The glycosides of volatile compounds and the essential oil were isolated from wild Mentha longifolia. After the enzymatic hydrolysis of glycosides, fourteen volatile aglycones were identified by GC/MS. The main aglycones were eugenol, 2-phenylethanol, benzyl alcohol, lavandulol, trans- and cis-carveol, 3-octanol, and 3-hexen-1-ol. The content of aglycones was 40.85 mg kg-1 of dried plant material. The main components of the essential oil (yield 0.93 w/w) were carvone, piperitenone oxide, limonene, and -caryophyllene. Eugenol, carveol, 3-octanol, and -terpineol were identified in the aglycones and in the essential oil.  相似文献

Pectinic substances from the aerial part of Mentha x piperita were isolated and characterized and found to be a mixture of β-(1→4)-glucogalactan (MPG) and two α-(1→4)-rhamnopolygalacturonans (MPP′-1 and MPP′-2). It was shown that the pectin and its components exhibited membrane-stabilizing, antiatherogenic, and antioxidant activity. The dependence of Mentha pulegium L. (pennyroyal) essential oil composition, obtained by supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2), with the following parameters: pressure, temperature, extraction time (dynamic), and modifier (methanol) was studied. The results were also compared with those obtained by conventional hydrodistillation method in laboratory conditions. Regarding the percentages of menthone (30.3%) and pulegone (52.0%), the optimum SFE results were obtained at the following experimental conditions: pressure=100 atm, T=35 °C, dynamic time=10 min, and Vmodifier=0 μl. The results of hydrodistillation showed that the major components of M. pulegium L. were pulegone (37.8%), menthone (20.3%), and piperitenone (6.8%). The evaluation of the composition of each extract was performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.  相似文献

Summary The effect of drying conditions on the preservation of chlorophyll pigments in mint and basil have been investigated in order to determine the effects of drying temperature and whether or not there was a prior blanching.Pigments extracted from fresh and dried samples were analyzed by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography coupled to a photodiode array detector; isocratic separation was performed on a Zorbax ODS C18 column.The purity of the chromatographic peaks of chlorophylls and breakdown products was investigated. The visible spectra of standard samples of chlorophylls and pheophytins were compared, using least squares normalization with those of peaks from the extracts of fresh and dried mint and basil. The study has shown that chlorophylls were better preserved when drying was preceded by a short blanching; if samples were not blanched before drying, the degradation of chlorophylls a and b was best prevented by drying at low temperatures.  相似文献

The 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition of 4‐chlorobenzonitrile oxide to the unsaturated system of (?)‐(R)‐carvone occurred exclusively at C(8) to give a new isoxazoline derivative. This derivative reacts with NH2OH to yield a new heterocycle, observed for the first time. On the other hand, the addition of 4‐chlorobenzonitrile oxide to the unsaturated lactone (?)‐4aα,7α,7aβ‐nepetalactone gave, in a good yield, also a new heterocycle, again obtained for the first time. The terpenoid (?)‐(R)‐carvone and iridoid (?)‐4aα,7α,7aβ‐nepetalactone were isolated from Moroccan species Mentha viridis (L.) and Nepeta tuberosa (L.), respectively. The new heterocycles obtained were identified by combination of chromatographic and spectroscopic methods.  相似文献

A method has been developed for the quantitative elemental analysis of Mentha longifolia L. leaves collected from different cities in Saudi Arabia using total reflection X-ray fluorescence. Using a microwave digestion system, 100?mg of each sample was completely digested using 3?mL of nitric acid and 2?mL of hydrogen peroxide. The stabilization of the digested samples on the silicon reflectors was studied using a silicone solution and polyvinyl alcohol. 5?µL of either silicone solution or polyvinyl alcohol (1% m/v) was pipetted and dried on the silicon reflector prior to the deposition of the digested samples. It was recognized that there is some enhancement on the intensity of the peak area with the silicone solution at photon energies less than 11?keV. However, the obtained results confirm the ability of using silicone solution or polyvinyl alcohol (1% m/v) as the stabilizer prior to the deposition of the sample droplet on the quartz reflector. However, the silicone solution was more applicable. Based on the developed method, 15 elements were quantified, namely, P, S, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Br, Rb, Sr, and Ba. Based on the present quantitative analysis results, M. longifolia samples collected from Al-Madina city had the highest concentration of P, Cl, K, Ti, Fe, Ni, and Cu. The lowest concentrations of P, S, Cl, K, Mn, Ni, and Br were found in Taif-Shafa.  相似文献

Mentha is an aromatic plant used since antiquity for its pharmaceutical virtues. The climate of Saudi Arabia favors the growth of aromatic plants including Mentha suaveolens L. The aim of this study is to analyze the volatile oils of different parts of fresh and dried Mentha suaveolens L. grown in Saudi Arabia (Aljouf area) using Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) and Gas Chromatography Flame Ionization Detector (GC/FID) techniques, to recognize the effect of drying on chemical composition, then to evaluate the antioxidant and antifungal activities of different extracts. In total, 118 compounds were identified via GC/MS and GC/FID, in which carvone is the main volatile constituent (stems, leaves, whole plant 45–64%). This investigation deduces that Mentha belonged to the carvone chemotype. Then, the analysis of non-volatile constituents of fresh and dried Mentha was performed by HPLC. The main phenolic compound of fresh and dried Mentha for different parts was rosmarinic acid (ranging from 28,002.5 to 6558 µg/g). The ethanolic extract of fresh stem showed the highest antifungal activity (53% inhibition) compared with miconazole (60% inhibition) but the ethanoic extract of dry stem showed no activity. Additionally, all ethanolic extracts, whether for fresh or dry Mentha, have antioxidant activity more than 90% while the antioxidant activity of whole plant volatile oil is equal to 53.33%. This research shows that M. suaveolens L. could be applied to manufacture natural antioxidants, antifungal, and flavoring agents.  相似文献

Colorectal cancer is one of the most frequently diagnosed forms of cancer, and the therapeutic solutions are frequently aggressive requiring improvements. Essential oils (EOs) are secondary metabolites of aromatic plants with important pharmacological properties that proved to be beneficial in multiple pathologies including cancer. Mentha piperita L. (M_EO) and Rosmarinus officinalis L. (R_EO) essential oils are well-known for their biological effects (antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic in different cancer cells), but their potential as complementary treatment in colorectal cancer is underexplored. The aim of the present study was to investigate the M_EO and R_EO in terms of chemical composition, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and cytotoxic effects in a colorectal cancer cell line—HCT 116. The gas-chromatographic analysis revealed menthone and menthol, and eucalyptol, α-pinene and L-camphor as major compounds in M_EO and R_EO respectively. M_EO exhibited potent antimicrobial activity, moderate antioxidant activity and a low cytotoxic effect in HCT 116 cells. R_EO presented a significant cytotoxicity in colorectal cancer cells and a low antimicrobial effect. The cytotoxic effect on non-cancerous cell line HaCaT was not significant for both essential oils. These results may provide an experimental basis for further research concerning the potential use of M_EO and R_EO for anticancer treatment.  相似文献
