Crystal Structure of L-Quebrachitol

L-Quebrachitol (1) isolated from the root of Elaeagnus formosana Nakai (Elaeagnaceae) has not been reported before for any species of the genus of Elaeasnus. Its structure was established from spectral data and was completely characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. L-Quebrachitol crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2₁, with cell parameters are a = 6.702(4), b = 7.207(4), c = 8.758(5) Å, β = 90.24(5)° and Z = 2.     

A study of structural, compositional and optical properties of spray-deposited non-stoichiometric (Zn,Fe)S thin films

Non-stoichiometric ternary chalcogenides (Zn,Fe)S were prepared in the film form by pyrolytic spray deposition technique, using air/nitrogen as the carrier gas. The precursor solution comprised of ZnCl₂, FeCl₂ and thiourea. The depositions were carried out under optimum conditions of experimental parameters viz. carrier gas (air/nitrogen) flow rate, concentration of precursor constituents, nozzle substrate distance and temperature of quartz substrate. The deposited thin films were later sintered in argon at 1073 K for 120 min.The structural, compositional and optical properties of the sintered thin films were studied. X-ray diffraction studies of the thin films indicated the presence of (Zn,Fe)S solid solution with prominent cubic sphalerite phase while surface morphology as determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed a granular structure.The chemical composition of the resulting thin films as analyzed by energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) reflected the composition of the precursor solutions from which the depositions were carried out with Fe at% values ranging from 0.4 up to 33.SEM micrographs of thin films reveal that the grain sizes of the thin films prepared using air as carrier gas and N₂ as carrier gas are in the vicinity of 300 and 150 nm, respectively.The diffuse transmittance measurements for thin films, as a function of wavelength reveal the dependence of direct optical band gap on Fe content and type of phase.     

Study of thermal currents in powder β-spodumene ceramics doped with Cuo, FeO and TiO2

Ternary-phase ceramic system of Li₂O Al₂O₃ 4SiO₂ doped with CuO, FeO and TiO₂ has been prepared and subjected to dc electrical conductivity and thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) measurements as a function of temperature (30-250 °C) and field strength. The electrical conductivity results are explained by assuming both ionic and electronic conduction mechanisms coexist with different contributions over the whole temperature range of experiments. TSDC spectra have been found to be characterized by a broad intense relaxation peak, which can be attributed to an ionic charge polarization. The broad relaxation transitions are apparently a result of the nonuniform nature of this process. Activation energies are calculated for both dc electrical conductivity and TSDC according to Arrhenius equation and initial rise method, respectively.     

Synthesis and characterization of new bis(1-aryliminomethylenylnaphthalen-2-oxy)nickel complexes and their catalytic behavior for vinyl polymerization of norbornene

The synthesized 1-aryliminomethylenylnaphthalen-2-ol derivatives reacted with nickel chloride to form bis(1-aryliminomethylenylnaphthalen-2-oxy)nickel complexes. All resultant compounds were structurally characterized by elemental analyses, IR and H NMR, and the structures of the formed complexes were elucidated by X-ray crystal structure analysis. The complexes show high catalytic activities for the vinyl polymerization of norbornene in the presence of methylaluminoxane. The catalytic activity variations have been followed by gas chromatography through monitoring the conversion of norbornene.     

The structure of CeAlO3 by Rietveld refinement of X-ray powder diffraction data

The room temperature structure of perovskite CeAlO₃ has been reinvestigated by X-ray powder diffraction. The Rietveld refinement has confirmed the tetragonal symmetry; but revealed a super cell, a=5.32489(6) Å and c=7.58976(10) Å, with the space group I4/mcm. In CeAlO₃, the distortion from the ideal cubic perovskite is caused by the cooperative tilting of the AlO₆ octahedra around the primitive cubic [001]_p-axis.     

Synthesis and Crystal Structure of the Hydrogen Polyphosphide Bis(Tetraphenylphosphonium) hydrogenheptaphosphide‐ammonia(1/3) (PPh4)2HP7 · 3NH3

(PPh₄)₂HP₇ · 3NH₃ was prepared by the reaction of K₃P₇ with a proton‐charged ion exchange resin in the presence of (PPh₄)Br in liquid ammonia, and characterized by low temperature X‐ray structure analysis. The thermally very unstable compound contains the hydrogenheptaphosphide anion HPequation/tex2gif-stack-1.gif, the nortricyclane‐like cage of which is slightly distorted by the attachment of the hydrogen atom.     

Syntheses, Characterization and Crystal Structures of Two-dimensional 4,4''-Bipyridyl Lead Halides,PbI2 (4,4'' -bpy) and PbBr2 (4,4'' -bpy)

Two-dimensional 4,4-bipyridyllead halides, PbI2 (4,4'-bpy) (1) and PbBr2 (4,4'-bpy) (2), were synthesized. The structures were determined by means of X-ray single crystal diffraction.The structure shows a distorted octahedral configuration with six-coordinated central lead atoms. In crystals 1 and 2, the molecules are packed in a two-dimensional network structure through bridging halide atoms and 4,4'-bipyridine ligands between the adjacent lead atoms.     

The Lascoux, Leclerc and Thibon algorithm and Soergel's tilting algorithm

We generalize Soergel's tilting algorithm to singular weights and deduce from this the validity of the Lascoux-Leclerc-Thibon conjecture on the connection between the canonical basis of the basic submodule of the Fock module and the representation theory of the Hecke-algebras at root of unity. Optical and electric properties of Nb-doped anatase TiO2 single crystal

Nb-doped anatase TiO₂ single crystal has been grown by chemical vapour transport method. Raman spectra shows that the obtained crystal with Nb of 0.08 wt% has typical anatase structure. An absorption band was observed at around 2.2 eV, which seems to be due to the d-d transition in the conduction band. The electron paramagnetic resonance and electric resistivity measurements show that the doped niobium makes quite shallow donor level whose orbital is d_xy-like centered at the titanium position of anatase.     

Charge density study under high pressure

The experimental and analytical method of the high-pressure powder experiment at BL10XU, SPring-8, is described. There is no doubt that BL10XU must be one of the most appropriate beam lines for high pressure X-ray diffraction experiment taking advantage of third generation synchrotron source. As an example of the advanced charge density study under high pressure, the structural change of Cs₂Au₂Br₆ by applying pressure is studied by Rietveld/MEM analysis. It reveals that the structural change of Cs₂Au₂Br₆ by applying pressure occurs basically at electron level, such as valence state change and chemical bonding, which may be called the electronic phase transition.
