Highly diastereoselective multicomponent synthesis of polysubstituted 2-hydroxy-2-trifluoromethylpiperidineswith four and five stereogenic centers

The Michael–Mannich cascade cyclization of cyano olefins, ethyl 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-oxobutanoate, aromatic aldehydes and ammonium acetate provides convenient stereoselective formation of ethyl 5,5-dicyano-4,6-diaryl-2-hydroxy-2-(trifluoromethyl)piperidine-3-carboxylates with fourstereogenic centers and dialkyl 4,6-diaryl-5-cyano-2-hydroxy-2-(trifluoromethyl)piperidine-3,5-dicarboxylates with five stereogenic centers. Ammonium acetate plays dual role, acting as a base and as a nitrogen source.     

Fast and efficient preparation of Baylis-Hillman-derived (E)-allylic azides and related compounds in aqueous medium

A practical access to alkyl- and aryl-substituted (E)-2-(azidomethyl)alkenoates and related azido compounds from the corresponding allylic bromides in aqueous acetone is described. An alternative method to obtain the starting bromides based on heterogeneous catalysis under mild conditions was also investigated.     

Synthesis and characterization of guar gum‐graft‐polyacrylonitrile

Cerium(IV) mediated grafting of polyacrylonitrile on to guar gum was studied. Grafting parameters were studied gravimetrically, as a function of temperature, initiator concentration and Guar to acrylonitrile ratio. Higher temperatures resulted in higher monomer conversion and homopolymer formation. Both monomer conversion and extent of grafting increased with increase in cerium ion concentration in the range studied (0.91–9.12 mmol/l). Similar results were obtained with increase in monomer to guar gum ratio from 1 to 5. Grafting with this initiator was found to be generally good with high grafting efficiencies and low homopolymer formation for most experiments. The copolymers obtained were subjected to alkaline hydrolysis to convert nitrile groups in to carboxylic acid groups and the water absorbency of the resulting anionic guar gum was studied. Vibrational spectra of (NH4)3ZnCl5

IR and Raman spectra of (NH₄)₃ZnCl₅ have been recorded. The observed spectra have been analysed on the basis of the vibrations of ZnCl ₄ ²⁻ and NH ₄ ⁺ ions. The appearance of multiple Raman bands indicates the presence of two different types of ammonium ions. The effect of anisotropic crystalline field over the ZnCl₄ and NH₄ tetrahedra is also discussed. The assignment of internal modes has been verified by the potential energy distribution calculations.

Solid-phase oxidative halodecarboxylation of β-arylacrylic acids with the ceric ammonium nitrate—alkali halide system

The solid-phase oxidation of cinnamic, 4-methoxy- and 3,4-dimethoxycinnamic acids with Ce(NH₄)₂(NO₃)₆—MHal system leads to β-halostyrenes. Similar procedure in the absence of a metal halide results in a cleavage of the C=C bond giving the corresponding benzaldehydes. Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. 高分子阳离子絮凝剂用于炼油废水处理研究

用聚二甲基二烯丙基氯化铵型高分子阳离子絮凝剂处理炼油废水考察了险油和化学耗氧量的动态变化规律。对产生的浮渣性质及滤饼的成份进行了研究。并且与聚合铝的处理效果进行对照。研究结果表明，ＨＣＡ除油和化学耗管氧量的性能优于ＰＡＣ，ＨＣＡ产生的浮渣是ＰＡＣ的三分之一，而浮渣中的含油量则是ＰＡＣ的三倍。     

Partial molal heat capacities of aqueous tetraalkylammonium bromides as functions of temperature

Enthalpies of solution have been measured from 5 to 85°C for aqueous tetraethyl- and tetrapropylammonium bromides, and the integral heat method is employed to evaluate for these electrolytes over a wide temperature range. Data taken from the literature have been used to evaluate for aqueous Bu₄NBr over a similar temperature range. These data, along with similar data for Me₄NBr, previously reported, have been used to evaluate absolute ionic heat capacities. While the absolute values agree only qualitatively with two other methods of division, the temperature dependences of the three methods essentially agree up to 65°C. Heat capacities due to structural effects on the solvent, obtained by subtracting the inherent heat capacities of the ions, are extraordinarily positive for all four tetraalkylammonium ions and have negative temperature coefficients, indicating that all four ions, including the tetramethylammonium ion, are structure-making ions.     

Recyclable,non-leaching antimicrobial magnetic nanoparticles

Recyclable antimicrobial magnetic nanoparticles, Fe₃O₄@P(St-co-AcQAC), were prepared through surfactantfree seeded emulsion polymerization involving a polymerizable, hydrophobic quaternary ammonium compound (QAC). These antimicrobial magnetic nanoparticles demonstrated excellent antimicrobial activities against both Grampositive and Gram-negative bacteria, and can be reused for multiple times.
