Magnetic field effect on indole exciplexes: an anomalous dielectric dependence

Individual exciplex formation between various aromatic hydrocarbons, anthracene, pyrene, all-s-trans-1,4-diphenylbuta-1,3-diene and a heteroaromatic amine, 1,2-dimethylindole, was investigated by steady-state fluorescence and magnetic field effect (MFE). A comparative study was carried out with two other exciplex systems 9-cyanophenanthrene-1,2-dimethylindole and 9-cyanophenanthrene-N-methylindole. The extent of charge transfer and dielectric dependence of MFE reveals the potential role of specific interactions related to exciplex geometry.     

Synthesis of bioactive indolocarbazoles: synthesis, nucleophilic ring-opening and chiral base desymmetrisation of a cyclic sulfate intermediate

A number of new functionalised bridged indolocarbazole systems have been prepared by ring-opening reactions of a key cyclic sulfate intermediate, prepared from the corresponding diol by the action of sulfuryl diimidazole and DBU. The same cyclic sulfate also undergoes an unprecedented asymmetric rearrangement to a chiral ketone, on treatment with a chiral lithium amide base.     

New liquid‐crystalline poly(ester amide)s: The role of nitro groups in the phase behavior

New hydrogen‐bonded liquid‐crystalline poly(ester amide)s (PEA)s were obtained from 1,4‐terephthaloyl[bis‐(3‐nitro‐N‐anthranilic acid)] (5) or 1,4‐terephthaloyl[bis‐(N‐anthranilic acid)] (6), with or without nitro groups, respectively, through the separate condensation of each with hydroquinone or dihydroxynaphthalene. The dicarboxylic monomers were synthesized from 2‐aminobenzoic acid. The phase behavior of the monomers and polymers were studied with differential scanning calorimetry, polarized light microscopy, and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction methods. Monomer 5, containing nitro groups, exhibited a smectic liquid‐crystalline phase, whereas the texture of monomer 6 without nitro groups appeared to be nematic. The PEAs containing nitro groups exhibited polymorphism (smectic and nematic), whereas those without nitro groups exhibited only one phase transition (a nematic threaded texture). The chemisorption of pentacene on Si(0 0 1)-2 × 1

Adsorption structures of the pentacene (C₂₂H₁₄) molecule on the clean Si(0 0 1)-2 × 1 surface were investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) in conjunction with density functional theory calculations and STM image simulations. The pentacene molecules were found to adsorb on four major sites and four minor sites. The adsorption structures of the pentacene molecules at the four major sites were determined by comparison between the experimental and the simulated STM images. Three out of the four theoretically identified adsorption structures are different from the previously proposed adsorption structures. They involve six to eight Si-C covalent chemical bonds. The adsorption energies of the major four structures are calculated to be in the range 67-128 kcal/mol. It was also found that the pentacene molecule hardly hopped on the surface when applying pulse bias voltages on the molecule, but was mostly decomposed.     

The design of molecules containing planar tetracoordinate carbon

A novel preference for planar tetracoordination was observed over the conventional tetrahedral arrangement in a new series of C₅H₂, C₅H₄, C₅H₄^1+/2+ and related compounds. The stability of these molecules is assessed with the ring-opening barriers, HOMO-LUMO gap, singlet-triplet energy differences and nucleus independent chemical shift values.     

Opening of epoxides with aromatic amines promoted by indium tribromide: a mild and efficient method for the synthesis of β-amino alcohols

A mild and efficient synthesis of β-amino alcohols by aminolysis of epoxides promoted by indium tribromide is described. The methodology is regio- and chemoselective and works well with independence of the epoxide or the aromatic amine used. In addition, the reaction can be carried out in a wide variety of undried solvents under air.

发展了用液相色谱法检测地质样品中芳香化合物的方法。对观察到的色谱峰进行了定性分析，了该法对油气地球化学勘探的意义。     

2E－不饱和酰胺的立体选择合成法

以二（苯腈）－二氯化钯为催化剂，在固液相转移条件下，通过芳卤与Ｎ，Ｎ－二乙基丙烯酰胺发生偶联反应，生成了Ｅ式α，β－不饱和酰胺。碘代芳烃的偶联产率较高，从而建立了简便的２Ｅ－不饱和酰胺立体选择合成法。     

Synthesis and characterization of new thermally stable copoly(ester–amide)s from diester–dicarboxylic acids

Three new aromatic diester–dicarboxylic acids containing furan rings, namely, benzofuro[2,3-b]benzofuran-2,9-dicarboxyl-bis-phenyl ester-4,4^′-dicarboxylic acid, benzofuro[2,3-b]benzofuran-2,9-dicarboxyl-bis-phenyl ester-3,3^′-dicarboxylic acid and benzofuro[2,3-b]benzofuran-2,9-dicarboxyl-bis-naphthyl ester-2,2^′-dicarboxylic acid were synthesized by the reaction of benzofuro[2,3-b]benzofuran-2,9-dicarbonyl chloride with 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, 3-hydroxybenzoic acid and 3-hydroxy-naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid, respectively. Diester–dicarboxylic acids were characterized by FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. Then, these monomers were converted to aromatic copoly(ester–amide)s by their reaction with various aromatic diamines via the direct polycondensation. These polymers were characterized by viscosity measurements, solubility tests, FT-IR, Ultraviolet and ¹H-NMR spectroscopy and thermogravimetry. The polymers with inherent viscosities in the range of 0.16–0.37 dl/g in dimethyl sulfoxide at 30 °C were obtained in high yield. Most of them dissolved readily at room temperature in polar solvents. The synthesized copoly(ester–amide)s possessed glass-transition temperatures from 210–255 °C. The copoly(ester–amide)s exhibited excellent thermal stabilities and had 10% weight loss at temperature above 295 °C under nitrogen atmosphere.
