatments to which fibres are subjected during the manufacturing of pulps and papers induce morphological and micro-structural alterations due to the removal of wall constituents and of microfibrillar elements. The impact of pulping processes on fibres was investigated at the ultrastructural scale of transmission electron microscopy. Particular attention was given to the effects of beating in refiners at various intensities on the ultrastructure of fibres. The most characteristic effects consisted of delaminations, microfibril disorganisation, and even fractures, of varying importance depending on the intensity of the mechanical refining. The consequences of internal alterations and surface modifications of the fibres were examined in relation to the paper sheet mechanical properties. Correlations between the type of alteration observed in the fibres and its possible impact on a given paper mechanical property are suggested. With similar approaches, the effects of drying and recycling were studied.  相似文献

The present study investigated the effects of two types of natural rubber and different blend ratios on the cure, tensile properties and morphology of natural rubber/recycled chloroprene rubber blends. The blends of natural rubber/recycled chloroprene rubber were prepared by using laboratory two-roll mill. The result showed that the cure time prolonged with the addition of recycled chloroprene rubber (rCR). Comparability, natural rubber/recycled chloroprene rubber (SMR L/rCR) blendcured rapidly than epoxidized natural rubber/recycled chloroprene rubber (ENR 50/rCR) blend. The addition of rCRalso caused a decrement in the tensile strength and elongation at break for both rubber blends. The SMR L/rCR blendsshowed higher tensile strength and elongation at break compared to those of ENR 50/rCR blends at any blend ratios.  相似文献

This study looked at establishing a correlation between the variable melt flow index (VMFI) values of molten polypropylene (PP) with different piston-load masses using a standard MFI analyser. The study was done using virgin PP and recycled PP obtained from recycling Pb-acid batteries. The study showed that the results would fit a suitable power function equation where the size of the exponent reflects the increase in flow characteristics of the polymer with increased piston-load mass. The established correlation was then compared to the average molecular weight distribution of virgin PP determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Good agreement was obtained for the range of grades of virgin PP samples that correlated well with the Mark-Houwink power law where the inverse of the MFI (1/MFI) would be proportional to the average molecular weight to the power of 3.4 (Mw3.4). GPC analysis cannot be effectively used to study recycled PP, where a number of factors can influence the melt flow properties such as fillers, impurities and the presence of polyethylene in the polymer matrix. Instead, a comparative understanding of the flow behaviour of recycled PP to that of virgin PP was done by using the VMFI method to possibly show the dissimilar polymer melt flow behaviour of using virgin and recycled PP material in injection moulding of new battery cases and lids, or when attempting to seal the lid to the battery case during manufacturing.  相似文献

This article deals with blends based on natural rubber (NR) and recycled ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (R-EPDM). Natural rubber latex (NRL) was introduced into the blends to enhance interfacial adhesion between NR and R-EPDM. A new route of compounding was also suggested. The blends were prepared by mixing R-EPDM and other additives in NRL before blending with natural rubber on a two-roll mill. By applying this method, the homogeneity of the blends and cross-linking distribution are significantly improved. The blends exhibited superior state of cure, swelling resistance, mechanical properties and dynamic mechanical properties. The degree of entanglement between NR and R-EPDM also increased after NRL modification.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of cellulose and/or lignin on the properties of mats prepared from dissolution (for 48 h or 72 h, solvent: trifluoroacetic acid) of recycled poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET). Briefly, the presence of cellulose led to a tendency of higher average fiber diameter and average pore area as well as lower average porosity compared to the neat mat (PETref, 242 ± 59 nm, 9.6 ± 1.1 104 nm2 and 19.0 ± 1.1%, respectively). The Tg values for electrospun PET combined with cellulose and/or lignin were higher than that of PETref (92.5 ± 0.1 °C), and the tensile strength increased with the cellulose and/or lignin loading. In addition, the presence of lignin (72 h of dissolution) led to a mat with an elongation at break of 149 ± 9% compared to 14 ± 2% for PETref. The results indicated that the properties of mats based on PET can be tuned by adding cellulose and/or lignin to solutions posteriorly electrospun as well as by varying the dissolution time.  相似文献
