Microanalytical method development for Fe, Cu and Zn determination in colorectal cancer cells

Microanalytical methods suitable for the determination of Fe, Cu in HT-29 (human colon adenocarcinoma) cells treated with different iron compounds (Fe(II) sulfate, Fe(III) chloride, Fe(III) citrate and Fe(III) transferrin) and cultured in medium supplemented or not with 10% (v/v) fetal calf serum (FCS) by total reflection X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (TXRF) and simultaneous graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS) were developed. The developed TXRF method was also suitable for Zn determination in the samples. The main advantage of the proposed methods is the execution of all sample preparation steps following incubation and prior to the elemental analysis in the same Eppendorf tubes. Sample preparation was performed at microscale (115 μL sample volume) with 65% nitric acid and 30% hydrogen peroxide. According to scanning electron microscopic measurements, the organic matrix of the cell samples could be eliminated to the extent that accurate results were obtained for Cu and Fe by analyzing the same samples by TXRF and GF-AAS. Concerning the iron uptake, HT-29 cells incubated in FCS-free medium contained Fe in cca. 5-50 times higher amounts compared to cells cultured in FCS supplemented medium. Pronounced differences in the iron uptake compared to the iron supply (inorganic vs. organic chelated as well as iron(II) vs. iron(III)) were observed in the case of cell lines incubated in FCS-free medium.     

Infrared dispersion studies: Part 12: infrared dispersion of dichloro-, dibromo- and diiodomethane and their deuterated analogues

Absorption spectra and dispersion curves have been obtained for dichloro-, dibromo- and diiodomethane in the liquid phase between 500 and 20 cm^?1 using interferometric and Fourier spectroscopic techniques. The refractive index data extend existing information on these molecules to include all infrared active fundamental modes. Dispersion curves have also been obtained for deuterated dichloro- and dibromomethane, in the liquid phase, between 5000 and 450 cm^?1.The refractive indices have been used to calculate absolute band intensities, dipole moment derivatives and vibrational polarizations.     

Sulfur heterocycles. I. Use of 4,4-dimethyl-1,3-oxathiolane-3,3-dioxide as a carbonyl anion equivalent

The title heterocycle is used as a carbonyl anion equivalent in the preparation of aldehydes and α-silyl ketones; the key step is the thermal demasking of the heterocycle by loss of isobutylene and sulfur dioxide.     

Photoelectron asymmetries and two-electron satellites near the 3p → 3d giant-resonance region in atomic Mn

The partial cross-sections and photoelectron angular distributions for several lines in atomic Mn have been measured at photon energies between 50 and 72eV. The intensities of the 3d correlation satellites at 24–26 eV binding energy behave similarly to the mainline intensity near the 3p → 3d giant resonance, but show an enhancement near the 3p threshold which is not present for the main line. A configuration-interaction analysis is applied to help identify the origins of the satellites. The 3p/3d branching ratio from 55–72eV and the shape of the 3d cross section in the resonance region are in good agreement with many-body perturbation-theory calculations.     

Curvature identities derived from the integral formula for the first Pontrjagin number

We give an integral formula for the first Pontrjagin number of a compact almost Hermitian surface and derive curvature identities from the integral formula based on the fundamental fact that the first Pontrjagin number in the deRham cohomology group is a topological invariant. Further, we provide some applications of the identities.     

p-Hub approach for the optimal park-and-ride facility location problem

Park and Ride facilities (P&R) are car parks at which users can transfer to public transportation to reach their final destination. We propose a mixed linear programming formulation to determine the location of a fixed number of P&R facilities so that their usage is maximized. The facilities are modeled as hubs. Commuters can use one of the P&R facilities or choose to travel by car to their destinations, and their behavior follows a logit model. We apply a p-hub approach considering that users incur in a known generalized cost of using each P&R facility as input for the logit model. For small instances of the problem, we propose a novel linearization of the logit model, which allows transforming the binary nonlinear programming problem into a mixed linear programming formulation. A modification of the Heuristic Concentration Integer (HCI) procedure is applied to solve larger instances of the problem. Numerical experiments are performed, including a case in Queens, NY. Further research is proposed.     

基于Enter-PLSR的高光谱晋华宫矿南山煤矸石山景区土壤有效氮估测

土壤有效氮是反应土壤肥力的一个重要指标。高光谱技术对土壤有效氮进行监测和评价可以为土地复垦和生态修复提供指导性的动态信息。针对国家矿山公园高光谱有效氮监测研究的空白和偏最小二乘回归(PLSR)计算效率问题,利用ASD FieldSpec 3光谱仪采集了晋华宫矿南山煤矸石山景区(晋华宫矿国家矿山公园组成部分),30个碱化栗钙土土样350～2 500 nm波段的光谱曲线,研究了土壤光谱与土壤有效氮含量之间的关系。对土壤反射率光谱进行一阶微分和倒数的对数变换,然后在提取特征吸收波段的基础上,分别进行PLSR和进入法-偏最小二乘回归(Enter-PLSR)建立估算模型并检验。结果表明Enter-PLSR估算模型在保证与PLSR估算模型相近准确度的情况下,自变量从122个降低到12个,大大提高了计算效率,在填补国家矿山公园高光谱有效氮监测研究空白的同时弥补了PLSR方法计算效率的不足。

We set out a rigorous presentation of Park?s classes of admissible multifunctions and we obtain a fixed point theorem for better admissible multifunctions defined on a proximity space via the Samuel-Smirnov compactification.     

The temperature dependence of the HO2 + HO2 reaction

The temperature dependence of the rate constant for the reaction HO₂ + HO₂ → H₂O₂ + O₂ (2k₁) has been determined using flash photolysis techniques, over the temperature range 298–510 K, in a nitrogen diluent at a total pressure of 700 Torr. The overall second order state constant is given by k₁ = (4.14 ± 1.15) × 10^?13 exp[(630 ± 115)/T] cm³ molecule^?1 s^?1, where the quoted errors refer to one standard deviation. This result is compared with previous findings and the negative activation energy is shown to be consistent with the observation that the rate constant is pressure dependent at 700 Torr.
