On the Existence Of Consistent Price Systems

We formulate a sufficient condition for the existence of a consistent price system (CPS), which is weaker than the conditional full support condition (CFS). We use the new condition to show the existence of CPSs for certain processes that fail to have the CFS property. In particular this condition gives sufficient conditions, under which a continuous function of a process with CFS admits a CPS, while the CFS property might be lost.     

Quantum histories without contrary inferences

In the consistent histories formulation of quantum theory it was shown that it is possible to retrodict contrary properties. We show that this problem do not appear in our formalism of generalized contexts for quantum histories.

Self consistent modified extended Hückel (SC-MEH) calculations on heavy metal systems. I. Platinum(II) tetragonal planar complexes with and without relativistic effects

The Self Consistent Modified Extended Hückel molecular orbital method had been applied to several square planar complexes of platinum (II). Calculations including both the limited 5d, 6s, 6p and extended 5s, 5p, 5d, 6s, 6p starting bases for platinum were made. It is shown that in PtCl ₄ ^2– both the nuclear quadrupole moment and minimum total energy vs. bond distance are calculated to be in good agreement with experiment, only with the extended platinum AO basis.Specific inclusion of relativistic parameters via a pseudo-relativistic approximation are shown to have a significant effect on the energy molecular energy levels, however no meaningful rationalization can be made without the simultaneous inclusion of ligand field parameters as well.Supported in part by a grant made available through the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans. A method for estimating criteria weights from intuitionistic preference relations

An intuitionistic preference relation is a powerful means to express decision makers’information of intuitionistic preference over criteria in the process of multi-criteria decision making. In this paper, we first define the concept of its consistence and give the equivalent interval fuzzy preference relation of it. Then we develop a method for estimating criteria weights from it, and then extend the method to accommodate group decision making based on them And finally, we use some numerical examples to illustrate the feasibility and validity of the developed method.     

Nonparametric inference on the difference of location parameters of correlated variables from fragmentary samples

Summary In this paper, two types of robust estimators and approximate confidence intervals for the difference of location parameters of correlated random variables are proposed and investigated when some observations are missing. It is shown that the suggested estimators are consistent and asymptotically normally distributed. In addition, the proposed approximate confidence intervals are also shown to enjoy some nice asymptotic properties.     

Extending the applicability of Secant methods and nondiscrete induction

We use nondiscrete mathematical induction to extend the applicability of the Secant methods for solving equations in a Banach setting. Our approach has the following advantages over earlier works under the same information: weaker sufficient convergence conditions; tighter error bounds on the distances involved and more information on the location of the solution. Numerical examples where our results apply but earlier ones fail to solve nonlinear equation as well as tighter error bounds are also provided in this study.

Modeling and simulation of the coupled mechanical-electrical response of soft solids

Dielectric elastomer (DE) is one type of electro-active polymers (EAP) that responds to electrical stimulation with a significant shape and size change. As EAPs, dielectric elastomers are lightweight, inexpensive, pliable and can be fabricated into various shapes, all of which are attractive properties to justify the intense research in the field. This paper presents a nonlinear, electrical and mechanical coupled, large deformation finite element formulation for DEAs. Maxwell’s equations for the electroquasistatic fields were solved simultaneously with equation of linear momentum. The hyperelastic Ogden model and total Maxwell stress method were combined to describe the material. The formulation was based on the weak forms of Maxwell’s equation and linear momentum expressed in the reference configuration. The closed form consistent tangent moduli for dielectric elastomers were derived. The results of the simulation compared with the experiments have demonstrated the validity of the method from the computational aspect.
