Synthesis of 3-hydroxyindolin-2-one alkaloids, (±)-donaxaridine and (±)-convolutamydines A and E, through enolization-Claisen rearrangement of 2-allyloxyindolin-3-ones

Claisen rearrangement triggered by enolization of 2-allyloxyindolin-3-ones with DBU was performed in order to prepare 3-allyl-3-hydroxyindolin-2-ones. Total synthesis of 3-hydroxyindolin-2-one alkaloids, (±)-donaxaridine, as well as (±)-convolutamydines A and E, was achieved by transformation of the allyl moiety of 3-allyl-3-hydroxyindolin-2-ones.

Facile S-alkyl thiocarbamate synthesis by a novel DBU-assisted carbonylation of amines with carbon monoxide and sulfur

A novel DBU-assisted carbonylation of amines with carbon monoxide and sulfur has been developed for the synthesis of S-alkyl thiocarbamates. In the presence of DBU (1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene), S-alkyl thiocarbamates are synthesized in excellent yields from amines, carbon monoxide, sulfur, and alkyl halides under mild conditions (1 atm, 20°C). In the absence of DBU, however, no formation of S-alkyl thiocarbamate is observed. The present DBU-assisted carbonylation can also be applied to new synthetic methods for benthiocarb and orthobencarb (herbicides) and carbamoyl chlorides.     

DBU-assisted 1,3,2-oxathiaphospholane ring-opening condensation with selected O-, S-, N- and C-nucleophiles

The reactivity of protected thymidine 3′-O- and 5′-O-(2-thio-1,3,2-oxathiaphospholanes) towards various nucleophiles in the presence of DBU is presented and mechanistic implications are discussed.     

A Mild Isomerization Reaction for β,γ‐Unsaturated Ketone to α,β‐Unsaturated Ketone

A series of β,γ‐unsaturated ketones were isomerized to their corresponding α,β‐unsaturated ketones by the introduction of DABCO in iPrOH at room temperature. The endo‐cyclic double bond (β,γ‐position) on ketone was rearranged to exo‐cyclic double bond (α,β‐position) under the reaction conditions.     

Silica Gel Supported Chromium Trioxide: An Efficient Reagent for Oxidative Cleavage of Oximes to Carbonyl Compounds under Mild Condition

A facile, efficient oxidative deblocking of aldoximes and ketoximes to their corresponding aldehydes and ketones have been achieved by using silica gel supported chromium trioxide.     

Simple and Highly Efficient Procedure for Conversion of Aldoximes to Nitriles Using N-(p-Toluenesulfonyl) Imidazole

A facile and efficient method for dehydration of aldoximes into nitriles using N-(p-toluenesulfonyl) imidazole (TsIm) is described. In this method, aldoximes were refluxed with TsIm in the presence of 1,8-diazabicyclo-[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) in dimethylformamide (DMF) to afford the corresponding nitriles in good yields. This methodology is highly efficient for various structurally diverse aldoximes including aromatic, heteroaromatic, and aliphatic oximes. A plausible mechanism for the conversion of aldoxime into nitriles using TsIm/DBU is explained.     

Atom-Economic Route to Densely Functionalized Thiophenes via Base-Catalyzed Rearrangement of 5-Propargyl-2H-thiopyran-4(3H)-ones

An atom-economic route to densely functionalized thiophenes has been developed via base-catalyzed rearrangement of 5-propargyl-2H-thiopyran-4(3H)-ones involving tandem retro-thio Michael addition, propargyl isomerization, and intramolecular thio-addition to allenes.     

Synthesis of Metal‐Free Phthalocyanines in Functionalized Ammonium Ionic Liquids

A convenient, fast, efficient, and ecofriendly synthesis of metal‐free phthalocyanines from various substituted phthalonitriles in different hydroxyalkylammonium ionic liquids in the presence of 1,8‐diazabicyclo‐[5,4,0]‐undec‐7‐ene (DBU) is reported in moderate yields. The effect of concentration of DBU and temperature on the synthesis of phthalocyanine in N‐(2‐hydroxyethyl)‐N,N‐dimethylbutylammonium bromide ionic liquid has been examined, and the ionic liquid has been recovered and reused conveniently.
