Retracted: The Manganese(I)-Catalyzed Asymmetric Transfer Hydrogenation of Ketones: Disclosing the Macrocylic Privilege

The bis(carbonyl) manganese(I) complex [Mn(CO)₂( 1 )]Br ( 2 ) with a chiral (NH)₂P₂ macrocyclic ligand ( 1 ) catalyzes the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of polar double bonds with 2-propanol as the hydrogen source. Ketones (43 substrates) are reduced to alcohols in high yields (up to >99 %) and with excellent enantioselectivities (90–99 % ee). A stereochemical model based on attractive CH–π interactions is proposed.     

Cobalt(II)‐Catalyzed C?H Alkynylation/Annulation with Terminal Alkynes: Selective Access to 3‐Methyleneisoindolin‐1‐one

A highly efficient cobalt(II)‐catalyzed alkynylation/annulation of terminal alkynes assisted by an N,O‐bidentate directing group is described. This protocol is characterized by wide substrate scope utilizing cheap cobalt catalysts, and offers a new approach to 3‐methyleneisoindolin‐1‐one, which can be converted into an oxadiazine salt in one step. Moreover, the directing group could be removed in three steps.     

Catalytic Asymmetric Epoxidation of Aldehydes with Two VANOL‐Derived Chiral Borate Catalysts

A highly diastereo‐ and enantioselective method for the epoxidation of aldehydes with α‐diazoacetamides has been developed with two different borate ester catalysts of VANOL. Both catalytic systems are general for aromatic, aliphatic, and acetylenic aldehydes, giving high yields and inductions for nearly all cases. One borate ester catalyst has two molecules of VANOL and the other only one VANOL. Catalysts generated from BINOL and VAPOL are ineffective catalysts. An application is shown for access to the side‐chain of taxol.
