Persistent Solid‐State Phosphorescence and Delayed Fluorescence at Room Temperature by a Twisted Hydrocarbon

The dehydrating cyclotrimerization of 1‐tetralone in the presence of titanium tetrachloride at high temperatures leads to homotruxene, a nonplanar arene in which the twist angles between its three outer benzene rings and the central benzene are stabilized by ethylene bridges. This non‐planar configuration allows for pronounced spin–orbit coupling and a high triplet energy, leading to room‐temperature phosphorescence in air with a lifetime of 0.38 s and a quantum yield of 5.6 %, clearly visible to the human eye after switching off the excitation. Triplet–triplet annihilation is found to simultaneously lead to a substantial delayed fluorescence, unprecedented from a pure hydrocarbon at ambient conditions, with a lifetime of 0.11 s.     

Synthesis and Reactivity of an Early‐Transition‐Metal Alkynyl Cubane Mn4C4 Cluster

While the coordination chemistry of monometallic complexes and the surface properties of extended metal particles are well understood, the control of metal nanocluster formation has remained challenging. The isolation of discrete metal clusters provides an especially rare snapshot at the nanoscale of cluster growth. The synthesis and full characterization of the first early‐transition‐metal alkynyl cubane and the first μ³‐alkynyl Mn₃ motif are reported.     

Selective Metal‐free HB(C6F5)2 Catalyzed Allene Cyclotrimerization: Formation of 1,3,5‐Trimethylenecyclohexane and Its Tris‐hydroboration Product

Allene is cyclotrimerized under metal‐free conditions with the borane HB(C₆F₅)₂ catalyst to selectively give 1,3,5‐trimethylenecyclohexane ( 3 a ). Three‐fold hydroboration of the 1,3,5‐cyclotrimer with Piers’ borane gives the all‐cis 1,3,5‐CH₂B(C₆F₅)₂ substituted cyclohexane product 14 .
