Optical reflection properties for the interface associated with Chern insulator and chiral metamaterial

Based on the topological nature of Chern insulator and magnetoelectric coupling of chiral metamaterial, we investigate the electrodynamics for the interface associated with the two media. The Fresnel coefficients of the interface between Chern insulator and chiral metamaterial, as well as the corresponding polarization rotation angles, are derived. The reflection characteristics of the linearly polarized incident wave at the interface, such as complete polarization conversion and change of polarization state, are discussed. Under the combined influence of Chern insulator and chiral metamaterial, the partial polarization conversion may be enhanced to the complete polarization conversion, and the chiral metamaterial may compensate for the suppression effect of longitudinal conductivity of Chern insulator on the polarization conversion.     

Remote stereocontrol by the sulfinyl group: Mukaiyama aldol reactions of (S)-2-[2-(p-tolylsulfinyl)phenyl]acetaldehyde in the asymmetric synthesis of β-hydroxyacids and 1,3-diols

(S)-2-[2-(p-Tolylsulfinyl)phenyl]acetaldehyde reacts with different O-silylated ketenethioacetals in the presence of Yb(OTf)₃ yielding β-hydroxythioesters in high yields and diastereoselectivities. The obtained compounds were readily transformed into β-hydroxyacids and their corresponding diols. These Mukaiyama aldol reactions are a direct evidence of the ability of the sulfinyl group to control 1,5- and 1,6-asymmetric induction processes.     

Capillary Electrophoresis Chiral Separation for Enantiomeric Purity Determination of a Basic Drug in Pharmaceutical Formulations

Capillary electrophoresis using a running buffer composed of β-cyclodextrin as the chiral selector and ethanolamine mesylate at pH 9.6 is being used to monitor the stereochemical stability of a hydrophobic drug, containing two chiral centers, in two different formulated self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) products. The separation takes place in less than 25 min. Strategies for enhancing the method reproducibility and detection sensitivity in the lower potency formulation are presented. Fine Dry Grinding of Zeolite in a Laboratory Ball Mill

This paper presents the importance and usage of natural zeolites, which was recently recognized in the industry. Therefore, the grinding properties of natural zeolite were studied with the emphasis on a kinetic study in a ball mill. The experimental mill employed was laboratory sized, 200 mm diameter, 191 mm length, providing a total mill volume of 6000 cm³, with a total mass of 5.62 kg of steel balls of 25 mm diameter with a charge of 20% of the mill volume and with a rotation speed of 76 rpm. The breakage parameters were determined by using single sized feed fractions of ?850+600 μm, ?600+425 μm, and ?425+300 μm for the zeolite samples. The S_i (specific rate of breakage) and B_{i, j} (primary breakage distribution) values were obtained for those feed size fractions in order to predict the product size distributions by simulation for comparison to the experimental data. From the experimental results, S_i values increased as the feed sizes became coarser, i.e., the highest S_i value was 0.85 min^?1 for ?850+600 μm, while the lowest S_i value was 0.65 min^?1 for ?425+300 μm feed ground in the mill. The B_{i, j} values obtained for the zeolite sample were γ=0.84, ?=0.61, and β=4.25. The breakage parameters obtained showed that the zeolite is broken faster than quartz and slower than calcite and barite in terms of the a_T values reported previously at the same experimental conditions. The simulations of the product size distributions of zeolite were in good agreement with the experimental data using a standard ball mill simulation program. The slowing‐down effect was also seen in the mill after 4 min. of grinding.     

Preparation of novel analgesics via diastereoselective nucleophilic addition to 1-dimethylamino-2-methylpentan-3-one

The diastereoselective synthesis of naphthyl amino alcohols via nucleophilic addition to racemic 1-dimethylamino-2-methylpentan-3-one was studied. The use of the appropriate experimental conditions allowed the synthesis of both diastereoisomers. The relative configurations were established via NOESY experiments.     

A novel design of a levoglucosenone derived chiral auxiliary

A two-step general approach to a new chiral auxiliary starting from levoglucosenone is reported. The compound is obtained by a [4+2] cycloaddition reaction with anthracene followed by a diastereoselective reduction of the C-2 keto function in high overall yield. The auxiliary has been used as chiral template in an asymmetric Diels-Alder reaction of the corresponding acrylic ester derivative with cyclopentadiene and shown to be efficient for asymmetric induction.     

Synthesis of bioactive indolocarbazoles: synthesis, nucleophilic ring-opening and chiral base desymmetrisation of a cyclic sulfate intermediate

A number of new functionalised bridged indolocarbazole systems have been prepared by ring-opening reactions of a key cyclic sulfate intermediate, prepared from the corresponding diol by the action of sulfuryl diimidazole and DBU. The same cyclic sulfate also undergoes an unprecedented asymmetric rearrangement to a chiral ketone, on treatment with a chiral lithium amide base.     

Fabrication of Zeolite A Rods with Irregular Macropores by Self-assembly of Zeolite A Microcrystals Using Microwave-assisted Hydrothermal Synthesis

Zeolite A rods by self-assembly of zeolite A microcrystal were successfully synthesized by microwave-assisted hydrotherrnal synthesis. The average size of zeolite crystals consisting of self-assembling materials was about 300 nm and the length of zeolite rods was in the range of 15--30μm.
