A short and efficient synthesis of (+)-disparlure and its enantiomer

A short and highly efficient approach was applied for the total synthesis of the gypsy moth sex pheromone (+)-disparlure and its enantiomer from isopropylidene D- and L-erythrose, using a common strategy.

Enantioselective synthesis of preclavulone A and its methyl ester

A highly enantioselective synthesis of the (8S,12S)-enantiomer of preclavulone A and its methyl ester is described featuring the Julia protocol for installing the (Z)-double bond in the lower chain. This procedure is suitable for the preparation of labeled preclavulone analogues for biosynthetic studies on marine clavulones.     

Julia sets of permutable Holomorphic maps

Let f and g be two permutable transcendental holomorphic maps in the plane. We shall discuss the dynamical properties of f, g and f o g and prove, among other things, that if either f has no wandering domains or f is of bounded type, then the Julia sets of f and f(g) coincide. Dedicated to Professor Sheng GONG on the occasion of his 75th birthday     

Duality in parameter space and approximation of measures for mixing repellers

For one-dimensional expanding mapsT with an invariant measure we consider, in a parameter space, the envelope _n of the real lines associated to any couple of points of the orbit, connected byn iterations ofT. If the map hass inverses and is piecewise linear, then the sets _n are just the union ofs ⁿ points and converge to the invariant Cantor set ofT. A correspondence between all the sets and their measures is established and allows one to associate the atomic measure on ₁ to the completly continuous measure on the Cantor set. If the map is nonlinear, hyperbolic, and hass inverses, the sets _n are homeomorphic to the Cantor set; they converge to the Cantor set ofT and their measures converge to the measure of the Cantor set whenn. The correspondence between the sets _n allows one to define converging approximation schemes for the map an its measure: one replaces each of thes ⁿ disjoint sets with a point in a convenient neighborhood and a probability equal to its measure and transforms it back to the original set ₁. All the approximations with linear Cantor systems previously proposed are recovered, the converging proprties being straightforward in the present scheme. Moreover, extensions to higher dimensionality and to nondisconnected repellers arte possible and are briefly examined.     

Heck reactions of stilbenoid chromophores with alkoxysilyl-substituted styrenes: Synthesis of monomers for luminescent polymers

Luminescent stilbenoid chromophores with diethoxysilane end groups are prepared via Heck reactions. Diethoxysilane-substituted styrenes are used as vinylic components, thus allowing the combined connection of the chromophore to the silane moiety with an extension of the π-system. Monodisperse oligo(phenylenevinylene)s of different conjugation lengths and bromine or iodine as reactive sites are used as coupling partners. Electrical and optical properties are tuned via the length of the conjugated system, electron withdrawing cyanide and electron donating alkoxy side chains, the latter guarantee high solubility of the final compounds.Dedicated to Prof. Dr. H. Total synthesis of d-(+)-biotin

A total synthesis of d-(+)-biotin is described starting from d-(+)-glucosamine using acyliminium chemistry.     

Ruthenium(II)-salen complexes-catalyzed olefination of aldehydes with ethyl diazoacetate

Several salen-ruthenium(II) complexes, which are derived from commercial ligands or simply ethylenediamine, can be successfully applied as catalysts for the olefination of a broad variety of aldehydes. Depending on the electron richness of the applied aldehydes, good to very good olefin yields and high E:Z selectivities are reached at 60 or 80 °C reaction temperature with ethyl diazo acetate being the reaction partner. The reaction rate depends on the electron donor capabilities of the aldehydes. Electron poor aldehydes undergo faster reactions than electron rich aldehydes, but both electron rich and bulky aldehydes can be transformed to corresponding olefins in very good yields and high E-selectivity.     

Stereochemistry of ketone olefination with methyl trimethylsilylacetate

High (Z)-stereoselectivity of olefination of methyl α-phenylthioalkyl and methyl α-phenylthioalkenyl ketones with methyl trimethylsilylacetate decreases in the case of ketones containing a higher alkyl-substituent in place of the methyl group. A concise route to the right wing of ciguatoxin

A concise route to the HIJKLM-ring fragment 10 of ciguatoxin (CTX) and 51-hydroxyCTX3C was developed in which oxiranyl anion addition and intramolecular carbonyl olefination were utilized as key transformations. The present procedure requires only 23 steps from the I-ring 5, while 35 steps were employed in a previous synthesis of the corresponding right wing 11 of CTX3C. The high efficiency of the present synthesis ensures a supply of 10 for total synthesis and biomedical applications.
