Reactions of Hydroxyazolidines with π-Donor Heterocycles. 3. Reaction of 1-Acetyl-5-hydroxypyrazolidines with Oxindoles

The reaction of oxindoles with 5-hydroxypyrazolidines on the surface of potassium fluoride-modified alumina leads to 3-(5-pyrazolidinyl)oxindoles. The structure of these products was studied.     

Copper-Catalyzed Trifunctionalization of Alkynes: Rapid Formation of Oxindoles Bearing Geminal Diboronates

A copper-catalyzed trifunctionalization of alkynes that provides rapid access to oxindoles bearing a geminal diboronate side chain, highlighted by the simultaneous formation of one C−C bond and two C−B bonds, is reported. This new reaction features simple reaction conditions (ligand-free catalysis), a general substrate scope, and excellent chemoselectivity. Mechanistic study revealed a reaction sequence constituted by, in the order, borylation, intramolecular cross-coupling, hydroboration, which has been rarely documented.     

Organocatalytic double arylation of 3-isothiocyanato oxindoles: Stereocontrolled synthesis of complex spirooxindoles

Quinones, precursors of aromatic structures, were firstly employed as the electrophiles for the organocatalytic Michael addition/cyclization cascade reaction with versatile 3-isothiocyanato oxindoles. Chiral bifunctional organocatalyst was appropriate for this enantioselective transformation to afford a variety of novel spirooxindoles, possessing a spirocyclic stereocenter adjacent to the aromatic ring, via asymmetric double arylation. These synthesized spirooxindoles are very difficult to access by the reported methods and were obtained in excellent chemical yields with excellent enantioselectivities.     

A Compact Approach to an Isomeric Iheyamine A System and X-ray Crystal Structure of 5-Methyl-5H-azepino[2,3- b :4,5- b ′]diindole

A compact three-step synthesis of a new fused bisindole system isomeric with the heterocyclic skeleton present in the marine natural product iheyamine A has been achieved. The structure of the synthetic product was confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray structure.     

Highly Stereoselective Conjugate Addition and α‐Alkynylation Reaction with Electron‐Deficient Alkynes Catalyzed by Chiral Scandium(III) Complexes

The highly Z‐selective asymmetric conjugate addition of 3‐substituted oxindoles to alkynyl carbonyl compounds has been developed by using scandium complexes of chiral N,N′‐dioxides under mild conditions. The thermodynamically unstable Z‐olefin derivatives were obtained in excellent yields and high enantiomeric and geometric control. The catalyst was also found to be effective in the asymmetric acetylenic substitution reaction of 3‐substituted oxindoles, giving excellent enantioselectivities.     

Isocyanide‐Based Multicomponent Reactions: Concise Synthesis of Spirocyclic Oxindoles with Molecular Complexity by Using a [1,5]‐Hydrogen Shift as the Key Step

A concise multicomponent reaction of isocyanide, α‐substituted allenoate, and methyleneindolinone has been disclosed. This protocol provides a fast and straightforward approach to synthesize unusual tricyclic oxindoles in an efficient and atom‐economic manner. Mechanistically, the present cycloaddition may proceed through a cascade sequence involving double Michael addition, double cyclization, double [1,5]‐hydrogen shift, and group migration. The introduction of a special alkyl group to the allenoate is believed to play a key role in the cascade reaction. This method also features a broad substrate scope, which is particularly useful for the delivery of a large number of compounds.     

A Direct CH/ArH Coupling Approach to Oxindoles,Thio‐oxindoles, 3,4‐Dihydro‐1 H‐quinolin‐2‐ones,and 1,2,3,4‐Tetrahydroquinolines

A copper(II)‐catalysed approach to oxindoles, thio‐oxindoles, 3,4‐dihydro‐1H‐quinolin‐2‐ones, and 1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroquinolines via formal C?H, Ar?H coupling is described. In a new variant, copper(II) 2‐ethylhexanoate has been identified as an inexpensive and efficient catalyst for this transformation, which utilises atmospheric oxygen as the re‐oxidant.
